pEOPLE SELDOM UNDERSTAND THAT SOME PROBLEMS ARE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND AND TAKE TIME, EFFORT AND MONEY TO FIGURE OUT AND SOLVE; IT'S FALSE ECONOMY TO SAVE THE TAXPAYERS MONEY IF ENDS UP KILLING SOME OF THEM!
The british airways plane was over 6 years old and in the first video, they said this pilot did this flight numerous times. They didn't say it was a 777, but I'm assuming that it was for many reasons. How did it take 6 years for this problem to occur is what i want to know
@malamagr - The Monday morning quarterback. Watches a Youtube video and PRESTO, he's got it all worked out. There are millions of parts in a plane, but good old malmagr just knew to go straight to the ice problem. Genius.
WHat nobody knows is, that the CPT quit his job at BA, because nobody wanted to fly with him anymore. He could not find a new job, because he had an accident.
As far as I know is, that he rejoined BA. But I´m not sure about this.
correct me if im wrong the 777 plane fuel tank must have frozen over russia and clogged the fuel pipes until the plane has went to lots of heated pressure right before the crash landing .
@siannmage british pilot training has millions funded in it every year, but most britsh crashes have all survivors, watch seconds from disaster - mortorway disaster the crash happened about 20 years ago when not much money was funded in pilots. It happened locally to me.
wow i cudnt imagine how frustrating it would be to be an air crash investigator!! its like finding a needle in a hay stack and i take my hat off to them as well as the pilots & crew of that plane :)
@pubuman Rolls Royce has provided excellent machines since it began, it powered the spitfires it produced the legendary cars and its still going strong, What have General electric done huh? BRITAIN BRITAIN BRITAIN
Actually, the problem that brought down this aircraft happened specifically because of a problem with the RR Trent-800 jet engine. The Boeing 777s that were not affected by this problem had Pratt & Whitney or - wait for it - General Electric jet turbines on them.
So, General Electric provided engines that did not cause this type of crash. Your arrogance makes the rest of us British people look like twats. So stop it. Now.
@irritablerodent The original quote from Sherlock Holmes was, "How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" This is logically sound.
@kdum8 It is logically sound if you have access to all the information in the universe. There are an infinite number of impossibilties, but only one 'truth'. Generally, it's not practical to eliminate the impossible. My point was that just because you have eliminated a few impossibilities, it doesn't mean the remaining possibility must be the right one. It could be, but it might be something that you haven't even considered.
@irritablerodent Certainly I agree with what you say, but it is still a useful logic because one can eliminate all likely scenarios and then focus gradually on more and more unlikely possibilities until the truth is arrived at. It is useful in that sense as a problem solving algorithm.
@CngDelta757 It depends on what airline you are flying on with the 787 as they have the option to use either Rolls Royce engines, or General Electric.
@ThePeacefulResistor Hey a few drops of water in a tube brought down a $2 billion B-2 bomber, and they probably spent millions just cleaning up and disposing the toxic/secret wreckage.
Oh the irony, it was the Computer's inhumanly smooth and consistent flying that allowed the ice to accumulate.
The machine was TOO GOOD! So good that the fuel system actually depended on rough human handling, varying fuel pressure to shake ice free periodically.
@acenace24 having them stick out like that will greatly increase the ease of manufacturing, and they did that because they didn't know it would create an issue with the ice.
@acenace24 Using the benefit of hindsight to criticize something or someone... very foolish. Next time gather a well informed opinion, leave out hindsight, then levy an opinion.
Fact: Rolls Royce has one of the best records for building highest quality engines in the world, they are simply among the best, whether they are in a car or an air craft.
That being said I highly doubt there was any unacceptable incompetence or stupidly by Rolls Royce.
Exellent video. So happy I can watch this serie online at Youtube! I think it will take weeks for NGC to air this in The Netherlands! Thank you for uploading.
Fuel Lines + Fuel Ice Buildup = Fuel Cholesterol = Fuel Blockage = Engine 'Stroke' or Engine Infarction

My first reaction to the protruding pipes... what a peculiar design... and presto... that was the reason.

What was the point of the protruding tubes?

Admirable, but did it really take millions and over a year for a team of experts to figure out that increasing flow might wash the ice downstream?

@malamagr If you're so smart go work for them and save taxpayers money otherwise shut the hell up.

(10:40) that's not the Achilles heel of B777, that's Achilles heel of Rolls Royce.
Correct that statement Mr.Narrator!
