  • I saw Yes perform at Balboa Stadium in San Diego(1976). I think that they had the stage setup for the Relayer tour. They blew me away! Saw them again in 1980 at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. They had the circurlar rotating stage(Started with Roundabout). Wish I could see that again. They were perfection.

  • Rock progressivo de primeirissima qualidade.

  • This album is a masterpiece, as is this live performance, incredible!

  • what else,,so goooooooood,always and forever

  • OH GOD what I have missed in life..........Is exactly what I see here.I was too young then(13)

  • In my opinion, greatest live performance tour ever by a rock group. Made all their recorded songs come to life and improved on most of them. Wakeman's organ solo on Close to the Edge greatest ever in history. I have seen them ten times (last one in 2004) and they still can do it.

  • @matlee... I also witnessed all of those shows and have to agree with you.. the musicianship on the stage still holds up today. There are few peers.

  • BUENISIMO!! CUANDO POR PRIMERA VEZ LOS VIDEOS DE YES , LLORE DE EMOCION, NO PODIA CREER, QUE LO QUE ESTABA GRABADO SE PODIA TOCAR EN VIVOL. UNOS GENIOS TOTALES. HOY EN DIA, NADIE LOS HA SUPERADO. HERMOSA MUSICA.

  • second favorite song

thanks for putting the live version up

  • Yescellent !!

  • Gotta love the lyrics as they make absolutely no sense at all. Yet in some sort of cosmic underlying poetic way, they do.

  • Thank you for posting this video of probably the best live clip I've seen ( Stevie Ray at the El Macombo is right up there)

  • Whitney Houston's dead, and you keep listening to this §

  • Wonderful

  • @lacufd Yes?

  • I had the good fortune to see yes in earlier days when they opened for Mountain in Gaelik Park Located in The Bronx before Rick replaced Tony Kay. Also saw them open for King Crimnson in The Acadamy Of Music. Believe it or not I think that was Rick Wakemans 1st tour & I didn't think he had quite learned the music yet :) Anyway My most listened to group of all time.

  • this was probably the tour I saw in Sydney circa 1973 unbelievable that a band can actually do this live, most of us couldn't remember the first two bars, let alone this epic.

  • This is good music man! F..ck Adele, Katy perry, rap and all that crap..

  • @Frankonino sorry, but Adele is not typical and stupid mainstream

  • I saw Yes in Denver during the Tales tour 1974. They used quadrifonic sound ( 2 more sets of speakers set up at back of aud.) When plalying this song, Ricks lead at 13:30 was coming from the back to the front eckoing back and forth. The sound was unbelievable. Edddy Offord the producer was at the mixilng board for this tour. No album or film can capture what it was like at these concerts in the 70's. Yes was at their best live.

  • 6 people have different tastes in music than we do, let it be. For goddsakes when we bash people for not liking this music it turns them off to it even more, because they view prog rock fans as pretentious idiots, rightfully so sometimes. I think if it weren't for the average prog rock fan, there would be a lot more prog rock fans. I realize I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this but the truth really needs to be said.

  • Six assholes didn't enjoy this epic and classic rock.

  • Masterpiece... OMG look at Wakemans cape. The only folks to come close were emerson lake and palmer

  • Wakeman is a God.

  • If you want to feel what an orgasm is...go to 9:45 and by 11:50 you'll know.

  • @echoridgedrive The entire song is an orgasm!

  • They were the first concert I ever saw ... 1974 at age 17. They remain the most creative and brilliant band of all time. If you ever get a chance to see Jon Anderson play his acoustic show...do yourself a favor and go. He is playing at the Green Valley Ranch Casino in Las Vegas on Feb 24, 2012. I saw him there last year. It's absolutely phenomenal. Without a doubt, his is the greatest voice in rock and roll history.

  • Anybody know if there is footage of Bill Bruford playing Close To the Edge live. He was on the studio recording. I like Alan White but Bruford was in a league of his own. So creative.

  • Superb auditory journey to somewhere.

  • I'm 15 And I Like that music ^p^

  • ❤ Yes is Yes forever ❤ ...!

  • Incredible musical composition from the greatest progressive group of all time!

  • @MrJonmonter Indeed. And the musicians present onstage were actually playing the notes on real musical instruments in real time. Unheard of today. Perhaps someday this custom might return.

