While respecting Hickok's Chanel and this Vid... Have the same Dillon tumbler & spent time on phone with them, re brass cleaning/capacity 4 pistol brass. They rec running it ca. 1 1/2 - 2" below bowl rim with media & brass in it. As far as polish goes, while have experimented with the popular "NuFinish" & Mineral Spirits, have stuck with Dillon's "Rapid Polish 290" {Hereinafter & Forever called "Polish" ! } Stuff really does last and only one capful recharges a full load of 2K 9mm.
how long can you store dirty/range brass in a sealed container compared the clean brass in a sealed container. I dont reload yet, probably wont for a couple more years but i already started to recently collect my brass and separate it.
#1 reason to clean brass is that cleaner brass makes loading dies last longer and it is less damaging to chambers. . .a little grit can do alot of damage.
can someone please tell me if i need to resize my .45 acp brass after every time it has been fired. i am still deciding if i should get into reloading and would like to know how labor intensive it is.
lmao Graboids if you know what i mean ....i have watched the other hand loading video's and i looked on Dillon's website and this one let me pick if i wanted to get the shaker, and the whole kit and caboodle and it's about $1,500 i think it's cool so im gunna save up wait till i turn 21 and start doing this stuff thanks your my idol
Most important part of anyone's reloading room is up on your wall. I find it to be almost impossible to reload without a Dillon Calender on the wall. The guns are very pretty to look at.
wow i didnt know you did a series on this! great.. listen in one of my manuals " lee " it says not to use reloaded ammo in glocks.. is this true?? they say the chamber is not supported. due to the ramp feed.. all i have is a glock and i just bought a press.. i feel pretty dumb as i should have searched this first. "noob.. thanks like your vids.
I'm interested in reloading and have seen some vids.. I notice everyone cleans their brass before removing the spent primer... and the primer pocket remains dirty and you have to use a brush to clean it.. do you think it would be effective to remove the primer then vibrate it, thereby cleaning the primer pocket at the same time?
@metaZen , It's a real pain to deprime before cleaning the brass - adds another step to whole process really, and the vibrating media really doesn't get the crud out of the primer pocket necessarily. Plus, when I do this, I seem to get litle pieces of the media stuck up there in the primer pocket. With pistol ammo, I rarely ever have to clean the primer pocket. I have a lot of brass, though.
do you think the dillon brass cleaner is better than say...frankford arsenal...or lyman...reason i am asking about brand names is i am on my 3rd tumbler...it's a lyman turbo ...2nd one was a lyman burned out in 2 weeks...1st one was a frankford arsenal ...quit working 2 days after i bought it...got my money back both times...no problem there but your video just has me thinkin...thanx much
Have you tried the lyman liquid turbo case cleaner? put your brass in a bowl pour in the case cleaner and let it soak 3-5 mins. I soak mine let them dry then tumble them in corn cob treated with Flitz brass poilsh for half an hour and they look new.
@hickok45 i know some guys that put there brass and media in a large plastic jug and duct tape the lid, then duct tape a towel around the jug, and then put it into a clothes dryer, set on NO heat, they usually put 3-4 extra towels in the dryer to keep the jug from thumping around, let in run for 45 min to an hour, works good i guess. Just a low budget way i suppose, but i prefer your method : )
I used ground walnut shells first, but that chemically treated LYMAN media works fast and best.
I also notched each rifle case on the rim with a tiny triangular file to track the number of loadings (notching allowed mixed batches to be tumbled) and this all but eliminated dangerous case head separations (at 52,000 lbs PSI) of my reloads. After 5 cycles I'd load the cases and when fired the last time they were junk brass and either recycled or left to lay if I didn't find them on the ground.
You have to be KIDDING ME HA HA HA HA HA Listen you hicks, hillbillies, peckerwoods and goobers, you must be backwards trailer-park TRASH to even want to think about this. YEEHAWW Jethro Bodine RIDES AGAIN! HA HA HA HA Here in the big city we have no need of your backcountry technology. We just go to the store and buy ammo. We need it to protect ourselves from thieving hicks like you. So in conclusions; HA HA You are Rubes! HA HA
actually, by making your own bullets, your shots will be a lot more accurate. military snipers don't buy ammo from winchester or remington, they have their own special guys who have presses. you can put fmj, armor piercing, hollow point; anything you name it and can control how hot you want the bullet to be by the amount of grains in your powder. and for the record, im a city boy who does this.
Dingledork if you don't reload then you're a firearm n00B. No matter how many guns one owns if you don't handload your ammo you have a superficial understanding of shooting and need to STFU.
Funny how reloading will make you brass crazy. I went to the range early on Saturday, had the range all to my self. As I walked up to put up my targets I realised that the snowy ground was littered with once-fired 9mm cartridges from the ISPS training the day before. I came home about 2200 cartridges richer, but with a very sore back ;-)
You are right...I have started shooting my wheel guns rather then my 1911's so I do not loose my brass.. Reloading makes you crazy... Maybe this is the reason S&W revolvers have gotten so pricey.
@carolinadare Maybe, I love my S&W 686. Shoots double action only. The funny thing is that if I spend 60 rounds with my revolver, then I have 60 empty cartridges when I get home. If I shoot 60 rounds with my 1911, I usually come home with way more cartridges than what I brought with me, and a sore back that is. ;-)
You are lucky to get more 45 brass then what you came with.. I shoot with a lot of older guys who have been reloading a lot longer than me and they keep their brass..all the young guys shoot 40 and 9 mm.. I really do not shoot 9mm..and I have like 10,000 40 brass..I seem to always need 45 brass..
I have a rcbs tumbler and talk about noisy, i turn it on when i leave the house to go grocery shopping. It will drive you nuts if your in the house when it vibrates....
can someone please fill me in... i dont understand what happens inside that vibrator bucket. how does the brass actually get cleaned and how do you seperate the brass from the medium?
The vibration cleans it. You can just dump it out in a bucket or fish it out with your hands and separate the brass from the media. I have a case separator that Dillon sells. I works great, but you don't have to have it. I'll demonstrate it in another video.
@nomadkrazy To get more technical about it and maybe help you understand better, the friction of the media against the casings when they vibrate with rub the casings clean. Basically since they are all in the bucket together when it vibrates the media is scrubbing the casings in a way.
Do you find reloading cost effective? I ask because the cost of powder, primers etc. and the work involved just seems to be expensive more so than just buying a box of shells.
Haha graboids was my first thought when I saw it. I know you said you can put polish in there while cleaning, but was that just sawdust in there? Will that clean the brass by itself?....Great videos by the way.
My daughter goes to the range with me she is 21 and has applied for her conceal carry permit. She used my M&P 40 and is going to be getting her first handgun soon, She was looking at a Glock 26. Would like to get you option.
Nice video. Case vibrator and cleaning media works out to aprox $200.00 plus shipping. I have fired some brass 3 times before I cleaned it. The only problem I encountered was dirty fingers.
Great video. I am ready to begin some handloading with my buddy, who has done quite a bit in the past, but not recently. We look forward to getting started. We have been procrastinating, these videos are a good motivational tool for us. Would love to see more.
Haha. Hickok, you and I think so much alike sometimes. Seriously as you were starting your video and saying your hello, my first thought was, "that's what attracted the graboids in tremors." Good thing you are armed just about as good as Reba was in that movie!
Yep, that's why you all should be sending me a medal of some sort! After all, I gave up hot women just to make these videos for you fellow shooters! :-) Quite a sacrifice, don't you think. :-)
I rarely clean the primer pocket ever - just never have problem with that. There's a tool for that, OR you can deprime the cases before vibrating them, which is a pain if you're doing large volumes.
Still works! My grandfather got it during the Battle of the Bulge. His friend and him were off duty at the time, and they were supposed to bring back fresh meat for the camp. My grandfather's friend was about to shoot a deer when he shot his gun off to make the deer run. Then, 2 German officers came out with their hands up and a white flag! Lucky coincidence, huh?
IMO, cleaning it removes history. I would not clean it at all. I would consider it a collectors piece. Maybe just wipe it down and put light coat of CLP to prevent rust.
Tremos reference ? You never cease to amaze Hickok45!

