  • Twas a greeat game back in the day. Everytime i got a checkpoint, i pretended i dropped a freind of. Sad i know, but great times and great memorys.

  • This game brings tears in my eyes, it is one of my first PC game. God, I've become old...:(

  • Sounds worse than on a Commodore 64 ;)

  • @soldier501 Over 20 years later, still Amiga fanboys can't let it lie..

  • @CrixMakin Probably because we have the better graphics, sound (by fucking miles!), and a real OS. cp/m-68k and gem, I mean fucking really now.

  • @richardmaudsley77 Erm No.

I have a PC with much better graphics, sound and OS.

An Atari (yes, Atari) Falcon with much better sound, graphics and OS.

Also I have an Atari ST which was pretty much as good as amiga really and saved a lot of money back then. I also seem to remember Amiga's being a LOT more unreliable.

  • @bobbystar101 The star that lives half as long burns twice as bright.

  • @TubeDestroyer2010 Blade Runner, right? :)

  • @soldier501 That battle's been fought and won for over 20 years. Let it lie.

  • This truely shows how inferior the Atari ST is compared to the Amiga.... Even a C64 can do this better....

  • any where can I download it back?

  • @ScaniaFung

Download what, the game or the intro music?

  • @zeusgb the game

  • @ScaniaFung

You can get it can get it on Pompey Pirates Disk 114. I've got the ROM if you want it, message me.

When was that, isn't in 94'?

  • @ScaniaFung You can convert this file into an mp3 using a youtube video converter.

  • @sockpim Why would you want to? Listen to this on Amiga. Ah, that's better.

  • @TubeDestroyer2010 So you can listen to it on an mp3 player or with decent bass.

  • @sockpim I mean why would you want to as it sounds ShiT.

  • @TubeDestroyer2010 You sound sHit ^^. This song is groovy.

  • I think it's a pretty good version, it's even reorchestrated a bit to fit the style

  • I've watched this and now I'm back to 1997. Thank you so much!

  • @SenninhaRubberburner 1997!?

The game came out around 91/92

    anyways great game.

  • great game first racegame or was the first one grand prix now idea they wher all great stunts, lotus, need for speed, grand prix, cyclmania, road rash, testrdrive i loved them all nice time in computer dos game history

  • so there WAS a third one?

  • Here's the real deal:

    jlYAohY7wYA

  • OH YYESSS!!! I used to LOVE this!!! :)

  • Gran Turismo fails compared to this game, Co-Op championships - what the hell happened to that?!

  • I still think the ST Version is better v.v you wont agree with me but hey, ST FTW !

  • There doesnt seem to be much graphical difference with the Amiga but the sound is awful! it almost sounds like an 8 bit console version!

  • Agreed. This is -a fucking travesty- of an amazing song.

  • The animation is a little bit jerky too.

  • Love this intro! check out "Shayning" remix for this version

  • I dont know why, but when I read Lotus 3, I think it was Lotus 1-2-3 ... then WTF?! Lotus 1-2-3 The Ultimate Challenge?! LOL!

And great game! First time I seen the Atari ST version. Awesome.

  • Does no one know theres a windows version of this on abandonia ?

  • I uploaded the intro to that version as well.

  • @zeusgb

PC sucked at that time for games, amiga pretty much ruled, cus it was the only machine with true 8bit sound. Check out /watch?v=4aIlvk1yK04 and skip to 6.12 and you have the truly epic version.

  • sounds like something similar to SID

  • omg need for speed -100 !!! i loved this game XD

  • The music is something....!!!! is an endless theme, very early Depeche Mode.

  • The music sounds like its NES or Sega Master System...

Sorry, never seen an Atari ST.

  • More geared towards SMS.

SMS - 3 Pulsewave (Square) channels and one Noise Channel.

NES - 2 Pulsewave (Square) channels, 1 Triangle channel, one Noise Channel, and 1 DPCM (Sample channel).

