Microsoft looks nice, but you hear that buzzing sound. The mic always sucks, the software or hardware always sucks on webcams especially, honestly go logitech guys. They sell some good cameras for 30-50 bucks on amazon vs Microsoft which you will have to replace like I am replacing mine.
Someone please tell me! Is there ANY kind of way ANYWHERE where you can take still pictures with this camera? (Microsoft Cinema) Im going to get into stop motion but my current camera doesnt have the "best" quality and this does for reletivaley cheap. Please answer back id greatly appreciate it! :)
Hint for all Microsoft LifeCam Cinema users: Go under "Computer Management", check your camera's drivers, click the button to update it and choose "select driver by yourself". Then select the "USB Video" driver. Now download VirtualDub from Sourceforge. In the Capture mode, go under Capture Pin and switch from YUY2 streaming mode to MJPG. Now you can record 1280x720 in 30fps - if you have good light conditions (most of the time). 2,6Ghz Dual core required (CPU is around 70-90% busy)
Just pulled up your video while standing in Office Depot to help me make my decision. Went with the Microsoft cam. Thanks so much for your video! Helped tremendously :)
The video is not the main problem with the logitech Quickcam camera it is the sound. It has static distortion, which can be really bad, unless you adust your audio soundcard. The Microsoft has better sound. I'm very glad you mentioned you cannot change the sound source with the Microsoft, as I like to do direct uploads to the pc using the webcam. This info really helped.
@andranic which webcam do you recommend the best? I have watched other logitech vids and they have better resolution than this one, Ive alse read ppl having trouble with both cams on Windows 7 64 bit.
I'm a disabled person and I rely on Windows speech recognition program to operate my Windows 7 computer. I just purchased the Microsoft Lifecam and it froze the speech recognition program. The Windows speech recognition program is standard with any computer that has Windows 7. If you have Windows 7 on your computer, could you do me a favor and open your speech recognition program to see if it works with a computer that has the Logitech camera you just reviewed?
i just bought the Microsoft one and i installed it and its all blurry idk if i have to tweak it a little or its the lighting in my room please help me
i just got the micro cam but when i record the focus is always going in and out alot and i mean alot it blurs then get bac in focus so are u having the same problem do u think i just dont have enogh light where im recording @? if u can watch my video and u will see what im talking about thank you get bac plz
Thank you for the review, this is exactly the dilemma I've been in: deciding between these two cameras on dell's website.
Clearly the lifecam is overall much superior quality for the same price, however there is one issue that I have: I notice a high-pitch frequency when you are using the lifecam. The same exact problem I've noticed on all videos using this cam. I hope this problem can be resolved somehow, maybe in microphone settings?
Great picture quality BUT the motion does not look smooth at all. I can bet that if you select a lower resolution then it will be show super fastest images, which means that that webcam is not really ready for 1280x720P. I saw that crappy problem in all youtube videos reviewing this "720p" webcam.... Thanks youtube, now I know I should not buy this webcam.
No problem switching microphone on the lifecam cinema. I have a "pro" soundcard where i have a keyboard, a guitar-amp simulator and a pro microphone. I went to control-panel and switched the input - woila!!! No problem at all.
Don't know if this was already brought up, but this guy found a way to use your own microphone in the Microsoft Livecam Software. You kinda have to trick the program. He's a genius for this.

Great vid, I have a MLC now and I couldn't be happier. your review helped me out a lot, andranic.
That problem with the light happens with EVERY camera. It seems its the standard at least for now.
Maybe its the fact that the video processing is digital. So instead of "opening" the lens the pc just adds more "light" to it. So obviusly it slows down. Then again, it's a WEBCAM.

