Indy cars should be design by Ferrari, Dallara is a mediocre constructor , and they have very low safety standards, if You don't believe this , look at the accident that took a life last year at vegas. Indy cars are about 20 years behind f1 in safety.
Indy cars was awesome not they look like something build for my grandma to drive in . You should have change the music though doesn't fit the cars put some Heavy metal to it no techno crap
I remember a time when Indy cars compete in performance and style with the Formula One cars. The breach is now so big, although much of the components that make formula one cars are make here in the USA.
@Joescuderia I remember a time when you could actually overtake in Formula 1, now a days it's just follow the leader and be polite every race. Bunch of crap racing other than the awesome tracks they go to.
I am a Formula 1and Indycar fan although I am 14 years old if I would compare the 90's Formula 1 cars and the 90's Indycar's I would say the Indycar's were better looking
Champcars from Reynard, Lola, Penske, etc were so beautiful.... bring back CART!!!! This current Indycar is absolute rubbish with their lethal 'flying' Dallara.
@erasetoimprove yeah I know but now we have the fucking dogshit ugly Dallara turdbox 2.0. The worst fucking looking race car ever, let's hope this Dallara spec series doesn't last more than 1 year.
@Lock007i I actually like how it looks.... but the spec series IS only lasting 1 more year because in 2013 the other body kits will be here. Seems like everyone and their mama is ignoring that fact for whatever reason. The only thing I don't like about the new body is at some angles it looks odd, but at most angles it's a big improvement over that year - not to mention a lot safer.
Well, Its kinda the same with F1: from 1992-1994/1995 they were good lookin, then 1995-1998 they looked a little better, then 1998-2005 they looked absolutly Beautiful, then 2005-2008 The cars started to get uglier because of small aerodynamic winglets all over the chassi, then 2009- The cars became the ugly as shit "lawnmovers" we have today.
GAWD... those Reynards were just plain sexy....the CRAPWAGONS of today need tossed in the can. Get the TURBO 900 Hp fire breathing asphalt chewing bullets back on the track, and CAN BARNHART!!! woosie
I agree, however I think the 90's had better looking sports cars overall than today. I think design concepts and trends are heading toward a better 'decade' from 10-20 of looks than 00-10.. Honestly I think many things suffered compared to the 90's, in 00-10.. Music among them,.. again I think things go in patterns, with perhaps, 2010-2020 being a good period.
Also the Chip Ganassi Reynards of Vasser and Zanardi in 97 were perfection...sleek and fast., with killer looks. I was in heaven when I saw them at the Gold Coast and got to visit them in the pits
Champ Car was fantastic. The title fight between Franchitti and Montoya in 99 was the climax, it went down from there. RIP Champ Car, you were a pleasure to watch.
Wow, Look!! Spectators in the grandstands!! Champcar was at its peak in the late 90's. Got to Love Indy 500, Love Champcar...Hope Indycar can get some REAL coverage. Bring back Gary Gaerold and Parker Johnstone to call the races! Gods of Speed, bless American Open Wheel Racing.. Pllleeeeeaaasse! Gods, if you can hear me,, HELP!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
no then they were called champ car, indycars we're created when the series was split and indycar is again one and today have more of an f-1 look and look great!
You should be thankful that CART used the hansford device b/c if they didn't, the competition wouldn't be as good as it was when they actually used it.
You know the only reason I dislike them is because they created dangerous pack racing. Plus it was fake action, Pruett and Unser in 95 did not need them to put on a good show.

@Marcus666Sund: To say 05 - 08 looked good & from 09 even worse is the exact opposite to my taste :-)
To my it became bad with the 04 season, when they mandated bigger engine covers and rear-wing-endplates and lowered the rear-wing IIRC.
I really liked it when you were allowed (till ~mid 1994) to run the cars as low to the ground as possible and the floor was full width till it's end.
2009 was ugly, too, but the bigger cars since 2010 thanks to the bigger tanks look better again.

I think the indycars of the 60s and 70s looked MUCH better.

I couldn't agree more with you on this, especially from 90-95. Those cars were so cool looking on the track.
That was one thing Cart was better at than the current Indy Car Series, having cars that were very sleek and stylish on the track.

Very nice and elegant Cars in the 90´s from Reynard, Lola, Penske, etc. the actual IRL cars are so ugly the 2009 F1 generation too
brixxer99 2 years ago 12
It is a bit "normal": the indycar now have strick limit on the wings so the car go slowler... And have more downforce. Also, they are a lots cheaper.
But, you know, some car was not that elegant, I mean look at 1:15