  • In one approx. eight-month period from late 73 to mid 74 I saw Yes (Topographic Oceans), Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Brain Salad Surgery), Gentle Giant (Glass House, Octopus), Jethro Tull (Passion Play) and The Mahavishnu Orchestra (Birds of FIre, Between Nothingness & Eternity).

    All those bands.

    Live.

At the height of their powers.

Any questions why I cannot take Skrillex seriously?

  • @mattleemattlee123 I am from Detroit and i saw all those same concerts here. I am 54 and am so thankful to have witnessed what is now obviously a magical era for creative music. I dont think there will ever be another period like it. Thank god I saw it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears. You cant put into words what those days were like. Those memories live forever.

  • @331paradiddle I am your same age and I thank God that I had the opportunity to live those years. Long live progressive rock!

  • @mattleemattlee123 Saw all of those also! Can't top that,it was a great time for Rock music...I think i saw the Strawbs also in that period...The Tull show started with that heartbeat at the beginning of Passion Play...What a show.

  • @mattleemattlee123 very jealous.

  • @mattleemattlee123 and how did those experiences change you? What did you see there?

  • @mattleemattlee123 where can I obtain the YESSONGS video? jeffsprks@yahoo.com. thanks Jeff

  • 800th like, boo ya

  • My eyes were tearing up at the end of the song. Watching this concert makes me feel so depressed because i will most likely never get to see Yes as a whole band play live because I discovered how great yes was only a year ago.

  • The music of Heaven!!!

  • my favorite song from them. such a masterpiece.

  • Sorry for miss spelling. I'm not thick but wrote "there" instead of "their"

  • Aaaaaaahhhh! the seventies, god blessed.

  • how does rick keep the organ sound with out touching it at the end of the breakdown around at around 13:30? i know hammonds have pedals but i hear more than the pedal

  • @dad72727272 I believe a lot of that was a recording of the church organ part from the original version. A Hammond can't make that sound.

  • @stalrunner He was not just on a Hammond...his set up included many different keyboards arranged in a box like formation during a show...and each time I saw the band live...he also used a Moog...he was always sitting on a swivel stool that and he would flip from one keyboard to the next and often play two or three at the same time...Rick Wakeman is definitely one of the best keyboardists EVER...

  • @AnitaMarieStewart Oh I know. In recent times he still used about a dozen keyboards, including a pair of minimoogs. In this video, you can clearly hear a pipe organ, but there is no pipe organ on that stage.

  • @stalrunner You are correct. There were a few cues played from tape in those days. The intro sounds, the pipe organ section ( but doubled live by Rick on his Hammond, and the outro sound effects. Everything else was played live. Rick did have more than one Minimoog in the live rig and at times had two Mellotrons as well.

  • Yes is so amazing!

  • So much going on in alot of Yes' music. Detail. Pure. Clean. Everything.

  • @runntum

    you know it! :)

  • That bass is amazing. I hope I can own a rickenbacker one day.

  • Oh my God my Friend! This is fantastic and thank you for posting this at our group site! Auntie N2!

    Happy Anniversary! N

  • this was one of the first records i ever purchased.(close to the edge) after listening to it i quickly went back to the record store and bought the rest of yes's releases. to this day, and even now as i listen yet again...this is my favorite music in the world. chris squire's bass playing inspired me to buy my first rickenbacker, and has influenced my journey as a musician. like donovan said during the relayer tour...."thank-you, yes" !

  • uckF pink floyd

  • In my 50-odd years of listening to music, no one van touch these guys for musicianship. I first heard "Every Little Thing" (by Lennon-McCartney) on the radio in 1970 and was instantly impressed with their version. Intended or not they always kept me close to God until I finally became a Christian 11 years ago. I still love them all dearly! Thanks for all the great music!

  • De eerste keer dat ik Yes hoorde was ik direct verkocht. Schitterend en mooi. Erg inspirerend en een van betere muziekgroep ooit.

  • i love this so much rick wakeman solo is amazing

  • RADIANCE, INCARNATE...........

  • this is a greattttt song! i cant bleive i never hrd dis bfor

  • I saw this lineup in 1973. I scored some tickets on the floor just six feet from the soundboard and Eddie Offord, who was producing Yes at the time. Bruford was amazing on his kit, and this was the only time I saw him with Yes. (I saw him with King Crimson later) I was always amazed at Squire's ability to harmonize with Anderson and Howe while playing such difficult lines on his Rickenbacher. Of course Wakemann, resplendant in his gold Cape, was a sight and sound beyond words.