@HuxxNL ,
Yep, that's why you all should be sending me a medal of some sort! After all, I gave up hot women just to make these videos for you fellow shooters! :-) Quite a sacrifice, don't you think. :-)

How does that do for cleaning the primers seats? (not sure what it's called, but the place where the primer goes).
burky417 1 year ago
@burky417 ,
I rarely clean the primer pocket ever - just never have problem with that. There's a tool for that, OR you can deprime the cases before vibrating them, which is a pain if you're doing large volumes.

Hickok45, My grandpop has a Luger that was an Officers pistol in wwii. How could i clean this? I'm not used to cleaning old guns.
XKfeildX 1 year ago
@XKfeildX be careful with it. Don't want to ruin that nice piece of history. Does it still work?
Aman1212 1 year ago
Still works! My grandfather got it during the Battle of the Bulge. His friend and him were off duty at the time, and they were supposed to bring back fresh meat for the camp. My grandfather's friend was about to shoot a deer when he shot his gun off to make the deer run. Then, 2 German officers came out with their hands up and a white flag! Lucky coincidence, huh?
XKfeildX 1 year ago
@XKfeildX - You better not clean it! Grandpa will beat your ass!
Derail07 1 year ago
IMO, cleaning it removes history. I would not clean it at all. I would consider it a collectors piece. Maybe just wipe it down and put light coat of CLP to prevent rust.

Google search for 'field stripping and cleaning' Luger. You're bound to find something for your specific model.

It was a German officers pistol in WWII

Is hickock having a wife ?
HuxxNL 1 year ago
@HuxxNL ,
"having a wife"? Might need clarification on that question? Sure is hard to behave myself and keep things "G" or "PG" rated. :-)
hickok45 1 year ago
Nope, she was traded in for the million-dollar Luger.
