  • I'm not familiar with this O-Gauge track. What is it?

  • how would i use toyota tech. ... i would use it to tell them buzz off

  • How much $

  • the big one

  • Sherman Hill is not part of the Wahsach Mts. It's in eastern Wyoming between Cheyenne and Laramie. The Big Boys were built to handle the Wahsach grade from Ogden to Green River. They were so successful that they ended up on Sherman Hill as well. Even ran as far east as North Platte, Nebraska.

  • I have always wondered how they actually articulated these monsters and no movie or video ever showed it. Thanks for actually showing it. I could run the first third of it over and over to study it. So it appears that the steam pipe on each side is articulated at the drive cyl and again above the drive wheels. Pretty cool set up. What a marvelous example of mechanical movement. Thanks for show the detail.

  • I woulden't like to be run over by a real big boy :)

  • Big Boy was great. But many other locomotives were more powerful. Yellowstone, GN 2-8-8-2 etc.

  • Very beautiful locomotive. She looks and sounds pretty convincing with the white steam pouring out the smoke stack. The articulation is quite impressive. I like the effect of the crew talking back and forth. Since we can't have full scale Big Boys running, its nice to have a realistic model like this running.

  • BigBoy, the largest successful engine ever created, was not only a technological achievement and trophy piece, rather a necessity for the Union Pacific Railroad. Build for one purpose and one purpose alone: to pull large tonnage over the 1.55% continuous grade up Sherman Hill in the Wasatch mountain region just east of Ogden Utah. Before BigBoy, Many other locomotiveshavefailed to climb up Sherman Hill. A helper service was needed. The UP Class 4000, 4-8-8-4 articulated BigBoy was the answer.

  • me encanta esta rola

  • @ Toytrains1 How much do you pay for your big boy? The Marklin version seems appealing!! :-)

  • Awesome!!!

  • Amazing loco!

  • Was the big boy the most powerful steam engine in the world?

  • BIG BOY IS THE BEST!!!

  • Well I must agree that the Big Boy is better that the Triplex. Toytrains1 you were right. Sorry if I hurted your fellings. But what does it mean Comment Pending Approval?

  • Otto Jabelmann would love to see this!!!

  • look at that overhang!

  • I think the allegheny was longer then the big boy...?

  • no, the 2-6-6-6 allegheny was heavier that the big boy, not longer

  • Allengheny is ugly then the big boy.

  • it is a big train man i love it.

    from train fan

  • hhahaha... it looks ridiculous navigating that first bend... but its a beautiful engine

  • Big Boy was the longest. Allegheny was widest, tallest, and heaviest. Size doesn't equate with the number of drivers.

  • What?!?!?!?!? Triplex was longer than the Big Boy in all regards!!!

  • Sorry, but no. You need to look up the specs and see for yourself. Big Boys were approx. 132 feet long. The Triplex was only about 91 feet long.

  • But the Big Boy has a removeable tender so it doesn't count. Triplex has a powered tender so it counts like a part of the locomotive.

  • @toytrains1 You're right. I didn't mean to be rough. I was acting like an idiot.

  • @Triplex5014 the at&sf 3000 is the longest period

  • @pensyturbine ya it is

  • whats the differance new vs old??? its just age thats why its worth more..i really cant tell the differance if a 1930s train is made today..or was made in the 1930s???what do u think, and has every model train been made?

  • What about the 2-10-10-2? They look bigger then the big boy

  • Billboard reefers are one of my favorites, nice vid

  • They say that the Big Boy is the most biggest. But what about the Triplex, ATSF 2-10-10-2, Virginian 2-10-10-2, Allegheny???

  • how long ago did you get this big boy??

  • O-72

  • what was the radius on that first turn?

  • Which the cost of the locomotive is?

  • at least $200-300

  • @kinghellguy What!!! More that $1000

  • i live by the real 4012.

  • man sieht das bescheuert aus!

  • It was said the Big Boy could haul 5 miles of cars over a level grade. If this was true or if it is a myth I don't know. I also don't know if the motor on the model Big Boy could haul 5 scale miles of cars.

  • Well, there were locomotive more powerful than the Big Boy, so do you think so?

  • Got Money?

  • HOW CAN YOU AFFORD THIS STUFF?

  • nice video

btw, the boiler hangs while on curve is because the curve is a bit sharp

It runs perfect on O-72 or higher.

    It's a long boiler..lol

  • It is running on O-72.

  • can u post a video of your entire layout?

  • 0:15-0:27

  • i counted 52

  • I wouldn't mind having a Boy Boy for my O Gauge layout. Though I don't like that the boiler hangs over the edge when it turns.