  • The first Yes album I ever listened to was Yessongs. Consequently I became accustomed to the live versions of 'Close to the Edge' 'Roundabout' etc. long before I heard the original studio albums. The live versions have much more or an edge to them and I found the studio versions too tame by comparison. Saw them twice in the 70's - once with Rick on keys and once with Patrick Moraz - both excellent concerts I'll never forget. Great post - thanks.

  • Una de las bandas que me despertó la la mayor admiración por la música

  • Beautiful music, period.

  • i saw at this show at the L.A. Forum, Calif. too, and today at almost 54 i still consider Close To The Edge a Masterpìece... from beginning to end... thank you for the post

  • yes, White. Bruford went to play with King Crimson I believe

  • i just realise that i am very old nowe and must go nowe

  • So this is Alan White, right? Cuz i thought Bruford parted just after Close to the Edge came out

  • over and done but not forgotten

  • Still one of my most favorite bands in history!

Jon Anderson - Steve Howe - Chris Squire - Rick Wakeman - Alan White was my favorite line-up.

  • @stamatis53 easy

  • @stamatis53 agreed 100% that line up is gold

  • @doolb666 Hi,Same as Me......Thanks be to God for Yes !!

  • @walaron1 Yes saved me from a lack of God my friend :)

  • This is why I love Wagner now.

  • @josecango2 teacher teacher

  • Dusting off my player and digging out the old Yessongs album

  • Loved them back in the 70's and still do....have the original vinyl album and still play it...one of the best bands of all time!!!

  • As a young person, I do have the attention span for a song like this. I have always had a strong spiritual connection to this song and it has helped me through some very hard times.I got up, I got down, I got up. Right now I'm down. But hearing this song again today, lets me know I'll get up.

  • My all times favorite band and song. Thks for posting.

  • How many times have I listened to this since '72-'73? era? A better question is how many MORE times will I be able to listen to it??

Cheers to everyone and wish for you all a good 2012.

  • @ASeasonedWitch Yes was and will always be the best progressive rock band ever. Many years from now they will still be revered as classic musicians. Close to the edge is a superb masterpiece.

  • @RMaidla see the seeds of life at 2:12? Jon sings about them in And You and I

  • For those who don´t know what an orgasm is, it starts at 14:43

  • I remember shaking the house with this original vinyl on a Yamaha PX3 thru an M-4 amp and JBL L-112's speakers ....

  • Fantastic album.I was there!

  • Godly awesome lucid. Fucking Godly awesome high.

  • wonderful and beautiful...

  • Used to study to this (triple album) in college; I think my unconscious mind learned and progressed more during these sessions than my conscious mind! The spirit of God speaks through Jon Anderson's voice and this music.

  • @cyyyggnus - You may be correct. I've had the same suspicion myself. Cheers.

  • This is the awesome line-up that produced most of thier top-noched classics. Other line-up worked but Yes isn't Yes without Jon sorry. Unlike Genesis there isn't anyone to replace the voice that is like none other !

  • 16 April 1973 St. Louis, Missouri Kiel Auditorium Was there.....In the round baby...I was there!.......

  • I can guarantee it is not a 335, absolutely. Either a 345 or 355, but probably 345. Steve's main axe from then was a Gibson 175. I compared this vid to a current one with their 'new' singer. What were they thinking? It is cringeworthy, next to this awesome band, which I saw on this tour and others.

  • BEST PROG SONG OF ALL TIME. (THUMB UP IF YOU AGREE)

  • Hey guitar lovers, Anyone know which Gibson Steve Howe is using?

  • @TheMonarch1000 He is playing the Gibson ES 335

  • @godbluffvdgg Actually, judging by the neck inlays and the round vari-tone switch, it is probably a 345, and the guitar on the stand is a Coral Vincent Bell electric sitar. Great track.

  • @thekingsarehere You could be right... I got that from the original liner notes for the album which I have on vinyl. "Steve peels fluid and frenetic riffs from his recently acquired Gibson 335 – it’s like hanging from the caboose of a speeding train".

