From a very young age I was introduced to Ronnie Barker. I used to sit down and watch him with my Dad and Mum. Even from a very young age I knew I would always watch and love the man. I never knew him, I had never met him. But when he died I cried has if I did.
Makes me proud to see that 165 people have liked this video, and sooo far no one dislikes it. But of course, now that I have said that the cynics who view this will do it just to p&ss me off.
Wonderful, wonderful man... And he was really ill here too.. I read Ronnie Corbetts biog' and he said such moving and heartfelt things about his frendship and working relationship with Ronnie B... Ronnie B was really wiped out by this, but he was also so very moved, by both his friends and also the standing ovation, so well deserved, from the audience that night... Rest in peace Ronnie B, you really earned your place 'upstairs', I hope you and Eric&Ernie are having a good chuckle up there. :0)x
Ive seen numerous shows each one is as good as it gets with Ronnie barker I just sobbed at this because you could see he started to look I'll here and he died only a short while later a true magnificent genius
the best delivery of any comic actor, the true great, as introduced as the governor and richly deserved. Funny really, "what luck" is what i thought ,as a kid and still do now ,when channel hopping with nothing to watch i happened to find an episode of porridge, open all hours or the two ronnies.
...what a comedy genius!! I can still remember watching Ronnie on TV in the 1980s as a young boy and crying my eyes out!! ..so funny! Everyone remembers the 4 candles, but my fave must be the Swedish Restaurant sketch...F.U.N.E.X.. totally brilliant!
@coltsuperocean10 ... I agree with you 'The Swedish Restaurant sketch' was really funny too... ''S ... V.. F.. X...'' AND '' 9.. V..F..N..10..T..M...'' Had me falling about the floor, in stitiches .. AWESOME man, writer, and a really really good and true friend of Ronnie C... I bless the day that they got together to work on 'The Frost Report'...
Oh did you know the 'Gerald Riley' AKA Ronnie B, wrote 'Fork Handles'??
DJ doesn't take his eyes off RB the whole time. He knows just what greatness he is in the presence of, how privileged he is to be there and, more poignantly, that the great man was coming toward the end of his life. Such reverance, respect and love. I've clocked up at least a dozen of the 47,000 views so far, and it still gives me goosebumps. The adulation from the public goes without saying, but the adulation from his peers is truly something special. What luck indeed but not for him - for us.
I was very lucky to have been brought up watching this great man in Open All Hours, Porridge and of course The Two Ronnies. The words legend and genius are often over used I feel but in Ronnie B's case is totally justified. RIP Ronnie!
There can be only two words for us, who witnessed and saw his work.
"What luck".
We were blessed to see his work, I'm 20, but I still watch Open All Hours and Porridge. Why? Because its funny, witty and requires no flammatory material.
May you rest in humble peace Ronnie Barker, you are my hero.
Just a brilliant actor. Ronnie Corbett said that he and Ronnie Barker, whilst friends, didn't have the "chemistry" to stand and talk like Morecambe & Wise which is why they focused on sketches and things instead. Every interview you see where the great David Jason mentions "the guv'nor" you can see just how much respect and warmth he had for that man. Three stalwarts of British acting both comedic and otherwise.
No matter how good you are , no matter how funny you are . There will never be a comedian/actor that will ever surpass the quality that is Ronnie Barker. A great guy , a real choker to see him acknowledge his best friends .... R.I.P Ron.
without a doubt the funnyest comedy legend ever i could watch the 2 ronnys day in and day out they make me laugh all the time both legends. and watching this baft clip bought a teer 2 my eye i was in teers when he passed away the world lost 1 of the best there. r ip 2 a great legend gone but never ever 4 got
One regret I'll always have is that I didn't visit his 2nd hand antiques store near the end of his life and see him behind the counter. That would have been magic!
Sometimes, the following words are said maybe too quickly and perhaps without realising the significance of them. But you know something - "There Really Will Never Be Another Ronnie Barker".
Such a genius yet so humble. An example to us all.
"What Luck" .... that we were able to be entertained by the many talents and many guises of the great Ronnie Barker.
I teared up when I watched that on the night, and I teared up when I watched that again now. Such a wonderful talent, and such a wonderful man. RIP Ronnie Barker, we miss you.
Ronnie Barker is pretty much unknown here in the US. The BBC hasn't released Porridge or Open All Hours on dvd here even though they have put out other shows that aren't nearly as good.
