Thinking of the two narcissists that I've encountered, both propped up by their families, unemployed and unemployable because they don't have the discipline or desire for hard work, to gain degrees, to submit to an employer's requirements. They just "get along", barely getting by, yet either would tell you that they're brilliant, that their talents aren't appreciated in the corporate world. LOL
and how to get rid of those traits if they're rooted deep inside? particularly in case of total resentment towards routine. how to stop being deluded if you're deluded? who to check with?? do you have answers?
This sounds exactly like my father. As time goes by he becomes more reclusive, withdrawn and bitter. He drinks and his personality is so different than he was when younger. He idolized Frank Lloyd Wright, a narcissist. He and mom always talked (obsessed) about being rich and famous. I think the reality has sunk in tht this won't happen. They tried putting the pressure on me to be that way too..I'm not either and have no problem wih it. It's just sad to watch him..and mom..deteriorate.

some disagree in it's incurability. some books written on the subject, agree that life crisisees along with narcisist's will to change, sum up improvment until normal functioning. although in some cases it relapses and even worsen.
I know a dude who matchs this description, he thinks he is superior and smarter than everyone else but he constantly proves himself to be a moron and a fucking meat head, his wife will leave him when the youngest kid turns 18 because he is a compulsive lying piece of shit.
I really like this comment. Normally you always read that narcissists are these incredibly gifted, intelligent people (like in G. Simenons book e.g.), whose only defect is that they are tourmented soles. It used to outrage me to read such nonsense. Some of them are, yes, others are not. I met a few N. that are just total losers, although they´d never admit to it. And true, many of them end their lifes lonely and miserable.
WM Thackeray comprehended this "conspiracy of traits" - completely - in 1844, when he created the story of Barry Lyndon (the book was called "The Luck of Barry Lyndon," later made into a movie by Stanley Kubrick). Whereas the modern model focuses on grandiosity and perverse selfishness, the Barry Lyndon character is also like that, but as a result of being fundamentally vain and immature.
Some narcissists can produce good works though. I worked with one and in return for me applying my skills (language translation) to a job for a few months, he applied his skills (computer programming) for the same time period. Both led to good results (a translated book and a three good computer programs). But it's probably only intelligent narcissists who can do this. Unfortunately however, they cannot use this intelligence to diminish the symptoms and progression of this mental illness.
@Omgsome1just look up the "spot the twat" video here - that's the alleged narcissist. Then you'll see what I mean. He's like an archetypal case for the psychologists.
Whoagh ........ talk about a good ass kicking ! Does this mean that a series of failures and trouble concentrating constitues narcissistic traits ? The only thing I have going for me that convinces me there is still hope is my bottomless well of empathy for others. SO am I unemployed because I'm a narssacsit. I Hate the idea of working for =someone else, I'm staying at home with my mom and i'm 25 getting unemployment, but I am studying and trying to start an accounting business and I graduated in accounting, and really have few friends, none currently talking to.
I feel I don't have job because of the economy, and I feel I don't have any friends because nobody want you unless they get something out of it. I really don't trust anyone but my mom.
