I met Chico back in 1966 at a Count Basie recording session. His childhood friend Manuel invited me. I heard them both tell Count how as a teenager Chico wanted to one day do arrangements for Basie; and how they used to kid around and propose Count Basie as President of Cuba. Basie was tickled by the whole story. Chico O'Farril ended up becoming a principal arranger for Count, including the famous "Green Onions."
ajajajajaj la cara que hace el bajista cuando esta voltiando la partitura escucha la cuerda de saxos y hace una cara de ..... lo primero que se e venga ala cabes en el minuto 5:10

This sounds like a cross between Duke Ellington and Machito. Whatever happened to the great jazz band directors? People don't take time to make this kind of music anymore. One all the old guys die, who's going to keep it going?
well, I could be wrong but this is what I know: Machito did the first recording of this O'Farrill Suite. O'Farrill composed it and did the arrangements for the Machito Orchestra to play it. And Charlie Parker was playing there too!
yes, you are so right. i might even have the old vinyl of that somewhere. I will have to dig it out and see if it is usable! Thanks for your response.
outstanding. i loved this! thanks so much!

Denzelsnipes69 I agree. Unless a few young ones know how to appreciate this music it will disappear which saddens me a lot.
