be aware - every coil turn that goes from top to bottom will negate a wound coil that goes from bottom to top! - wind many turns up then one turn that goes all the way down to the bottom and repeat.
@domzdayz2396 Radio Shack has neo magnets. They are often called "rare Earth" magnets. They are essentially just super strong magnets. I think you can find them in the crafts section at Wal Mart.
@96GmusicG96 no it won't. it probably wouldn't make a bit if difference. you'd need more power then. It only needs to be wrapped around about 5-8 times total.. and about any magnet would do.
@Tjingelitjong oh and I got it to work with a wire that is only wrapped around about 4-5 times.. and one time with a wire that was only wrapped around twice.. with no special amplifier of any kind. just some cheap E-machine speakers. it wasn't that loud but it worked. and the speaker was really powerful.. I didn't even have the plate on it.. just the copper wire wrapped around itself.. it worked perfectly.
@kody87061 Take the wire's from where you plug a huge sub woofer into and wire it up like that. LOL then amplifie it. yes that is spelled wrong and I can't fix it.. I'm too lazy to.
Just as a warning to whoever may build this project: DO NOT TURN THE VOLUME UP! the 30 Gage magnet wire is to thin to play music at a high volume. mine wound up getting hotter and hotter and started to smoke! it got so hot that it melted the hot glue on the magnet!
lol, you're blasting loud music and your mom is like "Shut that music off!" she comes in. "Wheres that sound coming from?" you're eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich off of the paper plate speaker "I don't know"
Meh, 1/2 inch wasn't enough. I took it to the next level with 1 inch diameter and 1.5 inch tall magnets. They can pull 90 pounds each. Its not easy to pry them apart if they come together....
i noticed that there was a lot of rattling and distortion. i'm pretty sure a good way to fix that is add two more business cards so that there is equal suspension on all four sides
