Dudes I totally agree with you. For me this is the most overlooked game of all time. The gameplay, the story, the atmosphere. This game has it all. I still play it nowadays and still enjoy every bit of the game. It's a damn shame that a direct sequel never saw the daylight.
Yeah, the new Shadowrun game that we ended up getting was a non-canon story. I read where they chose to go that route because keeping up with all of the Shadowrun content to date proved too difficult to accomplish in a single game. I guess a bunch of us should make a true sequel to the SNES version.
@Elfrunner It surprises me that as great as this game was I don't often see it mentioned on lists of the greatest SNES games or SNES RPGs... because if I can keep going back and beating this game in 2010 and loving every minute of it, then it is truly one of the most underrated titles in history.
I second every word of what you said. The replay value on this game is fantastic. No matter how many times you beat it, you still find yourself engaged in every minute of it when you play it again. I'm just as surprised this game is never often mentioned, as though it fell beneath the radar. Shadowrun is one of the most fascinating stories I have ever seen, and yet it has such a low profile. Not many people know of it.
@Elfrunner Exactly... and the fact that it has that much replay value and that it is pretty linear and short as hell(for an rpg) really says something. If they'd made a sequel to this game, tacked on a bigger world, tripled the amount of items/weapons, and given it the length of a SNES Final Fantasy, I have no doubt that that would have been known as the greatest SNES game of all time. Ok we have to make this game.
Games had better replay quality back then. They don't so much anymore, which is sad. This game is one of the best replayable games ever. I think they need to take Drake's word at the end and actually make a true Shadowrun II. Bring back Drake and Jake Armitage. Make it two-discs like Mass Effect 2. Expand the story and the weapons and the characters. And while they're at it, include this game as a bonus feature on the discs. This has to be made. Keep Drake's promise. :D
@Elfrunner "You're dead Armitage!" It would be awesome if a company would pick it up and make it, true to the SNES version. Chances are, that won't ever happen, so I'll have to do it myself. Since I'm only one guy it'd have to look like the SNES version too or else cost me 20 years to make lol. It might not be as flashy as an EA game, but I don't think anyone here would object as long as it was at least as good as the original.
This message board is proof that Shadowrun falls under the radar. We're the only two having a conversation about it in weeks. I've checked others, as well. Not many comments. That's such a shame. Hey, if you haven't read them already, pick up the first three Shadowrun books called The Secrets of Power Trilogy. They feature Drake and the story is similar to what was featured in this game, except Jake is not present. He was created as an everyman for this game's story.
@Elfrunner Well, it was a long time ago, but you're right I definitely get the feeling that it slipped past many unnoticed... which is a shame because everyone who DID play it realized its greatness. I haven't read any of the books I will def check those out. I think now would be a good time for another cyberpunk trend... I miss all the movies/games set in that universe.
At least it's not that far under the radar as to be discontinued entirely. I think I'll go play this game again tonight. Nothing like a good shadowrun around 2050 Seattle.
Awesome atmosphere and music. Rutger Hauer would fit perfectly as Jake.

The one thing I think this game completely nailed was the mystery and the detective work that went into the mystery that this game was.

I love this game. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

@Elfrunner Nope. Waiting almost 2 decades now for a sequel that will never come. Just gonna have to make one myself.