If you use Lws201 with rightsound on you dont hear any distorting. The audio on my Logitech Quickcam pro 9000 seems to sound a lot better then in this video. They also designed it to cut out background noise so talking from quite a long way from the mic doesnt help. I am sure playing with the settings would have improve it on this video. I cant judge that much on the Microsoft lifecam cinema HD as dont think I will ever own one but apparently not very easy to move about.
The sound in the too vids was also recorded with the internal microphones of the cameras respectively? The MS cam does a much better job on this topic though...

Thanks for a real review. Read one which basically said in 4 minutes, "I got this free. It works."

Can anyone Help me, I have windows xp, and of course a LifeCam Cinema 720, unfortunately the final process is to align it with a program on your desktop and every time I attempt to start it up it gives me one of those annoying error reports, I also have not been able to work on any of the Messaging things since I've gotten it, any idea's?
I notice that you have a mic setup to your right. What kind of mic is it and how much does it cost> Are there any special tech specs that one needs to install the mic you're using?

It's old yet still too expensive. The Microsoft lifecam Cinema HD gives you more bang for your buck!
I'm very happy and excited that i have bought this microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD webcam. It's one of the best webcam i have ever bought. I can't wait to get 16:9 720p video chatting on MSN Live Messenger and Skype. I was so impressed by the quality of this device that i have bought a 2nd one. The best thing to do is to get the latest Lifecam software and firmware update from the Microsoft website rather then the included CD/DVD. I highly recommend this webcam.
I just bought the microsoft lifecam cinema hd and i also have the at2020 microphone and im looking for a software to collaborate these two amazing gadgets? what software do you use?
LifeCam Cinema seems a little laggy and the 30 fps not so real.
Maybe the motion blur in the Quickcam 9000, removed by the Microsoft ClearFrame, give a more fluent illusion. What I need is a good low light quality, and the 9000 seems better. Moreover the LifeCam requires a more powerfull PC. So the LifeCam isn't better in all, depends on one own exigences. For example I don't need a large field of view, because my room is always a mess.
The only 9000's defect IMHO is the lack of side rotation.
@tipsysnake Well it really comes down to 1 thing. how fast is your machine . If you have a fast machine then the Lifecam is the way to go if the machine is a little dated then go with the Webcam pro 9000
Was this the Webcam Pro 9000 or the Quickcam 9000 pro? The reason I ask is because Logititech responded to me that the Webcam 9000 pro was upgraded to HD as the Quickcam was no longer manufactured and did not. Just curious. Thanks
Hi, You said that you were going to do a part 3 to the series about how the LifeCam worked during live feed. I was wondering how the camera is working out for you. Do you still use the LifeCam or have you gone back to the Logitech 9000?
you din't mention the crappy audio and the ultra annoying distortions of the pro 9000 even with moderately loud voices (you can hear it in your demo). so, if anyone needs clear and undistorted audio, DON'T BUY THE PRO 9000!
The colors seemed more washed out on the Logitech, but it doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is that I virtually cannot see and difference in sharpness of the picture. They appear to have the exact same resolution, the only difference being the aspect ratios.
Thx for the nice demo/review. What's the best way to edit these videos economically (I don't need fancy effects, just cutting and trimming)? I have PC w/vista and iMac with Leopard.
Did you compare it to the Newer Logitech WebCam 9000 Pro? Both settings in 1280x720 mode? I have both and definetely returning the Microsoft LifeCam, plus no "hissing pitch in the built-in mic" and somehow not sure why your logitech looks that bad - on mine its much better clearer and sharper then the lifecam, better low lighting as well, and sound no high pitch and does more!
I'm planning to purchase a Lifecam HD, but I was wondering if there's a way to take the audio recorded through the microphone out of the video, run it through Audacity, and then put it back in the video again. Cuz I don't want that static noise interfering in my video blogs I'm planning to do :p
Hello, i need some advice and please help me. 10 years ago, i bought Creative CT6840 webcam. And i am using that webcam on my guitar records. I just want to find a "fast" webcam. Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD Vs Logitech Quickcam 9000 Pro looks so slow, maybe because of light problem.
/watch?v=MBwi6n_k3Go (720 p)
/watch?v=aFz40VZ-UDw (480 p)
Please watch that examples. Lifecam or Logitech products can make fast recording like this?
Hi Andrew, the Audio sounds so much clearer with the Lifecam than the Logitech, however, have you tried the Audio on the NEWER Webcam 9000 Pro model, and not the Quickcam 9000 Pro model as featured in your video, i want to be be able to record myself at home playing piano using the built in mic for simple email videos and YouTube stuff, AUDIO is the most important criteria for me, thoughts???
Thanks for the review. I'm a bit confused, cause though yes the colors look better and sort of sharper on the LiveCam, the 9000 seems to be softer and movement looks better to me; not quite a jerky. I was hoping you'd swing your hands around more for another test! You can really see the difference in the night shot, but the day shot I think is also significant . It will be interesting to see what the latest 9000 can do.
I've bought the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema , but it was a waste of my money . If i start the lifecam , then it will tell me that my computer is to slow for HD . The logitech quickcam 9000 pro doesn't have a problem at all capturing HD !!!
i bought the microsoft Cinema HD last Friday but i can't use it 'cause i don't have internet.....so i want to download drivers for this cam.........where i can find drivers ??
guys i got the camera today btw HAPPY NEW YEAR! and the only thing i can say about webcams(and any other gadget) is what you pay is what you get(most of the time!)
Because I have compared them both. I have 2 friends with each and I have seen the difference side by side. The lifecam has better video then the pro 9000 but the mic on the pro 9000 blows away the mic on the lifecam.
LOL. Thats funny because im getting the microsoft Cinema HD this week so I will see as well. Also i've seen the difference. The Cinema HD is a lot better! Don't pay more for the pro 9000 man.
NICE QUEER :) and don't, don't don't deny it that you are gay ! :) hug :)

