I thought this movie was a dream, for years. I'd describe it to friends who all thought I was crazy. Finally, after a lot of research, I found it was real. Finding out it was a real movie was as surreal as trying to remember it, because - as you said - everybody seems to think it was a dream.
My strongest memory, by the way, is the kids finding the invisible string with a kind of dowsing rod/string detector they made out of cloth tied around a stick. So weird.
In 1990 when I first saw "The Peanut Butter Solution" on video, I also saw a mystery story called "Mystery on Fire Island". It starred 'Blanche' from the Golden Girls, two kids, and some mysterious diver that was smuggling paintings rolled up in his pretend SCUBA tank. There was another about some treasure hunt where some kids find an old map that leads them to a beach, where they dig up an old bell and some underground stairs, then find the treasure. Does anyone recall these two movies?
Man I remember this movie and yeah it was a strange film indeed. I remember my uncle buying it for me in a old vhs case awhile back probably early 90's.
I'm so glad you reviewed this freaky movie. For a while there, I wasn't sure if this film was just a bad dream or not. The images from it haunted me, especially when the little boy is lying in the hair harvesting machine....
La Fete is a Montreal based film company; they have a website that lists the Peanut Butter Solution as one of their works.
I'm not sure if the film is dubbed; it doesn't seem to be ... anyway, I have never seen the peanut butter solution, but I recognize a number of their other films as having been played on Canadian cable T.V. (superchannel, etc). Some of them are very surreal and generally "strange" ... French sensibility?
ugh there's this one movie i remember seeing as a child but I can never remember the name. There's this group of people and they are stranded on an island. I think there was a giant and pizza trees....I think it was on the Disney Channel...if anyone can tell me the name of it, I will love you FOREVER!!!
Third try.. my reply isn't taking for some reason. but if you go to google video, you can watch the entire movie on there. just search for the title, and it should be the 2nd result.
i totally agree with that whole seeing a movie as a kid and not being able to remember the title.
Like I remember one where these animated two kids like run away to the circus or something and have to sign a contract with blood and there is this clown who likes pancakes or waffles and the bad guy has a screw for an eye and at they end his pet ravens peck at him and stuff and all that is left is his eye
If anyone has seen that and knows the title please tell me.
I think I remember seeing that from Blockbuster 1.5 million years ago lol The Peanut Butter Solution is on Google Video in English, full length feature whoot whoot :D
man that does sound like such a random film...and yet I know REALLY wanna watch it lol
Yeah for years I only remembered this scene froma film I watched where there was a man pinned down by little people (too you it will obviously be gullivers traveles, but I don't know anyone else who ever watched this or even read it as a kid so it took me years to remember lol)
@PuppyZwolle The series that "the peanut butter solution" is apart of is called "Tales for all" (or Contes pour tous), it's a french canadian series of films produced by La Fete, a film company based in Montreal. It's basically a children/family series. Some of them are strange fantasies, like this film is.

"Magic Island." You know if you google the key words that you remember, you'll most likely find the movie. I just typed in "pizza tree."
