Sorry, I have to say the complaint wasn't with them at all. I love them both and never even met them. My problem comes with the kingston trio trying to be humorous at the end of a serious song. I blame this on the Kingston Trio. And as I said, I doubt seriously Harlan wrote it that way.

Not sure if they did it on purpose but they switched the final two verses.I like it!. It makes more sense. never thought of that! But the reference to the Everlys,I can't prove it, but I know the trio had a great sense of humor but the final lines just don't fit. I doubt Harlan wrote that in. Everyone sings it but that line sucks. So i don't use it. You guys were great!

Harlan Howard wrote this one in 1960. I grew up hearing it sung by Reno and Smiley and always gave them credit.
