This is a PR sham. The dams deprived those environments of their natural cycles of water.  Flooding the Grand Canyon once every 25 years or so will not fix the problems that the dams have created. All this is for is to *try* to get the environmentalists off their backs by making it look like they're doing something. A one-time effort like this doesn't do anything to help the real problem.
