  • It looks very difficult to pull off because of the inherent risks of turning your back!

  • @greenecman i always see high level black belt give their back more than be in a crossmount...

  • So, is this the only escape from side control where you turn away from your opponent?

  • Don't forget that this is a transitional position.....you don't sit here any longer than you have to. If that means linking the shoulder roll back to guard IMMEDIATELY then you must do it. Some people here are assuming that you sit here for a while. You don't you transition quickly to the roll that Saulo shows in his book.

  • I've trained with Saulo and Xande. You guys have to remember 6 x world champion or not, no position is written in gold. A great Jiu-jitsu guy like Terere, Leo Vieira, Saulo himself, Jacare, Demian Mia, Roger Gracie and especially Marcelo Garcia would take that position and take your back with it, especially a guy like Ricardo Vieira, Leo's brother would eat that position alive. The minute you turned outward Marcelo Garcia would have your back. Now try that position with the Mendes Brothers

  • I think this would work in mma, you just have to make a fast scramble. Like 2 seconds. Yeah if you have your back exposed trying to escape for a while he will hit you like a sitting duck in water, probally right in the temple knocking your ass out.

  • If anyone tried this in mma they would get pounded silly.

  • i love this position. to keep them from taking my back i fake another escape i do from this position where i take my top leg(my right leg) and hook their back leg (their right leg) behing the knee and lift up. i then turn in and insert my butterfly hooks. i'ver heard it called the bj penn escape then i go for this. very high success rate.

  • do you have a link to the video of this escape?

  • Tahiti LOVES BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU!

Stop talking shit about it and pretend to know more about than others

  • You wouldn't hold someone down in mma like this.

  • @702decatur Well this isn't MMA.

  • @iwanttofight69

I bet it's better than having a guy on top of you in side control in MMA.

  • This no doubt is an excellent move shown by one of the best but everytime i try this my partner always gets my back, guess a lot more practice is in order.

  • yeah man, i use this move often. if you watch around 3:20 of this video, if you get your knee up and you elbow to your knee, he cant put his hook in to take your back, and your bottom hand is there to protect your neck, try that out, hope that helps

  • this is a very cool move

  • What this is like is shot sit out in wrestling... and does work only thing is when guy good at taking your back.

  • i've seen jean jacques machado use this before

  • No move is 100% as eddie bravo explains. So if you get a none experinced wrestler with this. This can easily work. Good luck guys.

  • Ummm lmao I agree with Germany on this one guys. Im not saying this guy sucks. But I see an easy ankle pick. That can easily turn him. Or drive into him. Germany your right but you need to chill the fuck out man.

But let me explain. Do you guys see the ankle closes to the guy on tops body. If the guy on top grabs his ankle and pulls it towards him and then drives in. Its an easy way to make the guy on bottom belly down, and the guy on top take his back from there..

  • I like it. I'd probably let them put their weight on my back (if they re-act in that way) and then grab a single-leg and drive into them to topple them over and take side control.

  • good stuff. looks like the likely scenario once your roll to escape is having your opponent end up in your half guard (or maybe turtle position). anyone have advice on how to ensure that you get at least half guard and not allow your opponent to re-establish side mount?

  • Wow. Germany...you show a RIDICULOUS amount of ignorance saying you would just "ankle pick" or "mount" Saulo freaking Ribeiro. He's a multiple time Mundial gold medalist and an ADCC champion. He's been destroying wrestlers...and sambo guys...and catch guys...and Judo guys...for years now. Confucius say, "better to let people think you the fool...than open mouth and prove it." I think that applies perfectly to you.

  • I hate Nazi ppl like you. You quote Confucius But yet your a Nazi?

  • Dude, Germany119 you have got to be the most ignorant wrestler alive. You wouldn't pick squat.

  • lol you have the audacity to say that to a 6 time world jiu jitsu champion and hall of fame competitor?

  • lol Geramny fail

  • Yeah go tell that to his abu dhabi medals

  • ok white belt three stripes i have a question ?in this position is it possible to go for knee bar on leg he is grabbing?or will he escape and swim over before i even have a chance to do so?

  • Blah blah blah. So much bragging... Complimenting yourself just helps you get over your own insecurities temporarily by feeding your ego. A true measure of yourself is what others say about you. Keep owning pal until someone owns you with a gun. Oh wait, you're bulletproof. I forgot.

  • one question... i am only a white belt so please dont be too critical... if my opponent does this, how would i be able to grab hold of the colar?

  • bravissimo

  • I tried this move today wow it worked great agianst brown and a purple belt thanks saulo

  • Can't wait to try this one. Great escape.

  • this is a great move and the only way to get out of side control against a black belt level fighter

  • style wars are lame growup!!

