Thank you sooooo much for an outstanding video tribute to the magnificent Steve McQueen. You did a great job and I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks again!
A couple of years ago, my maw asked me to give her a lift somewhere. It was March 24th. I showed up in my supercharged V6 Olds LSS. It was remarkably warm and I had the heat cranked up and all the windows down as well as the sun-roof open.
I was sporting jeans, a turtle-neck and a brown leather jacket (from HongKong, I may add).
I reckon Steve would have liked The Smiths` "The Queen is Dead" or Echo and the Bunnymen`s "Heaven Up Here" - naturally cool and dramatic sounds. Steve was the real thing. Enriches planet Earth.
I hope people who knew Steve or people who can remember when he was alive and grew up with him being in the movies know that there are kids who were born well after he died that love him!! Sometimes it annoys me when people are like "kids grow up these days with pretty boy movie stars like Brad Pitt, and movies are full of CGI and they don't understand true stars" True a lot of teenagers look up to modern stars and know very little about stars such as Mcqueen - but I always big him up. Love him
@MrGreenday34 I know!! Everyone's always like "But he died in 1980, he'd be 80 now, it's just weird!" It most certainly isn't :D (btw I've changed my username from "charlottesmedley" to this just to push through my love for this guy :P)
@SteveMcqFan yeah i have allot steve mcqueen acc this is than a acc to show my love for Greenday i have a Steve McQueen dvd collection i,m 16 btw and you
@MrGreenday34 This is weird I'm also 15 and have numerous collections and posters etc. Everyone always asks me who he is, and it drives me insane!! Its so sad that he died so young... I wish I could of met him :(
@charlottesmedley me too he,s the best i wish somebody in my neightbourhood love him as much as i do but they always watching like wtf 1980 died that old man its just so stupid they only watch tom cruise or brad pitt witch are only pretty face,s steve was beyond that:D
@MrGreenday34@devilknowsyou I was also born after he died, I watched him in the Great Escape when I was 8 and I didn't know his name I just remember thinking "he is amazing!" ever since he has been my favourite actor of all time and there is no one like him today. I'm a teenage girl, and people like Zac Efron etc etc do absolutely nothing for me, I think my standards are higher with actors, since watching Mcqueen. My friends don't get me, but I don't care. He is an Icon.
@charlottesmedley same with me wow i can rly find me in you xD very its so hard to disgust with someone about McQueen they say who is that i,m 15 now i have a collection of him at home he is the greatest actor who ever owned the screen:D
steve mcqueen will life in my heart till i die myself and i hope if i die i can meet him its so hard for me i never had the change to meet him because i was born after he died its just the king of cool he was him self not a wannebe or just a pretty face he was simply Steve McQueen a true king of cool
immortality is word to describe life of mc queen put it all in little time steve knew repper was looking for um every day few men live life like every day may be last steve gave us feeling of being on edge of life a way of life can make u fame and fortune but also brings u down sooner boggie gleason and now cruze and downey jr. immortality we all feel it some live it..........
best actor who ever lifed in this world RIP McQueen i hope you acting in heaven and when i come there if i come there i can enjoy your performance for ever
I agree with SharkysMachine. Steve McQueens' ultimate cool is a impossibilty in movies today. He is every mans' wish to be like and every womans' fantasy of what a real man should be. He was also a wonderful father according to his son Chad. His acting ability was very much simply Steve being himself in a western, drama or action movie. He demanded and enjoyed perfection in every skill he needed to learn from riding horses.bikes etc. I'm so glad he did live everyday to the fullest.
Ditto to those with wonderful words of an awesome and the world's coolest man ever. He was one of a kind, and they sure don't make em like that anymore. After all he was, the coolest one of a kind :) I love you Steve RIP
Can't believe he's dead 30 years this November....and I think even if he was still living....he'd be the Coolest 80 year old Dude around....Hands down...
I just watch this combination of music to art over and over. I agree about Mark Harmon is our today Steve McQueen. Lucky Mindy! Ok- Lucky SueEllenDear because her Paul is pretty cool too! I love Steve McQueen, the tough but can be sensitive kind of man. A man that encourages vulnerability and strength in women.
One of those lovely, rare, occasions when wanker anonymous YTubers leave no crap comments. Steve speaks for itself. Enormous. Ashes were put in the Pacific, nothing remains, now that`s cool.
McQueens short-cut to star success was unquestionably the gay casting couch. His pedastry on the "Magnificent Seven" set alone, is something of Hollywood legend. He remains today an enduring icon for 'cool' Metrosexual males imprisoned in the barbed wire of their own ambivalent masculinity.
Chuck Norris could kick Steve McQueen's ass. Too bad Norris couldn't catch McQueen's Mustang in that slow ass Dodge Ram he's got. McQueen is the essence of cool.
No one like him before, or since....stars of today are pampered pretty boys, and not real MEN. They couldn't hold his jock strap. Just one, bad, CAT....
Steve McQueen was cool. That is it. He didn't need tattoos all over his body, he didn't need carefully crafted facial hair, he didn't need a fashion consultant, he didn't need to pose, he didn't need props, he didn't need a group of guys to tell him how great he was. No entourage, not tough guy talk, no bragging, no nothing. He was just cool, period.
@SuperPumpaction-Somewhere I read that McQueen did a better job with the jump then the stuntman so he made the jumps. As for the bike- It is popular belief that it is a 1961 Triumph .
@urparanoia I once read a biography on Stevie: McQueen wanted to do the jump himself, but the studio or whatnot wouldn't let him, so they used a stuntman. McQueen was so pissed about this that he took off with the bike and made the jump, just to show them. So the footage in the movie was a stuntman, but McQueen DID the jump nonetheless. And it was a Triumph 650 indeed! RIP STEVE, you are missed by us all!!
@devilknowsyou -Thanks so much for the info. Steve McQueen was one of a kind who was truly capable of walking the walk. He was so much more then a actor. Be well my friend.
@SuperPumpaction The actual jump was performed by his good friend and stunt double Bud Ekins, (they wouldn't let McQueen do the jump "just in case") the motorcyle is a Triumph disguised as a military BMW.
@SharkyssMachine I agree with you... Steve's screen persona was cool - I would like to be any one of Steve's on-screen characters... Sadly IRL, even Steve wasn't as cool as he pretended. But somehow his flaws make him not only more human but also more likeable. Steve was indeed a great guy! He was a hero to me because of the way he lived life - on the edge and full throttle all the way! TY - Rob

