@Delfino224 I'd agree; after all, Shigesato Itoi merely used the video game medium to tell a story. It's a very fun game, but the story is surprisingly well-written and very profound. The scene where you find out who Locria is was very unsettling and saddening for me, for instance. It's just chock full of fantastically impressive moments, with no plot holes or BS to speak of...

When I first made it here, after seeing the Spider Mech, I half expected to see the Devil's Machine and/or Giygas. That would've been both so cool and so scary at the same time. :)

No, no it didn't. Fuck the story, I wanted Earthbound...THIS is not Earthbound. It was way to full of story, so many things didn't need to be there. Earthbound, the first TWO were just slightly better than average stories. A cute twist on the classic alien invasion story. That's all it needed to be. And Mother 3 became the stuff that Earthbound wasn't. Earthbound was praised for being a unique RPG. It was about kids in cities, with baseball bats and yoyos. This, was hardly that.

Admitingly, yes, it did stray from what the first two games had, possibly leaving a plot hole, but it was still a unique RPG that at least had SOME of the charm that Earthbound had.

There were still yo-yos and bat/ sticks, but there were also shoes and collars that were considered weapons (well, collars no quite, but it still raises offense).

There are still incredibly strange things about it that you would expect from EB, if you would bother to look or pay attention.

I've almost beaten the game, there isn't that much to look at. Earthbound had cute quirky humor, while this one was just strange beyond comprehension. It its own sense, its not bad by any means, but with the slight exception of the style (arguably) and Pokey making an appearance at the VERY end, it could easily be its own game. Like, what the fuck, all this shit cam out of nowhere, it was nothing like the first two. And they cut SO much from the 64 version, why bother!?

Besides, how much was Earthbound like the original MOTHER?

Earthbound wasn't too different from MOTHER, but it's still noticeable. MOTHER had a more serious atmosphere, and the story was noticeable, while in EB the story was taking a back seat to the game, and in MOTHER 3 you knew the story and are supposed to be touched by it.

All the games in the series are different in their own manner, in short.

Pokey has spent a long time in isolation, that he is able to morph the ASC and time travel, but is still unable to escape. In a past time-line, Pokey was one of the four to defeat a certain evil that wasn't Giygas along with Ness.

Pokey had been corrupted first, hence his cowardice in earthbound, He may have became more powerful than the evil by this corruption and engulfed the whole universe. As the Universe is ever spanding, things became anew, along with his home planet, with him and Those he knew on it. He traveled to the planet.

Giygas' downfall to Ness was because of his retainment to the Ness he engulfed, and therefore sees himself unable to purposely to hurt Ness. Pokey is Killed by his best friend ,Ness.

Japanese have a way of Pronouncing Foreign words, called "Katakana." This way is purely Phonetic, EG, "Mother" becomes "Mazaa."

Well, in Japan, It's pronounced "Poukii", and Mato-San just thought that it would better fit him.

But as for it being a mistranslation? Probably not, but since "Ou" (A long O) in Katakana is commonly used in place of "R," it's ambiguous.
