I really enjoyed the film as an adaptation, and I thought Bryan Cranston was as excellent as I expected, but I completely agree with your comment about there not being enough life in the film. I wasn't as blown away as I was when I first watched Under the Red Hood, for example.
I think if they would have taken out all the time-jumps and just had the events play out chronologically, it would have flowed better. Major events could still be dated, but other wise, it made it feel jumpy.
too much like the book, didn't want to differentiate it from it at all, if I want the book, I'll read the book, this movie had nothing new to offer as an adaptation

I think it could be some sort of gateway to a hellish dimension or something along those lines. I suggest you get in touch with a priest to perform an exorcism on it before you burn it and bury it in lime.
therealmanos have you played arkham city if so did you like it. do you colect the action figures ik there is a dc direct catwoman figure comeing in april 2012 and she looks hot. great review your funny and have good insight into stuff.
I really like this movie. It's very down to earth. Although, people who are expecting to see Batman fighting a big supervillain will be very disappointed.
I didn't read the comic so I thought the movie was good. Yes I did feel it was missing a little something but I still liked it. I didn't exactly like the idea of Catwoman being a prostitute but knowing that's how it was in the comics it was important that they kept that. I liked how they showed a lot through Jim's point of view. I especially liked how Jim could have seen Batman's identity but said he couldn't without his glasses.
it felt... weird for gordan to have a lower gritier voice than Batman. I know they were portraying him as young, but still it didn't feel right. The problem is that while Year One is a great story, it's just too short for film, so the translation will seem stretched. I just hope they'll keep making these until someone decides to do a dark anime series for Batman thats more intense than TAS. I bet after TDK Rises someone will give it a go.

The movie was mediocre to me, but Cranston was awesome as Gordon. How do you feel about them splitting Dark Knight Returns into 2 parts? And what did you think of the Catwoman short?

Cool analysis! I like how you brought up 70's crime movies. I'd say Taxi Driver was definitely a big influence on Year One as well.