  • This music was epic back then, and it's epic now! Sometimes you have to go back to the past to find awesome game soundtracks =)

  • Yup. Unfortunately due to lazy coders many ATARI ST games used chip music so to make sure compatibility was maintained for the STFM. The STe on the other hand could compete on an equal level to an Amiga or an IBM PC of the time. Then we might have had MOD music or digitised stuff. Nevermind. Though the Amiga 1200 would floor an STFM or an STe I am greatful for the memories. Plus....I still play Lotus 3! lol.

  • Also the same coders could have taken advantage of the Ste Blitter chip to speed up the graphics, thus making it more like the Amiga and PC versions. Makes me quite angry to think how wasted the STe improvements were. I own THREE STe computers by the way ;-)

  • You are all right about the facts stated above, they could have made improved versions for the STe.

Still there is A LOT of design flaws and missing features( compared to the Amiga ) in the STe architecture.

BTW, i have an Atari 520 STe with 2MB of Ram, still used :)

  • bah, I have STFM but with 4MB ram and PC hardware emulator in it plus overscan (some 750x480pix onscreen in mono). still regret I don;t have beefed up STE machine. mine lacks blitter, this is visible at GEM graphics and some games.

  • deepblue69uk; the lack of STE support was because Atari screwed up with shortsighted marketing.

To compete effectively with the Amiga, it should have directly replaced the STFM *at the same price* when it first came out (mid to late '89?). My guess is that this was the original intention- it's the only one that makes sense.

Most people would have bought it as the "standard" ST, and there would have been enough of them to make it worth developers' effort. ( *1 )

  • (continued)

Instead, they continued selling the STFM at the same price, and charged extra for the STE.

So people on a budget bought the STFM, and those who had the extra money for the STE would have considered the Amiga instead.

Result was the STE never gained critical mass. By the time it *actually* replaced the STFM 18-24 months later, the ST market was in serious decline and it made little difference.

(*1) They did this, but only very briefly; perhaps due to STFM shortages?

  • This really brings back memories. MAN I feel so old :p

  • Sooooooooo many hours spent on this game!! I definetely loved the music, especially for the PC/SoundBlaster version!

  • I never have seen real Lotus car somewhere ... but played the game.

  • Two in Bialystok :PP

  • I have, even though it might be less than 20 in the whole country (Sweden)

    Nice cars !

  • Yes, I used to play this when I was a child too!

  • yeah, the music is cool and classic, but only for the first 2 minutes. Then it becomes really annoying. But still i loved to play this game!

  • man the music really suffered in this version

  • i think the lotus turbo was the one that made the best music, atari didnt really carry it on.

  • this looks like a DBUG or AUTOMATION copy, because it has coloured dashes through it, not that it matters now due to the copyright now abandoned for this game but that MIGHT be the reason for the sound problem.

  • I think this is called "chip-music" ;))

  • check out the megadrive version if you can find it, way superior quality

  • I played this on my pc when I was like.. 5!

    so cool... :)

  • Hi, like seyavk I would also like information on how to play this game again. I played this game as a child and LOVED the music! Thanks for posting this intro!

  • PM sent!

  • D: hahahahaha WOW poor Atari ST, sounds worlds better on the Amiga and Genesis even. I'm not hatin', the ST just doesn't do that song justice ^_^;;;

  • That depends on your point of view. A lot of people like chiptunes such as this one, it's not the greatest chiptunes i've ever heard but most commerical games on the ST didn't have great chiptune music. To hear good chiptunes you always have to go to the demo scene.

  • Man I love chiptunes..they rule. I still do some coding of chiptunes from time to time

  • If you want to hear good game music on an Atari ST, try Crapman.

  • Atari ST had nice GFX; but the sound is like that of a C64.

  • The ST had a Yamaha Sound Chip which, I believe, was the same one used in the ZX Spectrum. I had several STs (Still have a couple) and the sound never really impressed me. "zeusgb" appears correct in saying that the best chip tunes were from the demoscene. The C64, however, had the arguably far superior SID sound chip, despite being only an 8-bit machine.