  • Godlike....most kids today won't have the attention span for something this great.....all the nuances, the details, the musicianship...one of the best bands I have ever listened to in my 42 years of life on this planet.

  • @audioneurosis meet a member of the 1% :D

  • @audioneurosis ive been hooked on these guys for 2 years now. im 18 so i guess you could say im some what a kid still. getting a bunch of my friends into yes as well!

  • @doolb666 - First time I heard YES I was hooked too. That was in 1972 and I was almost 15 if I recall. Welcome young one. Glad you're here and into this great music! Cheers : )

  • @ASeasonedWitch haha i only wish i couldve been around when they were still putting on shows at great as this. i want to go see them but the live videos ive seen of their performances these days are laughable sadly :(

  • @audioneurosis "The Enlightment" this is was "yes" for us back then as is still....every chance i have the opportunity to see Jon carry on~~~~

  • @audioneurosis I guess Im not one of those "most kids" lol Im 17 and I think Yes are masterful... got into them from this album

  • @audioneurosis Believe it or not, I'm only 13 years old, and I LOVE yes..... I've been listening to them for as long as I can remember. I agree dude, people these days.... anyway. Love this song and this band.

  • @audioneurosis im 14 and i listen to these progressive rock masterpieces rather than the shitty pop music of today

  • @audioneurosis I agree totally. I've been to two of their live concerts and it blew me away with there virtuosity.

  • @audioneurosis They're also mine, but only for fifteen years on a planet. Maybe there are a lot of kids that've no interest in this. But what I can tell is that through year seven to year twelve at my school, there are hundreds of people (in particular all my friends) that live and breathe music for the purpose of a journey and even more importantly are inspired by it in our own lives and creations. This music is a journey! And in the youth around me Yes is adored and payed right respect

  • @bray12do Good for you, kid! Never give up; never surrender. In an era when most "musicians" are essentially doing karaoke onstage to a pre-recorded sound-track, people like you give me hope. Music will emerge again, one day.

  • thank you for putting this up!!! Yes is one of my favorite bands of all time!!! jon anderson is a master lyricist!!! they are one of my biggest influences on own music and poetry.

  • I am a sperm. Swimming through the void to my destiny..

  • As a college student, these guys have taught me one thing: An occupation ceases to be an occupation, but a spiritual experience, when you see the deeper meaning in doing what you love. I can only hope to do the same with chemistry, my chosen profession: It inspires awe in me and spiritual wonder as I surmise these artists feel from their music.

  • @kylebossify See the seeds of life at 2:12 that jon sings about in And You and I

  • I spent a lot of summer job money gobbling up Yes albums in the 70's. A memorable concert in 79. I do not know if the kids of today are going to have these kind of imprints on their youth like we had. I hope so! My 18 year old loves music and he just loves Close to the Edge.

  • I saw this tour when I was 13, was my first concert. MSG in NYC. An amazing spectacle of lighting and sound. To see the PA Mains Lights, suspended from the roof of the Garden blew me away. Wild looking set pieces clustered over Wakeman and White.

Monumental night. John Martyn opened on acoustic guitar and various echo effects That in itself was a treat, one guy onstage, in front of 18,000 !

  • @sturoc0 are you sure it was this tour? the first show yes played in msg was on Feb. 18th 1974 tfto tour...18 & 20th Feb. 1974

  • @Hrci04 had thought it was, but after cking you are correct and the dates are correct as i still have the ticket stub !

We are talking some 38 yrs ago. So at least i can remember the important stuff !

And i only had a few puffs that night as the air was filled already !

I wish there was a vid of the MSG shows cause John Martyn was incredible too.

  • @sturoc0 too bad they didn't filmed...saw the pictures of the stage looks awesome...just incredible

  • One word. Masterpiece

  • this song is without a doubt one of the greatest ever done by anybody!!!

  • I played this album for my grandfather (a classically trained vocalist in his late 70's at the time), and he closed his eyes and kept time with his fingers through the entire album without ever speaking. I thought "he hates it". When the album was over he asked if I had any others by them. This was right after Relayer came out. Occasionally I would come up to the house and would hear him inside listening when Granny wasn't home. What a trip. :)

  • @f4gjerry that is awesome!!! i think that is now one of my favorite stories ever!

