This is a good tool for things like grout removal. Buy the cheaper version if you can, it probably works as well and the included blades with this kit are not that durable or tough, you would at least have to buy the diamond blade for grout removal. That said, better quality blades that are compatible can be found elsewhere. Also great for drywall removal, wood flush cuts, etc. You will find that this tool is more useful than it seems at first. It's the odd-job cutter.
I looked at these to do some tile removal and found that Amazon and Harbor Freight both had cheap versions of this tool that were rated well in the reviews, with people claiming to not see the difference between these and the much more expensive Fein and other major tool brand-name versions. So I motored on down to Harbor Freight and bought this exact same one. Use a coupon, I paid $59.99 for this same kit but I could have probably got a similar tool for $19.99 with a coupon that I already had.
interesting tool, still trying to figure what I would use it for, as I have a rotozip which can remove grout, still seems like a handy tool just to have around..
i wanna buy one of these but don't really know what to use it on, thanks for this, i might get one for small branches now as others have used it for them
@ACoustaDC I think it was just on sale recently. It does a number of things really well. For the things I've used it for, it save a lot of time had I to do it by hand.
My son and I bought a house that needed torn down to the studs. As novices we got to doorways, windows, that we cut out with this tool.. A little dusty but a perfect fit with little measuring, in less time. Little pieces of wood that we did not want to hammer out and this little tool was the star of our show. Even after, rroom after room of drywall dust, it is still keeping on. I suggest for large projects you buy an extra set of blades, this tool comes in handy more times than not.
how much of an advantage is the variable speed function? I'll probably want to use it for cutting drywall, some ABS pipe, and possibly scraping thin set off the floor (after rip out some tile). Variable speed needed for those things? The single speed on is only $29.99 with the coupon that always comes in the Popular Science/Mechanics mags (and others).
@DaZoneRanger I cut through most woods like 3/4" maple and other hardwoods on level 4 or 5. I do a lot of sanding with it and probably set it around 2 or 3. For me, the variable speed was important because I use it a lot. For your use, the single speed would work great. This is a great little tool. I don't know how buzzy the standard speed model is. My variable speed does get a little raucous on the highest setting.
Just an update, I used this to refinish a 1920's Depression Era table and it really worked great. Then used it to sand my door trim for painting. Holding up very well and now that it is broken in, it's very comfortable in hand.
I own several versions of this model, it's excellent quality for the price. I also own the red colored single speed version. And as a matter of fact I own the Fein as well. I recommend Harbor Freight to anyone needing such a tool. It can be used in so many ways. The saw attachment iswonderful for trimming twigs right up to the trunk of the tree, I'm talking perfect flush, in a matter of weeks the tree grows bark over the cut branch. The carbide grinding blade can grind down concrete.
@Thetruthishere11 Its a multi-tool, it can be used for whatever you want to use it for. There are many attachments for wood, plastic, etc. A chisel won't work for removing one course, the grout has to be cut, or I would have cracked the tile above it. This was for a granite installation.
i always wondered how that worked, good review, worth the price, works great, Fein has good tools but for the homeowner, that one you have works comparable! good stuff !
@Wallabydam I've used this thing for this kitchen remodel I mentioned, it works fantastic. I saw a new Dremel tool that is similar, the attachment pieces are unbelieveably expensive. I'm using it now on a dining table I'm restoring, gets into all those tight spots.
it has a soft start so the moter will not get messed up

Harbor Freight should be in Belgium too. We don't have such stores with cheap must haves.

Would work better if the blade was not installed up side down.

@dirtdigger98 It actually doesn't work any better with the blade on the correct way as the diamond stone is non-directional.