i,m just 15 but i love mcqueen so much he is just such a cool man how he talks how he acted looks he does everything is cool an that man i will never love a actor as much as mcqueen he is the best and a legend a LEGEND the one and only KING OF COOL
Man, your comment restores my hope in future generations. It is because of people like you that are open-minded to the great actors/musicians/ artists of the past that makes them immortal. I also "discovered" Stevie when I was about 15 and believe me, his movies kind of grow with you and you will appreciate different aspects the older you get. If you haven't already check out "Tom Horn" I think it is his best role ever. Be well and have a great start in 2011.
@devilknowsyou ty it begin with me with the great escape that role was just great i mean i like movies some new ones are cool too but the best movie,s are in my opinion Steve McQueen(best acor ever) charles bronson(my second favorite) marlon brando and clint eastwood,s great too you know now its just all about the special effects and stuntmans mcqueen did al his own stunts and on his on way he owned the screen now its just nothing anymore you have a great 2011 too i hope its better than 2010xD
@SharkyssMachine Yep, that's it. No one's even close. Someone told me Jeff Bridges is going to play Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne) in a remake of True Grit. That's a stretch, hell.. while they're at it they.might as well get Brad Pitt and have him play Bogart in a remake of Casablanca
"Thanks. This means more to me than any f#$*ing Oscar", Steve McQueen on receiving his award for American Sports Car Club rookie of the year. Real deal.
I have seen this video so many times that I know every word by heart.
I mentioned that Steve McQueen didn't waste words and didn't waste movement either. Notice how he has a "signature" move with his shoulders? He is so great that he can be so subtle. God, I love this man.
In 1947, McQueen joined the United States Marine Corps and was quickly promoted to Private First Class and assigned to an armored unit.[5] Initially, he reverted to his prior rebelliousness, and as a result was demoted to private seven times. He went UA (unauthorized absence) by failing to return after a weekend pass had expired. He instead stayed away with a girlfriend for two weeks, until the shore patrol caught him. He resisted arrest and as a result spent 41 days in the brig.[5]
After this, McQueen resolved to focus his energies on self-improvement and embraced the Marines' discipline. He saved the lives of five other Marines during an Arctic exercise, pulling them from a tank before it broke through ice into the sea.[5] He was also assigned to an honor guard responsible for guarding then-U.S. President Harry Truman's yacht.[5] McQueen served until 1950 when he was honorably discharged.
WOW! Thanks a lot gas! I did not know any of this. Demoted to private seven times!? That's "our" Steve. I love him even more WHAT! He guarded President Truman's yacht. Saving five other Marines. That is just it. He was the real deal not a stupid knucklehead phony running around on film now.
I am going to do a search on this part of his life.
did you look on wikipedia alot of information of him there alright i have a sort of docu of him alright i think you gett the info tomorrow or the day after iam sorry iam dutch and not a great star in english :)
Your english is great. I cannot get enough of Steve McQueen. He is so handsome, cool, male, talented, funny and what a master of the car and bike. The WHOLE package.
I LOVE YOU STEVE!!! when i found out you were dead i cried my heart out. you will be in my heart forever xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
Not once did I get the impression he was "acting". He became the man he was portraying. Awesome.
My first remembrance of him was the TV show, "wanted dead or alive". It was a great western and Steve played a bounty hunter with a heart. It is now available from netflix but I have never found it on rental store shelves as yet.
dude your SAY what i wanted to say wanted dead or alive with josh randal was my first thing i saw from him to and in the first 10min i thought man what a actor and i bought more of his movies and i never thought what a bad movie every movie he played was great just great the gettaway and the great escape and not to forget bullit were one of the best movies of all time
guys dont talk about where you can get the song of its spam or not talk about mcqueen and the most inportant thing dont mess with him because you mess with him you mess with al of uss
One movie he was in I will never forget was when he rescued Natalie Wood (she was single gal in trouble)from the creepy abortionist. He was so valiant...great actor. Even in his last movie about Tom Horn. He had great physical presence and didnt ever ever ham it up..
Someone asked where you could download the song, and I answered that you could get it on itunes. So then someone marks my post as spam? I was answering the guy's question!
dude.......if you like this song....may I recommend you watch the movie....."The Tao of Steve".......one of the biggest surprises in terms of movies I have ever seen......check it out
Bar from my dad Steve Mc Queen is the coolest man I have ever seen " the coolest man you have ever seen " cooler than I could ever be !

