love this song . i never got to see the runaways but saw Joan Jett in Miami and at Busch Gardens Tampa in 2011 what a show cant even imagine how awesome the runaways were in concert portlandgirlj
Jackie wrote it about Joey Ramone. She later said it was "a joke"?? It was then called "Joey". Clearly lines like "I sing lead, and so do you" were rewrites, almost certainly by Cherie.
Its my favourite (sic, I'm British) more melodic Runaways song.
Cherie is and will always be the lead vocalist of The Runaways. I love Joan too, but Cherie just had something that added to the bands overall sound. I hope one day the losers that select bands into the Rock N Roll HOF FINALLY let these talented girls in. They did create a revolution in music, and they changed the face of rock n roll forever.
@russellband It's about Bowie (Cherie's idol) actually. It was orginally written by Jackie and Lita about some other guy whose name I'm blanking on (I believe Jackie was supposed to sing the song too). But then their manager, Kim got ahold of it and reworked it with Cherie and Joan to be about Bowie-- leaving Jackie and Lita with little to no say in the matter.
I dunno if the way it was orginally would have been better or not, cuz no one really heard it, but the way it ended up is still awesome.
So beautiful, still rock and roll!

uhhh, is this song about Joan? lol it's probably not, but the second verse is pretty convincing... ;)
