Good to see some people trying to help with education in America. I don't mean to offend, but I sat in on a few college classes in California for a few weeks when I was there and the class' general education level seemed around that of a year 9 class here in Australia. I'm not trying to insult or anything, it was just an eye opening experience.
You should try to get your videos promoted somewhere. I would say write a book but well, you know.
I agree with your stated reason for using semicolons, James, but your example belies that very reason. These sentences are not "desperate to hook up" in that the cause is not generally associated with the effect.
If told my DNA has mutated, I would not instantly make the connection and think, "Ah, f***...You don't have to tell me, James. More glowing? Right?"
The general public and I have no clue what mutation entails. It's not like writing, "I bought a sandwich; i ate it for lunch."