  • please send this game (lotus 3)to me or give me link to download, I have been looking for this game for 2 years !! plz reply

  • PM sent

  • Ah, nice :-) Dunno why, but Atari's sound reminds me Sega Master System's one.

  • It's (almost) the same sound chip, that's why :)!

  • Nice to see a game from my childhood again. Does anyone know where to get the manual for this game?

  • Try replacementdocs . com

  • aww... my ears

  • Another one with hearing problems? Go to the doctors and get your hearing sorted out.

  • I love this version

  • zeusgb, atari has its own nice sound so no need to compare anyway....

  • My ears!! it hurts!! Stop it PLZ!

  • What's up with your ears? Have you thought of going to the doctor?

  • :D, yes I did!!! doctor said there is nothing wrong with my ears!! it must be something else!

  • My ears! :o The Am... oh wait, I see you've already gotten too many comments like these ;)

Anyway, nice video, interesting to see this version of the game. Thanks :)

  • I remember this game! Well done for posting the video!

  • what's wrong wit the music!?!?!? arrrgh! *runs back to his amiga*

  • Nothing's wrong with music, go back to your Amiga.

Jay Miner = inventor of the Atari VCS, Atari 400/800 and... Amiga chipset. Amiga is way more Atari than the ST, which is hardly more than a framebuffer connected to a 68000 CPU.

  • ARGGHH my ears!

  • Why what's wrong with your ears? Maybe you should go to the doctors and get them sorted out.

  • a this sounds terrible. Amiga Sound was much better ...

  • So what if the Amiga had better sound, the ST chip gives a more distinctive sound. I'd rather listen to an ST chip than an Amiga trying to do stereo sound but not quite managing it.

  • I'd rather listen to an Amiga trying to do stereo sound any day of the week. Distinctive you say? Hmm, any Spectrum with an AY chip or Amstrad CPC could do that tune! I love the ST though, but please, it can never compare to the Amiga, sorry...

  • Some how I very much doubt that.

Anyway you believe what you believe and I believe what I believe. Each to their own.

  • where i can download this game for PC

  • I've sent you a PM.

  • send it to mee too

  • PM sent.

  • i wondered why the music wasnt all that, yer by far the amiga was the best, classic game ! actally all 3 were gd which one was everyones fav... mine was number 2 !

  • I still play this game on my STE on and off ... really great game ... about the atari/amiga discussion ... they're both pretty much on par I think. It's just that I like the chippy versions of the music much better :)

    YM2149 rules :)

  • i miss this gamee!

  • Amiga version is much better.

  • Were you an Amiga owner by any chance?

  • i am and i agree the amiga version was better

  • You would say that because you're an Amiga owner.

  • "You would say that because you're an Amiga owner." Is there any logical way for him to argue against that? This is becoming like a playground "my computer's better than yours!" argument, complete with dubious argumentative tactics.

I've owned both the ST and the Amiga. Does my opinion count, or only if it agrees with yours? Well, here it is anyway; the Amiga version is clearly technically better. Period.

  • Yes your opinion does count and I don't care whether you agree with me or not! I myself i'm sick of this whole Amiga is better crap, it's been happening on a lot of my videos and quite frankly i'm sick of it. I'm sick of people voting my videos down and posting "The Amiga version was better" like a bunch of fanboys/fangirls.

You can't say that the Amiga version was technically better because the systems weren't anywhere near the same so that comment is completely biased and irrelevant.

  • (For space reasons, I'd intended posting a second comment. Then I realised comments had to be approved, so waited for the first to appear.)

The ST's sound has personality, and I see why people like it. (similar my 800XL's). BUT it's basically an 8-bit era square-wave chip and sounds like it. If you enjoy that, cool; but compared to Amiga Lotus (search "lotus amiga better"), there's no question in my mind which is "technically" better. It's capable of square waves if that's what you like, though.

  • Take a wild guess why comments are set to approval?

    Each to their own.
