Sorry, just gotta say, this is simply one of those under rated MASTERPIECES OF HARD ROCK HISTORY. Not just the music. The themes are of such a serious nature. Im sorry, but Rob knew a thing or two about the difference between strong character and being a sucker. New about what being a REAL rebel meant. Unlike these tatoed pierced pretend badasses that live with thier mommy and shit. LOL. Damn, Priest kicked metal ass.
to finish ,,my last post ill put it here,,hawkwind was an early 70s space metal band with lemmy before he formed motorhead, and wishbone ash helped to make the twin guitar a part of hard rock and heavy metal,,then you have UFO who judas priest was heavily influenced by in the early days,as a matter of fact if you listen to queen of the deep by UFO from 1974 you can hear the influence it had on run of the mill by priest also in 74,,try the bands budgie and black widow and amon dull II
its too hard for anybody to say who the true first metal band is,considering it was a form of music many people in late 60s early 70s england wanted from the start, everybody had a sample of metal even before metal was metal for instance the beatles helter skelter was pure metal so was the sonics version of louie louie, sounded almost more metal than motorheads version,we also can not forget about lucifers friend in 1970,along with led zeppelins immigrant song
its songs like these that people need to listen to so they can know what real metal's all about! even though i like listening to raw fucking heavy metal, you need songs like these to really appreciate the band, which most bands dont have now days, they think all you need is distortion, speed, and random solos like Slayer (no offense). plus alot lot of the best songs from my favorite bands have cleans in 'em...and good compositions...and badass solos...AND are still heavy!
Black Sabbath is Not the true first heavy metal band. Judas Priest is. Led and Sabbath were both totally steeped in 60's blues/jam songs to be true metal. Sure, Sabbath had the first metal Tone. But Priest had Everything we consider metal today, back during this album, written during 1972-73. Twin guitars, harmonies, not much in the way of blues scales, well thought out compositions (not jams), lightning fast solos, high vocals, galloping riffs, its all there. Think about it!!
Rob uses his voice kinda goofy in a few parts of Island of Domination, but it is still a very bad ASS song! I love their songwritting on their older stuff!
