never had a camcorder back then just a camara and I never would bring one to the tunnel ever....so many dam girls..( good one's ) on friday totally giving it up like 80% of the time....so crazy.. from over sea's they were ready for something..
Thumbs up if "VINYL" was reincarnated even in another location to be exactly the same and you would be GLAD to pay $50 @ door to support it.
God... If I hit the Mega Millions or Powerball, this would be the FIRST thing I'd do for myself and anyone would be welcome. I'd roll my bed out after closing and sleep to some loud music in the middle of the dancefloor.
Heartwrenching! I miss my club days. So lucky to have experienced all the megaclubs and the best of club culture. Back when clubbing was a REAL experience.
there was not tunnel in in 2008.. Cuz i used to go like hell and i would have been going still... man i wish it was around still. I used to do Vinyl on Friday to hear danny T... Sometimes rock the welcome to the tunnel track for 45 min... then the tunnel on sat.. It was insane..
Tunnel was really good...I wasn't into coke so I liked being able to actually use a toilet stall to pee.
A kid that was partying there did die outside that club. That was one of the reasons I never wanted to go back. I thought, if something happened to me, the bouncers don't give a shit.
NYC has gone waaayy too money & has become sanitized. The creativity and life has been condo'ed out of it. :(
Oh how I miss those days of getting listed and never having to wait to get in. Limelight and Nasa were great but Tunnel is where I remember the best times, with the best people, to the best music.
I'm _extremely_ happy I got to see the Shelter aka Vinyl at that Nasa Rewind event. That club was a complete dump but now I can say that I actually heard 1992 music and danced to it there. I wish the same could be said for the Limelight.... I really wish I could have experienced that club and with Charley Cassanova on the decks playing his Turntable Hype badbwoy choons.
I jammed here as a teen and bounced the tunnel during thehiphop days I really miss the tunnel NYC was the best place to party back then. Great memories
I DJed at Tunnel, Limelight, Roxy, etc... It was incredible. It is a shame what Rudy Guiliani did to NYC. He is the # 1 reason I left NYC. And yes, NYC Sucks now. Full of all up tight yuppies and hipsters.
Today I live in Moscow, Russia, # 1 city on the planet for night life. Search for "Mark Knight (UK) @ Zona club (Moscow)" It is like what NYC used to be like before 2001.
At the Tunnel you had Bridge & Tunnel kids mixing in with downtown NYC creative types and fabulous people. Now all the 'creative' people in NYC live in BK and are dirt bag Indie rock losers.. 'Downtown' not only died, it was mutilated and fed to itself before it passed on. I am getting corny deep, but NYC nightlife changed and NYC sucks now. IMO.
@Tuskeer I am a veteran of the dance floor and used to work security @ Vinyl. You ain't lying, it is now the city that sleeps. Thank goodness I was at all those Loft & Garage & Buttermilk Bottom & Gallery (the list goes on) parties with me. It's a shame because the kids today need places like that.
What a great vid.. Videos like this will ensure that others who weren't lucky enough for their own memories can see these 2 pillars of NYC nightlife.
So many things irrevocably changed nightlife for forever.. Giuliani's quality of life campaign, over gentrification of NYC in general, the level of DJ super stardom that changed the vibe from a weekly underground party with your friends, to a concert like experience.. so many contributing factors.
I remember just dancing my ass off and feeling nice. These new clubs are like going to some obnoxious poser bullshit. Lets never forget nations bar and then a couple of blocks away on ave b Lounge. People were keeping it real and grimey. Guiliani came and fucked all the fun out of NYC. Thats what happend!
I walked passed the old vinyl location the other day with my wife. I was trying to explain to her what it meant to be part of the NYC club scene back in the 90s. But I hope you guys also remember the old NASA before the place became Vinyl. This was the birth place of NYC party kidz, as well as talent like DB, soulslinger, FBonesOther venues included life on mars, bug, club USA, soundfactory, and of course tunnel, limelight, twilo, and we cannot forget arena with Junior Vasquez at the palladium.
@bababua honestly i am one of those new kids and i was just saying to my boyfriend, why couldnt we be this old when all these amazing places were around. the only thing we have is pacha.. and even thats getting wack. you're really lucky honestly.
I like many of you now suffer from a New Form of depression .. i dont know what to call it but no matter where i go or what club it always sucks cause i keep comparing it to the Tunnel,SF,Twilo, and the only church i would go to the Lime light ...so help us all who enjoyed life to the fullest and now ...now there's nothing.. you can have your Pacha and your Cielo and you Club Space (miami) i live there now..but you can NEVA have happiness. R.I.P nyc and the night. .. Daniel E Gomez
I miss the Tunnel I remember those days. wow i want to thank you for the experiance i had in all NYC night clubs. there was a reason for why people went to NYC and danced all night. it made them who they are today,.
ahhhh when the should just the front door of the tunnel there.. man that brought back some chillz cause,... you'd either get right in right off the bat.. orrrrrr your ass was wait'n.....a couple of times when i didnt get in right away.. I would leave and come back as if I was just getting there.. but they know you when they see you the first time.. and most of the time when you would get in before all them people waitin..
Man that Pic of Danny sitting on that empty floor and what it is now was really disturbing. I only wish I could have been there for just one of his nights.
That was painful to watch. Some of the best times of my teen years happed within these spots. Pete601us, you hit the nail on the head with that comment. There is nothing going on in the city these days, but at least we all got to experience the best.
Damn..its been like 7 years and I still miss this place..

It hurt to watch that. I haunted vinyl (and then Arc) for many many....many...a great night/morning/afternoon.
Tunnel you could turn back into a space...but wow to what they did to Hubert street.
Made me really sad to watch that. :( RIP.