@fredphoesh This is because it forces a high pitched noise so that any VBR recording software records a wider range of frequencies and sounds better.

@jemunli1 I use Vidblaster Studio to do all my recording. Check out my newer review of this product

The only 9000's defect IMHO is the lack of side rotation.
lightandshadow77 1 year ago
@lightandshadow77 Take a look at the new video made . Lifecam had a firmware update . I also compared it to the webcam 9000
andranic 1 year ago
@andranic very nice comparison. Tnx a lot.

@andranic waiting for your Webcam pro 9000 comparison
can't decide which to buy: microsoft lifcam cinema or logitech orbit AF
tipsysnake 1 year ago
@tipsysnake Well it really comes down to 1 thing. how fast is your machine . If you have a fast machine then the Lifecam is the way to go if the machine is a little dated then go with the Webcam pro 9000
andranic 1 year ago
Was this the Webcam Pro 9000 or the Quickcam 9000 pro? The reason I ask is because Logititech responded to me that the Webcam 9000 pro was upgraded to HD as the Quickcam was no longer manufactured and did not. Just curious. Thanks
sqitso 1 year ago
@sqitso This was the Quickcam 9000. I have a Webcam pro 9000 and I will be making a new one comparing the Lifecam with the Webcam 9000
andranic 1 year ago
@andranic Since you have both webcam 9000 and lifecam cinema which one do you prefer?

Thanks for this video, you saved me some cash. If I can't change the audio source the camera is useless to me.

Hi, You said that you were going to do a part 3 to the series about how the LifeCam worked during live feed. I was wondering how the camera is working out for you. Do you still use the LifeCam or have you gone back to the Logitech 9000?
DreamSiren 1 year ago
you din't mention the crappy audio and the ultra annoying distortions of the pro 9000 even with moderately loud voices (you can hear it in your demo). so, if anyone needs clear and undistorted audio, DON'T BUY THE PRO 9000!
awaken69 1 year ago
Yeah this isn't a side-by side comparison...
The colors seemed more washed out on the Logitech, but it doesn't really bother me. What bothers me is that I virtually cannot see and difference in sharpness of the picture. They appear to have the exact same resolution, the only difference being the aspect ratios.
camilo101 1 year ago
what program do you use to capture and edit using the lifecam hd?

sad that you had to search for it, because the comparison is done perfectly.

