xraidedlok, the technique is called "walking the dog," do a youtube search to see how it's done. You can do different types of walks by how sharply, how far you tug, or pulling slower & holding instead of slacking. You can make them walk leftish or rightish with a sharp tug when it walks left, then a long/hold tug when it goes right. Sharp tugs will make it flip more, like fish flipping back and forth on the ground, or slower tugs while holding line will make it slide back and forth.
im gonna get some and try it out ive been watching alot of walk the dog videos is there any lures you know of that walk on thier own with steady retrieve?
None walk with a steady retrieve, (though check out the zig-zag action of a Jitterbug if you haven't already), but part of the fun of using walking baits is finding the tempo that the bass like that day. By varying the sharpness and length of each tug, you can make the lure flipflop vs. slide, or walk a bit to one side, etc. Once you've caught a few fish on a walker, you'll like the fact that the action of the lure is up to your choice on how to work it.
No, you give a sharp tug against a slack line, which will make it walk left, then the next tug against a slack line will make it walk the other way because of the way it is weighted, (kind of rear-centerish weighting). So you're repeatedly tugging and then slacking.
what knot should you use on these?

Bait is an easy way to get food for dinner. But... Lures are more challenging, since any dipshit could just throw a worm on a hook out there.

so it jumps back n forth like that on its own?

shows how in the video... keep the rod tip up, reel in steady, and twitch the rod tip.
Takes practice, but not difficult.
