  • it sounds like there are a lot of loose 4ths. is that just me hearing things or are there a lot in this arrangement??

  • I'm not shure of what is meant by "loose" 4ths but this instrument allows one to play orchestral voicings of chords you CAN"T play on other instruments, especially not the keyboard. I can play the following harmony with just 3 fingeres - C1, E1, G1, C2, E2, G2, C3, E3, G3, C4, E4, G4, C5, E5, G5....a 15 note voicing with 3 fingers. We are not used to hearing such harmonys except in an orchestra or with multitracking

  • @arrayorchestra I meant it sounds like every chord has a 4th in it, it's just kinda murky sounding which is kinda the effect when you have a lot of 4th notes in your chords

  • The Star Spangled banner contains only major chords which makes it sound optimistic all the time, there are no minor chords to make it sound "tragic". The array mbira tines have just 3 partials, 1,6 and 17. If the 1st partial is C1 than the 6th partial is G3 and 17th partial is C#5 , for the lowest notes this harmonic structure sounds murky like a large bell or gong, but still less murky than a piano which is nearly useless in this range..

  • sorry, we don't give away our trade secrets

  • where do you get the steel prongs and how do you make them? i want to make something like it, thanks and God bless

  • if your good at something never do it for free

  • @greentimmyblueniki nothing is free, and what's good is always in the eye of the beholder

  • BEAUTIFUL. Thank you.

  • is an organ accompanying this? so different!

  • This instrument was one of those with very long sustain making it sound like an array "mborgan" or an array "orgira", perfect for the national anthem

  • @arrayorchestra I see. Thankx for the info

  • curious ?!?

this remind me of a song on drukqs album from richard D james ?!?!

    curious...

  • Awesome! Can you play the Norwegian anthem next time? :D

  • I'll have to look that up, my favorite national anthem, just based on the music, is the old anthem of the SOVIET UNION, it was really powerful, I'd like to try that

  • Bill first arranged this tune and played for people, without telling them what song it was. Nobody could guess it out until he told them! Then they heard it fine when he played it again. Bill thought it was because people aren't used to hearing the sounds of the array mbira yet. What do you think?

  • In a perfect world you'd play at Obama's inauguration. Still, you playing mbira, & Obama being president... looks like we're making progress!

  • What a nice compliment! For the first time in my life the guy I voted for won, it brought tears of relief. He's super competent, if you think the talking was a performance wait till you see the actions taken. If anyone can do the job he can.

  • In a perfect world we wouldn't elect ppl to steal our money

  • You have typed one of my favorite YouTube comments ever. Thank you.

  • Go BILL!

    That 5 octave sounds glorious!

    Hugs!

    Patti

  • Awesome.

  • Patrick, what a stirring rendition! Cheers to Bill. Delighted to see and hear more array mbira on youtube. Bet Patti is delighted too!
