Front disc wheel is the most efficient and it would save a lot of time, let's say, in 30 km time trial. Only problem is that it takes a way too much wind and is basically dangerous to drive. I tries a front disc once on a road TT excercise and I had to stop riding when I got to cross wind section.
Disc wheels could also be used in the front, not just the rear. Back in the day, some pro riders used to ride TTs with two disc wheels. But latter on they adopted the carbon rim in the front instead because it is hard to get around corners with two disc wheels and you get less difficulty riding through a cross wind.
Track riders sometimes use 2 disc wheels because they will never or hardly get any cross winds in a track.
Disc wheels are actually a bit heavier, so that's a sacrifice.
