Hartnell passed from heart failure, Troughton and Pertwee from heart attacks. But you know what? I say they didn't die. None of them. They were all Time Lords! More than capable to survive silly human maladies and injuries! They just hopped away, each in their own TARDIS, and flew away for a while. No, they can't be dead. They'll be back. I mean, they all had two hearts. They had more than enough life, love and laughter to supply the whole planet with it for years and years to come.
not to sound disengenuous or anything bcos it is a tragedy Pertwee is no longer with us (jesus Sladen and Courtney are gone too the UNIT years are slipping away) but these reporters need their facts straight, Pertwee didn't 'launch't he show it'd been around nearly 10 yr when he came along and he was the DOCTOR not Dr who. (also a side note but he was mostly on earth not in space during his tenure)
@TheLairOfRockwhales no im not saying that was bad i liked that too i just meant the reporter got his facts wrong bcos Pertwee wasn't usually jetting off around space
That's the way it is and always will be. You can't really explain to people ' Doctor Who is the name of the show, not the name of the hero, except that time in The War Machines and a couple of slightly more ambiguous occasions, one of them in German and of course the end titles up to Season 18 and again in Christopher Eccleston's 2005 season. Am I making myself clear?' every time they call him Doctor Who. Well, I suppose you could but it'd take up a lot of time.
Jon Pertwee & Patrick Troughton have got to have the best legacys out of all the Doctors ever and there legacys will live on forever thought out space and time!
R.I.P Jon... As well as the recent deaths of some of our other favorite Doctor Who character actors...
R.I.P. Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart (actor Nicolas Courtney - decease early 2011) Sarah Jane Smith (actress Elizabeth Sladen - deceased mid 2011) and 4th Doctor (actor Tom Baker - deceased mid 2013) we miss each of you dearly!!
Long live Dr. Who... and good old fashioned time travel...
I actually remember Jim Waley (the newsreader) saying this on Channel 9's Nightline in 1996, I was 18 and I cried like a little kid, Jon Pertwee will always be a legend.
I'm glad this was announced in America because it's a known practice that we here do not hear of English actors deaths unless they were really important actors. Last year Both Karl Malden and Mollie Sudgen died the same day. The news talked about Karl, nothing about Mollie who was few months after Wendy Richard. I only stumbled on google to find out about John Inman also last year but he'd died 2-3 yrs prior. I had to tell my friends that most of the cast of Are you being served is dead
If the first three actors that played the doctor were still alive and in good health I would like to seen them do a doctor who episode with all the dcotors
@Jamescs007 They recast the First Doctor for The Five Doctors in 1983... It would be an option for a massive multi Doctor story... but I think not... More likely if they did do something like that, would be using old footage... ala Trouble with Tribbles in Star Trek.
He was a dear and joyous man. I was lucky enough to meet him twice at conventions, and got a hug at the second one! World-class hugger. What a shame he didn't live long enough to see the legacy of DW continue.
We went to a doctor who convention and him and his assistant Jo where there, he gave my sister a kiss on the cheek and shuck my hand, he comes across as a geniune person in his shows and interviews.
Katy Manning speaks very highly of Jon Pertwee and the years they spent working together. She never mentioned that he was rude or selfish - indeed, she said he was extremely kind and helpful to her as a struggling young actress in such an iconic show.
Aww that'll be nice. I never really saw him in Doctor Who on tv only in repeats & I thought he was good. When I was still at school my mum & dad took me to the theatre in Aberdeen as there was a stage show of DW and Jon Pertwee was in it - it was VERY good :D
Yes, I remember thinking how odd that was when I saw the report "on the day". What are the odds a reporter named Colin Baker would report on the death of Jon Pertwee...
damn right you get an actor who played the Doctor to report this.