  • i agree that you never want to go to the ground against multiple opponents, and that you need to know striking if you're going to stand a chance when you're on your feet. dont see them as enemies, use these arts to compliment each other. use tkd/kickboxing to setup a judo/aikido/wrestling takedown. then use ground/pound to set up bjj sub

  • judo came from japanese jj. brazilian jj came from judo. BIG difference between bjj and "jjj". JJJ is ground work, strikes, throws, weapons.. basically everything. judo is MOSTLY throws/takedowns and bjj is mostly ground subs

  • Looks great, I'm gone try this one out in my next training

  • oh, and to biuemusic5, who thinks BJJ is the only art that's been proven by unplanned matches...ever heard of Judo, ever heard of catch wrestling? ever seen the video of Helio Gracie getting his ass handed to him by Kimura(yes, he is a real person, not just a technique). Judo has been around the world before BJJ has the chance to put on its shoes. this is coming from someone who trains in BJJ. no bias here.

  • you obviously dont train BJJ, shut up.

  • judo came from jiu jitsu son, to become the first martial arts modality in the Olympics! get your facts together!

  • Didn't you know? Everybody is a fighter these days and trains jiu jitsu! Everybody!

  • for street defense(not planned parking lot 1 on 1 fights), you do not want to go to the ground. just about 95% of BJJ is executed on the ground. if you like getting stomped, or trampled by mobs of people, go right ahead, otherwise, stand on your feet.

  • yeah because I make a habit of fighting angry mobs. If you are that worried about fighting groups why don't you join a gang or get some friends.

  • Yep BJJ is real coz I play it too, but Aikido is real too & Karate so does JKD. I dont think Seagal will become a navy seal & a presidential guard if his Aikido sucks so does Norris and Jet Li. I think they are real too. Real street fight is not BJJ alone. (continued >>)

  • cont. >> You have to know also how to kick so you can resist multiple attacker. Knows how to disarm a weapon. Real street fight is not one-on-one only. Real street fight is knowing all style for all kind of situation. So id say BJJ is d best so does other style. *peace :-)

  • BJJ is REAL! Its meant to be used in real life situations with a resisting opponent. Akido and all that other crap is all choreogrpahed and consists of moves with are not effective.

  • BJJ is very effective for 1v1 street fights, but I have to agree Judo/sambo takedowns would be more effective. Usually you don't go to the ground unless you need too, but you need to have a fundamental ground game just incase the fight does go to the ground or you are outmatched.

  • bjj is like karate of the 80s just overated except 100 times more homoerotic and wont work in the streets if u dont want your ass kicked i would go with judo/sambo-greco modified takedowns combined with boxing strategy,DONT GO TO THE GROUND unless u are tko'd

  • that's an incredibly stupid thing to say one month ago lol. brazilian jiu jitsu is the only martial art i've ever heard of that has such a vast history of proving itself in non-planned street fights and public matches. just incredibly stupid, and i have personally tooled people in fights with ease from training it.

  • i know a 50 yr old aikido guy who took out 2 big guys that had weapons lets see the flav of the month top that. the latest marketing gimmik kungfu, karate, ninja, bjj, etc is wasting time money injury. the best is non-attribute MMA soultions. we didnt start bjj to do sport bjj they wanted the REAL thing ala ROYCE,

  • lol wow your a joke lets see i don't think there has anyone who says that akido help them become a champ in the ufc or any mma thats because the shit don't work with ppl who can fight. go check out the gracies old footage the made akido masters look like a joke.

  • all forms of martial arts originated from china budy, so its only marketing gimic cause lazy people are too lazy to learn it proplery....fighting styles travelled from china through europe and spread out

  • lol you cant say that as a fact all ancient cultures had armed an unarmed combat, china is not the oldest civilisation. unarmed combat must have originally come from africa and the first people. fuck even chimps fight hand to hand, so therefore china is a marketing gimick

  • crock indeed every since whorian gracie the bjjers have been intent on making grappling the next mcdojo by milking losers for 8 years to get a useless belt and this is a typical propaganda video bjj using old ass technical wrestling moves ive seen in several books and renaming them

  • Sounds like you are informed about jiujitsu's timeline and are bitter. Must be mad because you as a wrestler gets booty pirated by bjjer's. But yet you read wrestling books and hate 8 years for some reason. Perhaps you even have a black belt that took you three years....lol. sounds like angry people like you are the real losers. Why did you even look at a jiu-jitsu video jackass?

  • either your a noob or a troll anyone can see bjj is another scam sure spending a a year or a few in any modern boxing, wrestling style is good but unlike other wrestling styles judo, freestyle, sambo, etc. they dont still use outright lies that have been pubiclily disproven and u might want to read up on old wrestling/judo books theres nothing new only parasites like these guys

  • post some examples or shut the fuck up

  • wow please state your source of books because I really dont think you know what the hell you're talking about

  • What a crock of shit. Slo Motion crappling. About went to sleep by the time he finally did something.

  • Hey, that's Leonardo Xavier. I went to a seminar of his back in November 2003. Awesome!

  • oh cool i thought i recognized him. iv seen him at a few competitions in houston but he has hair.

  • Muito maneiro

  • really good move...i'm trying it in class today!!

  • I have never thought of this move. Nice!

    thanks for sharing
