  • this chick is a dumbass....get ur facts down b4 u make a video

  • idk. i hate her though

  • is it me or she always wear that blue shirt

  • i really hate this woman.

  • She's a Nikon fan LOL

  • 14.7? It's a 15.1; this like many CNET videos are HORRIBLE. This woman obviously isn't a photographer; and then says the burst shooting isn't as good? 6.3 instead of 6.5; IT'S PUSHING 5 MORE MP.

    Fail review.

  • @rustynasty143 I Agree!! i was thinking "woman do you even shoot?"

  • You say it doesn't have a video mode. SLR's aren't designed for recording vidoes!! you do that on either your professional camcorder that you pay loads for or on (what i class as) your compact pocket camera. You buy an SLR for photos, not for videos. Anyone who buys one for anything other than photos isn't taking their photography seriously

  • what a patronising review lol...

  • if you can't even get the cameras proper Megepixal rating correct you should not e allowed to post. 15.1 not 14.7.

  • I THOUGHT THIS WAS 15 MEGS???

  • @brharte Yeah that was a very poor review. I hope anyone thinking of a 50D pays this little attention.

  • If someone's going to spend the money for a 50d, I assume they know they're getting a 15mp camera with a newly designed sensor that can handle that resolution. I assume, too, that they're smart enough to figure out that resolution that high pretty much demands a top quality lens. OF COURSE it's a great upgrade from the 40D if you want to spend the money on the camera and the lenses you'll need. (Does CNet pay this person for these reviews?)

  • This video presentation was filmed in a state penitentiary as production costs for a presenter would have been too expensive otherwise, in a time of economical crisis. A donation of 220 grams of tobacco has been donated to the presenter as a bribe to present this review.

  • lol

  • LOL

  • "kit lenses aren't really that great for getting a really sharp photo."

this so called reviewer has the amazing ability for stating the bloody obvious.

  • this is a good camera. just not a good review..."dumb down" ?

  • why is this lady so ugly?

  • and why does she know so little about cameras?

  • Isn't it 15.1 MP not 14.7?

  • Yes it is 15.1 MP. She dont know her ass from a hole in the ground.

  • That T-Shirt is horrific....

  • the 50d is a camera for people that care about image quality more than portability. And its not a complex camera in any way at all, you just didnt take the time to learn.

  • Scott you're probably right that I was impatient with the Canon, although handling is always important to me, as I rarely use tripods. Another thou or two and I could've had one of the better Canon L lenses. I'm very happy with my Sony however. For the price of and L I have a Zeiss & a Sony prime for the A350. That'll keep me busy.

None of the experts seem to like my Sony much, but the guys at the website "Luminous Landscape" rips the 50D bad. Knowing what I know now, I'd have traded for a 40D.

  • Can't go away without responding to your "image quality" comment, having thought about it a bit. If the 17-85 kit lens had been at least *decent*, instead of *bad* , I'd have kept the 50D and by now be used to both it's size & relative complexity. So "image quality" was actually the deal breaker. The 17-85 had incredible barrel distortion at 17mm, more like a Holga than a top end SLR. I've owned about 10 wides & superwides, in 35mm and medium format, and have never had such poor results.

  • If you mean first digital you're absolutely right Aids.I've actually owned, used, or rented practically every 35mm & medium format camera you can name-which exposes me as a real codger & an analog to boot, but I was unprepared for the world of digital.Getting better at it now.

  • @scottonrust35 Your right. I have this camera and there is nothing wrong with the 17-85mm lens. I get sharp pictures throughout the zoom range. There is no distortion at all. It is heavy for a reason. Because it is well made. The image quality is stunning. In low light situations I had a Professional Model who shoots with the best Photographers in the city. She told me after I showed her the images, that she had never seen such amazing quality in her life.

  • this should not be someone's first camera.

  • exactly

  • Vootie I currently own the 50 with the 17-85 lens, and i have yet to see any barrel distortion at all. It was my first dslr, and i adjusted to it quite quickly.

  • I photographed a multi-paned window straight on, & the top & bottom horizontals were bent like I've never seen before. Everyone said I got a bad example & I should've exchanged it.

What's amazing is the apparent lack of consistency & quality control at Canon. If I'd lucked out with your example, espacho, I'd still have the 50D, and be bragging about what a great kit lens came with it!

  • If you we're using the kit lense I need say no more. Get you a nice lense like the Canon 17-40mm ultra wide angle. Its a 77mm and does amazing pics. It runs about 750 bucks but worth it.

  • Well can't argue with solid testing like that, guess you just got unlucky. To be fair though, that wasn't the 50d's fault but the lenses (though both are of canon make) . What did you get to replace the 50d?

  • Espacho, I bought a Sony A350, which all experts rate below the Canon & Nikon equivalents(not the 50D-probably the Rebel XTi) , but I like immensely. It is small, the kit lens was (optically)better than the Canon, and mostly it has live view & an articulated LCD screen. Also it will take Minolta AF lenses which are very good & better priced. It's simpler than the Canon was (fewer features:you want even fewer-?-borrow my Leica). I don't think it'll be my last digital SLR, but I am enjoying it.

  • One thing Cnet enjoys, its acting like a food critic. There are a large number of improvements over the 40D if you are wanting a pro-sumer camera including the Digic 4 processor (possible future video capture). The 3" screen finally has good resolution for shot reviews. Face detection/ live view for the non photographer. HDMI output. Micro AF adjust for lens correction.

While it is not a must have upgrade for the 40D it is something to consider if moving up from a rebel or even the 30D

  • Nice.