It was March 24 and remarkably warm here in Canada.

Real deal.
guts067 1 year ago
Movie stars today are so lame in comparison. Steve would slap the shit out of Tom Cruise for jumping on Oprah's couch.

I have seen this video so many times that I know every word by heart.
I mentioned that Steve McQueen didn't waste words and didn't waste movement either. Notice how he has a "signature" move with his shoulders? He is so great that he can be so subtle. God, I love this man.

It's Steve McQueen's world, we're just living in it. RIP Steve. We love you.

Steve was a Marine Tom Cruise could never be a marine! Steve was and still is the MAN!!!
gasripper2 2 years ago 3
@gasripper2
You are so right. Tom Cruise a marine? That is a joke. Do you know anything else about his time in the marines?
I think Steve McQueen is the ONLY man! I love the guy.
evangeline01000 2 years ago
In 1947, McQueen joined the United States Marine Corps and was quickly promoted to Private First Class and assigned to an armored unit.[5] Initially, he reverted to his prior rebelliousness, and as a result was demoted to private seven times. He went UA (unauthorized absence) by failing to return after a weekend pass had expired. He instead stayed away with a girlfriend for two weeks, until the shore patrol caught him. He resisted arrest and as a result spent 41 days in the brig.[5]
gasripper2 2 years ago
After this, McQueen resolved to focus his energies on self-improvement and embraced the Marines' discipline. He saved the lives of five other Marines during an Arctic exercise, pulling them from a tank before it broke through ice into the sea.[5] He was also assigned to an honor guard responsible for guarding then-U.S. President Harry Truman's yacht.[5] McQueen served until 1950 when he was honorably discharged.

@gasripper2
Thanks!

Hi,
I love Steve McQueen. Tom Cruise and those guys are little boys compared to Steve. He was a man and not macho either. Didn't have to be.
He let his actions be his lines in his films. He wasn't constantly jabbering on and on. Just a look was enough to say what needed to be said.
The most handsome man ever.

The king of cool.
Every character he played was enjoyable.
