Freddy played at my daughters down here in Cornwall 14 years ago - and wow - what a show, 300 people were there for the evening reception . . . and it is still talked about to-day. To my dear friend Freddy - Always remembered with respect and love. Rest in Peace.
I love the oldies!!! Thank you for sharing, I normally know almost know all the oldie but goodies but I never knew of them. So thanks for sharing again! God bless
great song; sad song, but great memories associated with it. Herman hermits also recorded it... thank you so much for taking me down that road once again take care vera
this was a time when british music was at its best.......even now these new bands are covering the classics......this music and these people should never be forgotten
Freddie & the Dreamers were the clowns of the British Invasion, playing their pop music for laughs while the other groups of the time were dead serious.
@kielego - I don't know about that. If it wasn't for humor the Beatles would have never been successful in a million years. The haircut and screaming the WOOO at the mic while shaking their heads is as ridiculous as it gets. In all great music their is always humor underneath. Freddie and the dreamers probably went overboard, but you look at the Rutles, that is based on humor 1000% and those songs Neil Innis wrote are every bit as good as the Beatles. Probably the only guy who every matched them
this my wife's and my song? she was 16 i was 19 when we married, they said it would never last? ball's been together 43 years now and it still our song.. thanks X
sorry i posted that reply 5 times. It's the first time i've posted anything since You Tube changed their format (got rid of the ratings stars and other things i liked). When i posted this, i didn't show up, the post just sat there as if it wasn't posted, still in the frame, "160 characters remaining." So i thought it wasn't working and kept trying. sigh.
@guitarist2611 The chords are something like this verse: E///B///E/E7/A/// E///B///C#m/AB/E/B/(turn around to next verse) E///B///E/E7/A/// E///B///C#m/AB/E/E7/ bridge A///Am///E///E/// F#///B/A/E/B back to the verse something like that
I understand that his manager tied him to this chair, with his hands restrained by a rope coming up through his legs so Freddie would not be able to do his frantic RETARD act. They also shot Freddie up with a horse tranquilizer. Even the teenie-bops were starting to complain about Freddie's goofy Spaz-routine.
they had quite a few very big hits and some were pretty damn good and sold by the shed load, they even managed to outlast a lot of other mersey side bands, although they came from manchester
Someone says, "poor Freddie had little or no talent for anything". Well, I'd have to disagree because his singing voice was very good. But it is true that he was kind of stuck in this kind of gimicky group at the time, and was more known for his clowning than anything else.
One of the lucky bands that rode in on the British Invasion vortex, poor Freddie had little or no talent for anything. Remembered largely for behaving wildly onstage (using he microphone to shave) he JUMPED and LEAPED his way into fame mostly as an oddity. His fans were mostly 12 to 14 year olds who grew tired of his gimmicks quickly.
Freddie & the boys added alot of 'Zing & Zang' to the era of 60s beat ! They are (to this day) one of the most memorable bands during this tremendous period of music in Britain, and they did record some excellent singles: "A Little You", "Over You" to name but two.
I really like this song. Its about the only song the group did that wasnt accompanied by a crazy dance etc. I liked Freddy. He made me smile. RIP old mate
Freddie looks great in this clip. He performed the song with total sincerity, listen to the final 'i understand'. I was only 6yrs when fred burst on the scene, i loved him then, & still do now...
Vwey nice song, I also like the videos where Freddy is jumping around and very funny, and they have a very good live sound. We need more bands like this to put some fun and romance in the music.
Thanks myrainbow2 for posting this video. Freddie and the Dreamers are one of my favorite British groups of that era. Their comedic act while performing was not understood or accepted, but for me, this is one of the very best groups that the United Kingdom has given to the world. Rest in peace, Freddie Garrity, rest in peace.
@rodant8100 Yes i have to agree there was acouple of groups who in my oppinion were has good if not more entertaining than the beatles and the Stnes around that time although mick Jagger was a bit of a laugh,Baron Knights,Hermans Hermits were excellent groups as well in another era they would hav been super stars for sure,
@friding999 Don't get too carried away. Herman's Hermits appealed to the girlies, but they didn't have the same talent or versatility as the biggest stars. And incidentally, The majority of people would say that no-one, but no-one came close to the Beatles - and I have to agree.
@friding999 I really did like the Barron Knights. I still find sometimes that I sing along to a well known 60's song and I find that I am singing the spoof Barron Knights lyrics, instead of the original artistes( e.g. Needles and Pins)!

Funny how he so closely resembled Buddy Holly. They were even the exact same age!
heb1114 2 months ago
@heb1114 Here, he's 29. They'd actually cut off 4 years from his age in publicity to make him seem young like the Beatles.

@laylacalif I know, I'd heard that too. He looks so young here, I don't think it was really necessary to lie about his age.

A remarkable old song here showing the serious side of Freddie Garrity.

This Freddie bears no resemblance to Buddy Holly... nor do dozens of other 60's brit entertainers.. like, say, Hank Marvin.