The microsoft microphone sounds perfect , the Logitech microphone suck !
The microsoft video are much clear and nearly perfect maybe because it not in 1080p but logitech video suck a little more time

@mksmalls86 You need to render in 720p.

The microsoft microphone sounds with the same quality of your pro microphone. And you say built-in mics are no good.
nova1234 2 years ago
Hear that static? Its logitech 9000 junk.
2cpus4me 2 years ago
I would buy the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD if not the bleeping sound from the mic.

NilsMcCloud 2 years ago
So, the camera only supports the resolutions you mentioned in the video? But the Microsoft site says it supports:
"720p sensor captures true HD quality video at up to 30 fps."
That should be 1280 x 720 resolution, right?

Hello, i need some advice and please help me. 10 years ago, i bought Creative CT6840 webcam. And i am using that webcam on my guitar records. I just want to find a "fast" webcam. Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD Vs Logitech Quickcam 9000 Pro looks so slow, maybe because of light problem.
/watch?v=MBwi6n_k3Go (720 p)
/watch?v=aFz40VZ-UDw (480 p)
Please watch that examples. Lifecam or Logitech products can make fast recording like this?
80sRockerAltaR 2 years ago
The Lifecam gives a mich better FPS then the Logitech. Whatever camera you use in low light will drop in Frame rate .
andranic 2 years ago
Thank you very much! I dont know how i forget to write something about Fps. lol..
Some webcams are 60 fps,90 fps! (for example: Philips)
But people says that PHILIPS SPC900NC is really bad camera. Okey i'll try to buy Lifecam cinema or 720p model. Thank you so much again. :)

forgot to say, i will also be using a webcam for live streaming, so which is better, Lifecam or the Newer Webcam 9000? thanks Andrew!
Waynester1973 2 years ago
Hi Andrew, the Audio sounds so much clearer with the Lifecam than the Logitech, however, have you tried the Audio on the NEWER Webcam 9000 Pro model, and not the Quickcam 9000 Pro model as featured in your video, i want to be be able to record myself at home playing piano using the built in mic for simple email videos and YouTube stuff, AUDIO is the most important criteria for me, thoughts???
Waynester1973 2 years ago
Un grand merci pour cette Review !
Thanks a lot !!!
Berserkers11 2 years ago
Thanks for the review. I'm a bit confused, cause though yes the colors look better and sort of sharper on the LiveCam, the 9000 seems to be softer and movement looks better to me; not quite a jerky. I was hoping you'd swing your hands around more for another test! You can really see the difference in the night shot, but the day shot I think is also significant . It will be interesting to see what the latest 9000 can do.
thegallery 2 years ago
Why you drop down the volume sound from QCP9000 on this review?
Microsoft Lifecam Cinema HD uses a lot of ressources for 720p , that most of users cannot perform.
At low light QCP9000 is far better than Lifecam.

Why does the video, when using MS, have a 1000hz (or so) buzz. It drives me and my dog crazy... Is it the camera's fault?
TheDragothica 2 years ago 11
The logitech is mutch better .
I've bought the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema , but it was a waste of my money . If i start the lifecam , then it will tell me that my computer is to slow for HD . The logitech quickcam 9000 pro doesn't have a problem at all capturing HD !!!

dmvino 2 years ago
They both work well with skype.
WinLinOSX 2 years ago
Because I have compared them both. I have 2 friends with each and I have seen the difference side by side. The lifecam has better video then the pro 9000 but the mic on the pro 9000 blows away the mic on the lifecam.

Actually it isnt. The Lifecam is a lot better then the pro 9000
