actually YOU are wrong.. I am typing on living proof of this. It ran at like 15-20 fps and less. you need at least 30 fps to enjoy a game like this

@staplerjm not really, 20 FPS is enough for most games. You can't really expect that much for a laptop tbh. Under 15 FPS is what you would called unplayble. I'm sure the 8600M GT would be capable of playing this at 30FPS anyways. just turn a few settings down, it still looks as good.

ive tried it myself and its playable at 30fps.

I overclocked my 2.2ghz dual core, also overclocked my video card and installed modified desktop drivers for more performance. Added in 2 more gb of ram toget 4gb then changed my harddisk to a faster 7200 rpm one. Optimized my Os to be faster by disabling alot of things and putting everything to the very basic. Doubled my virtualmem/pagefil. And got 30fps in this game

you can add the ram to your graphic card over comand line (which is not standard of GTA IV) but the game get slaw even when everything is low..

you need graphic memory "GDR3" or 512MB or 1GB DDR2 of video memory...

Ram memory cant be used for graphic memory even if my ram memory is faster than video memory... it gets slow...

smooth116 - it should work on "low" for you... but I have to say that shadows on low is worse than "play station 1"!

I think if you have above "3500 3DMark Benchmark" it should go... There is no use of turbo-cache in GTA IV...

Depends on what type of 8600m the laptop has. GT, GS? don't remember there is a m vesion only. I think it does. Pay attention at the clockspeed of the card it has. the 2gb ram is good enough and the processor is also nice.

Nice vid......Y know I honestly feel to run gta 4 smoothly on higher settings u need a quad core processor......the gpu s not handling everything in this game....some aspects of this game s engine are better handled by a quad.Also its a pity that game makers dont care about pc gamers anymore.......if microsoft was not in the console industry we d hve a lot more games out on the pc a the moment.Also its depressing that a gpu gets put dated so quickly....a 9600 gt s nothing a year from now..!

I didn't know what brand it was. I think you can play teh game with all low settings but you will have problems, like in some moments the game will run very very slow. If you get 1GBRAM more, maybe it will be more playable, but you will not get good results.

I'm getting ready to buy my lap but I forgot if you had a XPS 1530 or other? I am also looking at an ATI lap with the 3650 that is said to be good for gaming. I tell you what, it sure is confusing with all the numbers that don't really mean anything and Ms and GS GT GTX and stuff. The 3650 is not very good for gaming. the DDR3 edition is comparable to the 9500GT DDR2.

Go for a 4670 if you got 80€, or a 4650 for a bit less.

how do i enhance my frames per second? i have currently only 8.66fps... I benchmarked and i noticed it is caused by my video card, because it was like 100% in usage and all my other hardware only for 60%.

I dont really understand this because i have a Nvidia 8600M GT 512MB with driver version 1.79 (almost the latest driver version possible)

But if you run the game on a fresh new copy of XP, you will get ~25 FPS (with most settings on low).

But i recomend, do not blame your sistem, blame the game. They did such a terrible job.

Some people have both operating systems, and they work on Vista, but they play games on XP (XP is a less demanding os). So you can try that, having two OS.

But this will only make the game run a little bit better. Don't expect 100FPS! :)

Having the same card doesn't mean same performance. You need to check your other specs which can either aid or slow down your performance.
