Unlike most of the others, D'Angelo wasn't closed off, resigned to the idea that everything is set in stone and can't be different. He had hope for Wallace. He still was capable of sympathy, and he took it to heart when McNulty (or was it Bunk) asked him why couldn't drugs get sold like any other product without the constant killing--he even repeated the question almost word for word to Bodie. I love this moment because he finally raged against 'The Game', stopped accepting it.
D'Angelo is one of the few cats in the drug game who felt sympathy for others...I think he saw Wallace as a kid, maybe as a little brother type...that scene where Wallace is in the pit playing with a toy and D'Angelo looks at him smiling and it's interrupted by Bodie (who throws a liquor bottle at Wallace) says a lot...
@dumbwoodpecker Had nothin to do with weakness. He felt D might talk so he had to get him killed, sorta like Marlo thinking. Its kinda funny seeing how Avon was the gangsta and he wasn't deep down as ruthless as String. But guess what ? Who made it out alive
I don't get D man, ok he had heart but he knows how the games be, if wallace was snitching he had to go, period, as much as heart as both wallace and D had, he had to go
"string! string! where the fuck is wallace!" skilled acting for real....that line gave me goosebumps the first time i heard it becuz of the expression on his face and the intensity in his voice...great scene from season 1.. DEFINETLY
"string! string! where the fuck is wallace!" skilled acting for real....that line gave me goosebumps the first time i heard it becuz of the expression on his face and the intensity in his voice...great scene from season 1.. DEFINETLY
I feel this is the real reason Stringer had D'angelo killed. to have his subordinate talk down like this to him and stand up to him had Stringer mad. only time i saw him look like this is when Avon clowned him in front of slim charles in season 3
@coffee468 Stringer killed him because Avon & D'Angelo weren't even talking anymore & D'Angelo had 20 years over his head D was fucking up in jail doing drugs & shit & wanted nothing to do with Avon anymore if he talked which he did in season 1 everybody would of been in Jail D'Angelo was teaching Bodie & Wallace how to play chess that its like the drug game but he for got that pieces must be sacrificed in order to stay alive in the game I'm sorry to say it but D 1 of the pieces like Wallace
@coffee468 yeah Stringer never was close to D in the show thats my opinion besides when D gave him the money from the pitt and said cant wait to get that new package & Stringer told him the new package is the same as the old only time they ever had a convo with out a conflict unless you count the way D looked when Stringer was telling him that but i think Stringer never really had a bond with D that is just what i think
D'Angelo and wallace had good hearts i respect them. Avon was a product of his environment so I didn't hate him but there is something sinister about stringer
Just remember Stringer was also the one trying to change the rules of the game for the better later on. Maybe purely out of business sense, but there's that to balance against his scheming and callousness. This show would never have worked properly if there'd been a trace of black or white disrupting all the shades of grey.
@Warhorse3000 Avon actually cared about his family, he wasn't a monster. Obviously he isn't the nicest bloke on the planet, but he wasn't nasty like Stringer. I think the whole Wallace thing was Stringer's idea anyway.
my favorite scene from the wire period, LOOK AT ME WHERE!!! THE FUCK IS WALLACE!!! thats the shit, then he says I dont want this payless wearin mutherfucker representin me haha, whole shit is just best scene nuff said

did wallace really ever snitch? and if he did, was he trying to rat out his boys when he askes d'angelo to get back in the game?
dRiskYn 11 months ago
Absolutely devastating and raw. How D melts down, how String keeps his cool. This scene is better than entire seasons of some shows.

My second favourite scene in the Wire, after the one in season 4 where Randy confront Carver. ("You gonna look out for me?")

@coffee468 Avon was THE MAN in that scene in season 3. I was actually cheering for Avon big time, I couldn't believe it. Wood Harris is iconic.

Way to never get it right. This scene alone should've given The Wire about five of those little fucking statues.

@TheDarkKnight1985
Stringer just played by rules of the game. Both Wallace and D were potential leak points.
For me, D was on Avon, D being no family to String. Avon should take special care about D, bc it wasn't so hard to figure Stringers plans...
