Muhlis Akarsu was a Kurdish Alevi from the village of "Minare koyu". During 1993 he was burnt alive together with 35 people and 60 people wounded in Sivas, Madamak Hotel before a concert for the high community of alevi people. The people that done this was the Turkish sunni bigots together with the Turkish military. Many great Alevi singers were killed that day.....Including Sivas, there was great massacres done against the alevis is Maras and Dersin especially....also in Corum!!

He just sampled part of it for a beat. Research the roots of hiphop and you'll understand the art of sampling and looping. He's a hiphop producer who happens to sample a part of a song to make up his own composition. Its not stealing. He had to get permission to use this.
If you go through your library, some of you favorite songs have samples in their compotions.
This is so sad, First they kill Muhlis Akkarsu and several other respected alevi singer/artist.. And now SUDDENLY when Timbaland ripps of the song.. they are showing (the sunni-turks) how proud they are of 'their music'', and bragging about their great turkishness. By the way.. The song is indeed a PIr Sultan Abdal Song. Pir Sultan Abdal was a poet (14th century) and was against the Ottoman Imperium. So the picture at the end doesnt make sense!!
It's a folk song ... of course it has older roots. Doesn't mean it's not originally Turkish (Unless you can give evidence of otherwise?). The point is Timbaland STOLE the melody without giving credit to the ANY of the originators. It's really unfair, because he did it in such an underhanded way. I promise I would have been celebrating his ingenuity if was open about his sampling, asked for permission, paid respect to the artists, etc.

Just because there are these modern copyright laws designed to keep people's pockets lined in gold doesn't mean music belongs to anyone. Art, be it a painting or music, and the talent to produce it are blessings from god meant to be shared. Though I don't think anyone should be rich from it, Thank You Timbaland for having the foresight to delve into the music of other cultures that other people would never hear otherwise. Maybe you should give back a little what you make.
However, Timbaland didn't just 'delve into the music of other cultures.' He 'sampled' Muhlis Akarsu playing the Baglama without giving him any credit... It's not just that he used this song's melody, he extracted portions of the finished song and called it his own.
I agree that music doesn't belong to anyone, but modern copyright laws are in place to keep everyone honest.

I definitely understand what you mean and respect should definitely be paid to the recording artist for this track.
But speaking from a different perspective as a producer/beatmaker, you come across all kinds of songs, sounds and samples over the years and things can get lost when you have such a large catalog. Its something he may have had in his archive and couldnt remember where the sample
came from. And instead of getting not letting a song that turned out great just sit on the shelf because he couldnt find the original artist, or perhaps get in touch with someone who would know, it would be more beneficial to release the song.
Or maybe he knew... i dont know. But we can just jump to conclusions

He just sampled part of it for a beat. Research the roots of hiphop and you'll understand the art of sampling and looping. He's a hiphop producer who happens to sample a part of a song to make up his own composition. Its not stealing. He had to get permission to use this.
If you go through your library, some of you favorite songs have samples in their compotions.

This is so sad, First they kill Muhlis Akkarsu and several other respected alevi singer/artist.. And now SUDDENLY when Timbaland ripps of the song.. they are showing (the sunni-turks) how proud they are of 'their music'', and bragging about their great turkishness. It is something where turks are good at:bragging
By the way.. The song is indeed a PIr Sultan Abdal Song. Pir Sultan Abdal was a poet (14th century) and was against the Ottoman Imperium. So the picture at the end doesnt make sense!!

It's a folk song ... of course it has older roots. Doesn't mean it's not originally Turkish (Unless you can give evidence of otherwise?). The point is Timbaland STOLE the melody without giving credit to the ANY of the originators. It's really unfair, because he did it in such an underhanded way. I promise I would have been celebrating his ingenuity if was open about his sampling, asked for permission, paid respect to the artists, etc.
It's awful what he did. Shameful.

Just because there are these modern copyright laws designed to keep people's pockets lined in gold doesn't mean music belongs to anyone. Art, be it a painting or music, and the talent to produce it are blessings from god meant to be shared. Though I don't think anyone should be rich from it, Thank You Timbaland for having the foresight to delve into the music of other cultures that other people would never hear otherwise. However, Timbaland didn't just 'delve into the music of other cultures.' He 'sampled' Muhlis Akarsu playing the Baglama without giving him any credit... It's not just that he used this song's melody, he extracted portions of the finished song and called it his own.
I agree that music doesn't belong to anyone, but modern copyright laws are in place to keep everyone honest.
What if someone took a recording of YOUR voice and claimed it? That's what Timbo did... except with a musical instrument.

I definitely understand what you mean and respect should definitely be paid to the recording artist for this track.
But speaking from a different perspective as a producer/beatmaker, you come across all kinds of songs, sounds and samples over the years and things can get lost when you have such a large catalog. Its something he may have had in his archive and couldnt remember where the sample