Still, I wouldn't mind giving it a try for myself. Great vid. 5/5

  • Sorry to tell You, THe real one Hung over too, Not as much because the curves on real RR track are much wider radius.

  • I'm getting one too but it's railking is thereany problems that i should worry about. please reply!!!

  • same hear, im kinda worried about the railking version tho cuz if u look closely, ull notice that the trucks lift off the boiler i bit much and it looks weird but im still lookin fowrd to it

  • u know whats a shame? when i was little i went to steamtown in pennsylvania and the only thing i dont remember from it was standing nexxt to the 4012. and i hav pictures and still dont remember!!

  • Well, I'll say this, it looks like it knows how to go around corners! I'll bet it can even chase it's own tail.

  • Guys, let's leave the brand wars elsewhere, OK?

  • I AGREE!!!!

  • if lionel look fake u should see the big boy i have that is scale it was 1600 us

  • First, these aren't Lionel, they're MTH. Second, to me, it'w the weenie trains that look like toys. I mean, if you sneeze around them, it's pretty much a scale hurricane that blows them off the tracks! :) To each his own.

  • Ouch....I thought Rivarossi, Athearn, Atlas, even Bachmann were really stepping up the standards on detail! I found some really nice stuff!

  • lionel trains just look to fake for the cost i love the up 4 88 4 but i wouldnt give 5 bucks for a lionel train

  • yeah any thing bigger than HO scale looks like a toy

  • Awesome!!! i found one of those at a store for like $400... so my dad didn't let me get it, but i want one!!!

  • I have an MTH UP FEF-3 4-8-4 #8444 with 4 passenger cars that i run at my grandparents house

  • 53 cars? wow thats amazing...and the cars look great to!

  • Where did you get that yellow water tender. i'd like to put one of those behind my big boy

  • are the sounds in this video PS2 or the original PS1 by QSI? When I was a kid I loved the original MTH Premier Big Boy from 1997 w/PS1 The chuff sound on that version was awesome! It wasn't the most accurate to the real thing, but it had it's own electronic sound to it that made the chuffing unique and rhythmatic as I remember. If you have a good quality video of that Big Boy with the PS1 sound system, could you please post it and let me know!? I would love to hear those sounds again. Thanks!

  • I really want one of these but i just cant find one! Cool video, good work.

  • It would be cool if you filmed some high speed runbys right after the slow speed runbys. Just a suggestion.

  • Wow, talk about overhang. The real locos articulated like that, but not to quite that extent.

  • Yes, but the real locomotives were never asked to run on a curve that tight either. The real world equivalent of O-72 would derail just about any locomotive ever made. Even O-128, in the real world, would be an extremely tight curve. These are some of the compromises that you have to make with models in order to get them to run.

  • This is so cool! Those freight cars are gorgeous!

  • These N scale engines keep getting better and better. Modeling railroading keeps getting better. Too bad young kids aren't into trains these days. Some are, but not many.

  • MTH is "O" (yhink Lionel). The Athearn N scale Big Boy will haul 50+ too, quite remarkable.

  • Im not really young though... I'm a teen and I love trains and I always have. I hope to buy a model of NW 265. It's a steam locomotive.

  • Heh-heh, cool, even had a Coors car.

  • I wonder 50 and + years if that engine will be worth a lot of money? Awesome engine. I would love to get one of those engines.

  • Sweet, I want one LOL

  • wow that bigboy so cool

  • I like the bigboy where did you get tender after the bigboy

  • sweet articulation

  • The Big Boy is my favorite steam engine.

  • LOL I can hear the Crew talking!

  • That was awesome, thanks for sharing. :)

  • yes it does split apart in real life. thats what they did so it could do tight bends. it was genius.

  • where did you get it, and how much was it?

by the way, does it have to split apart in the front?(i mean, yah to fit the rails, but come on, i want to be a little more realistic, no affense)

  • That is how an articulated engine works, it does this so it can go around tight curves.

  • Did articulated trains do that in real life?

  • yes, the boiler swung around on curves check out videos of the real ones

  • What radius curve is that going through I thought the big boy needs o72 curve minimum.

  • That is in fact an O72 loop it's running on.

  • I know you don't have room for more cars but to test that engine get a load of flat cars and on each one put a one pound dumb bell on it and see how many it can pull i say 37 flat cars or 37 lbs.

  • You need a bigger layout man. :) With all your stuff you know it can be done!

  • I'm afraid the layout has grown as large as is practical short of getting a new house! :-)

  • tilting loco

  • I dunno. I saw beer, not veggies.

  • Why the turbine tender?

  • That's actually the aux tender that UP currently uses with the Challenger.

  • cool! the train almost connects to the back of his train!

  • NICE ONE! Next time, get a veranda!

  • wow

  • Wow! Look at the boiler overhang on that curve!