  • Wish the sound was better but I still Have every note in my head :) Haters go on about nonsensical lyrics (use your imagination...I think that;s the whole point), that notwithstanding there is no denying musicianship and orchestration, This and Relayer are my 2 fav albums (you never hear on a radio), I heard a dj recently refer to Starship Trooper as a "deep cut" lol.

  • My first yes concert was 1973.....4 bucks! saw them a year ago in New Orleans House of Blues...75 bucks......worth every penny!!!!

  • Esta canción es una de las mejores de YES

  • Chris Squire is the fucking man!

  • @bigmanpigman you got that right mate!!!

  • @bigmanpigman Chris's bass is some sick and nasty lows ain't it? He's a fuckin monster bassist. Steve is my boy though...

  • I'm gonna play CTTE at my wedding.

  • Closing your eyes and really listening to this is the closest thing to nirvana I can imagine.

  • This is so perfect exiting, fantastic music!!

  • I'm 19 and my dad introduced me to these guys way back when. same as rush and others. Prog Rock will never die. This is too good of music to let go. Wish I could of lived the 70's to see this kind of stuff.

  • @SirJustin16 your father is a saint for turning you on to this style of music.

    prog for life <3

  • YES! I love Yes! (:

  • masters of all times, after all these years the band still together with their special essence and touring with the same energy .................. awesome band ............. unison ........ super !!!

  • The great ,that opening still never fails.Howe you genius.

  • oh, the times of hearing Yes on WQDR - Raleigh when they played album sides. Yes was the most influential band to me and so many others and so far ahead of their time. Many many thanks.

  • these people are not aware how lucky they were to see this masterpiece back then

  • @Hrci04 Oh, trust me... We knew and embraced every note to the end. I saw YES here in philly ( one of their favorite towns to play in) many times in the seventies. Here I am 35 years later and loving YES even more now that it has stood the test of time. I will listen to them till I die and I hear something new each time I listen. YES is a state of mind. They are just one of the great prog groups though, Giant, ELP, Crimso, VDGG, Genesis, Camel, Mahavishnu, Gong, etc, are just as great.

  • @godbluffvdgg great to hear that tnx for the feedback...in philly there was this dj guy i can't recall his name but he played yes non stop on the radio so philly was like their home town and yes were peoples band...i also like genesis elp vdgg and king crimson...i only regret that i didn't saw them with bill on drums (fragile tour '72) i'm a drummer i just love bill's concept of playing in yes although alan did a great job on this tour and onwards but it isn't the same.

  • @Hrci04 Yeah Bill is great. I am a drummer too. Did you ever see Bill with Crimso or with Earthworks. Good stuff! I love Bill's offbeat tempos, ( he's a little pretentious, but I guess I would be if I were him too.: ) I never saw YES with Bruford either. I was too young in 74. Alan is a monster drummer. We used to have YES weekends and 24 hour YES on WMMR back in the day. Radio sucks now in philly, horrible. Thank god for CD's!

  • @godbluffvdgg I love Bill's contributions in yes, king crimson, earthworks and with U.K. great band...it has that special feel when he plays thinking mans music so I always preferred his playing and sound rather than Alan's but a great respect to Alan especially on tales and relayer not to mention gfto love that album...as far as radio is concerned there are some good stations but I have my 2003/04 remasters they done a great job with them so I don't need listen to radio.

  • this is such a high level of music and energy!!! thank YES I got in love with you since the first time I heard this album when I was 10 years old.1972!!!!!!

  • Good dam.. I will never get board of this.

  • @herreraricardo85 same buddy, they are forever, increible band and everything related with, super band of the psycho/prog generation

  • Chris Squire is superman!!!

  • Thank you for share that rare preciosity with us!

  • @shakriviere Its amazing what one can see in a dew drop from a spiders web. Notice the microscopic creatures at begining of video.

  • Comment removed

  • That melody after the improvisational opening brings back those memories when I saw them premier this at the Crystal Palace park in South London after their US tour on a beautiful September day. I instantly loved it. I was their 6th spiritual member for years after that. ¦-)

  • @petermcintyre100 see the seeds of life at 2;12

  • iam 25 and iam listening to yes for like 20 years now, God bless my father for introducing them to me, i dont even was forced to listen to yes music, i just liked them from the beginning... Starting from like 7years old haha, seen them 6 times now and next month, it will be 1 time more. Its not only "dads" music. :D cheers

  • HOLY SHIT
