marshall kills ANY other guitar amp ive ever owned. including a peavey, bugera, fender amongst others... ive got a JVM now and yes. best amp EVER. especially with a dave mustaine cab. =) marshall haters should play through one before criticising. =)
@lovesitloud how good and how much different is the Dave Mustaine cab??? I have a 1960a with the G12T75's and a 1960av with the V30's and like them both but as a HUGE megadeth fan I've always wanted to know what someone thought of the 1960dm!!!
have had this amp for a while and i love it you can do everything with it. good demo of the od channels. also really love the cleans for everything else.
Just to confirm, you have the Master volume dimed on both channels, correct. I have a glare on my screen on your pic on those knobs. Sounds great. I have the same amp with a Mesa 2x12 celestion V30's cab. It sounds great to me, but I am playing at serious low levels being I am living in a condo right now. That sucks cause I love to feel the power of this amp just electrify the air........That is half the fun for me in owning a big rig set up.
Dude, any reason why you sold the Marshall? Also, do you have the straigt or slanted Mesa Traditional cab and what do you think of that? I'm thinking of buying a JVM205head and the Trad cab?
I think at some point Hendrix used them too, Eric Clapton. Even more aggressive players like Slayer. Almost every artist has used or is still usiing Marshalls and most of the guitar sound we know is Marshall tone. I have the sense that many artists make a signature amp for a company only for the money, but they still use Marshalls in studio.
there's something funny that I don't understand well. People criticize so much the Marshall's, but then you find that almost every important gutiar player has used them but don't endorse them. In the tribute to Queen in Wembley the stage was loaded with Marshalls and we know that Metallica, Extreme, Guns'n roses use them to name a few. Even Andy Timmons, who recommends Mesa Boogie, actually used Marshalls to record in studio. Yngwie Malmsteen uses them too, Satriani is now using them.
@Rawdonguitar No you don't. The 15 year-old may have "artist support", and even that's sketchy since nobody knows who he is, but there is no such thing as a Marshall endorsement. As long as Jim has been alive, it has never happened and will never happen. Slash, who has a line with the company, doesn't have an endorsement, but your 15 year old friend does? Page, Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, Slash, Eddie VH never did...this kid must be doing some revolutionary shit.
@aibangmaini i dont care what you call it artist support or whatever he gets amps sent to him for free from marshall. I dont know about you but that is what i call an endorsement
@nossborn funny thing I, I traded it for a orange rockerverb 50 mk1 and had it for a while and then traded it for a blackstar ht100. I soon found out it was my main dirt guitar (maple neck and SS frets) that was too thin and shrill. I got a dean MSG custom (korea) and that sounds more meaty. I wonder how JVM would've sound with the dean.
@Snyper581 I bet Joe Satriani, Dave Mustaine, Kerry King, Zakk Wylde, Slash, Yngwie Malmsteen would ALL disagree because they ALL play Marshall, Satriani and Mustaine the JVM specifically!!! The reason Marshall is the most copied amp EVER is because Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton/Cream, Randy Rhoads, Blue Oyster Cult, Tony Iommi, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer WEREN'T wrong when they ALL chose and still choose MARSHALL for their tone...you're an idiot buddy, LOL!!!
Slash has both the vintage modern and silver jubilees in his live rig. I would recommend the vintage modern since you can actually buy it new. Though its never a good thing to copy someones tone exactly... just saying if thats what your looking for.
Still have the JVM but it doesn't get played that often , play moslty Fender TRRI Custom 15 with Oxfuzz, old RAT,Klon in front, even with 2 4x12's you have to stand in the right place in the room, with TRRI custom 15 the sound is the same every where in the room. Who knows what my ideal will be tommorow., as long as it is loud, I'm open for anything. got 2 4x12 mesa cab but havent tried a mesa head through it, got a mesa .50 caliber+ combo but I guess it's no where near the higher end mesas.///
@nossborn Maybe the Fender fills the room simply because it is open back while the Marshall is closed? Can you take the backs off your Marshall cabs and see how it sounds? I have a Soldano Astroverb and also a solid state Fender Princeton Chorus which (obviously) doesn't respond well to pedals. I really want to get the NOS Blues Junior for the SRV bluesy stuff.
I have the Dual Rectifier and Mesa Rectifier 4x12 cab. Clean is ok. Crunch is ok (almost get some Marshall crunch out of it). High gain setting is the best in the world. Next to God himself. God that sweet spot growl. I use 4 TAD 6L6's and 5 Tungsol Gold 12AX7's and the tone is ungodly. Guitars? Schecter C1 classic (with a buffalo bone nut replacement). Schecter C1 Hellraiser and a Gibson SG standard.
@sacrificeapprentice You have absolutely NO clue what you're talking about, lol!! the mesa is good for ONLY one thing, high gain distortion!!! In a REAL comparison the JVM eats it alive. @sacrificeapprentice you talk a big game for a guy shooting for marshall crunch out of a mesa rectifier LOLOL, that's a first!!! I would love to hear what you're putting out of your recto if you have anyway of recording it, oh, and if you want to see what the TONE KING has done since I last logged into myspace 2 YEARS AGO; go to myspaceDOTcom/lionsden_music and check out the studio the Lord's given me!!! There's a couple songs on there too so have paper and pencil ready, you may learn something
man you're talking shit....listen to metal bands like trivium or machine head...believe me they use high gain and it sounds perfect...maybe somethings wrong with your amp
I control my feedback with my Guitar volume. I want full on distortion, all it's got. At quick breaks I pull back the guitar volume. I don't get to much feedback at all anyway. We do jam in a big basement room. I think the Reverb is almost non existant. Can't tell it's on sometimes.
I'm not fast enough on the volume knob, so it's ISP G-string for me, but I can hear the beginning of the squeeling between notes, so I end up reducing gain until bearable level.
I use a ESP LTD Viper Baritone w/EMG's. Straight in. Only pedal used in the studio was a Boss Noise Suppressor to cut the hiss. It was double tracked on the left and right. 2 Guitar tracks on top of each other. All stock, no re bias, from Marshall. Used a Randall Cab w/ 4x12's. My cab at the jam spot is a Peavey w Black Widows. I want to get one of those new Randall 2x12 and 1x15 cabs. I hear they are the shit.
I've still yet to play my 70's strat on this amp. I keep the amp at the jam spot and my strat at home with a Marshall MG 50. I tend to set my Resonance and Presence at 10. More crisp with the Presence and rounded out with the Resonance on 10. I've recorded thru the DI output into Garageband and it's great there to. Emulated 4x10 cab. I drop the mids recording this way. Loud and Live I bring them up to 6. I always run OD2 RED for rhythm. OD1 RED for solos with more mids and atouch more volume.
This amp will get old Plexi tones to JCM 800's to hot rodded JCM 800's. OD2 in RED mode is hotter than any amp out there. I've played with guitarists using Line 6's, 5150's, Boogie's and Matchless. And this amp blows em up.
I like this amp too, but I've since joined a blues band and I find this amp excel in this department also, I was trying clean and crunch channel to find my blues tone with a strat, but I found that OD1 and OD2 works best & sounds amazing in green and orange with gain just enough to brake when I hit the string harder, almost as good as a super reverb with ts808 in front but a bit meaner and different from other blues guys out there. Have you tried emulating jcm 800 with reso and pres set to 0?
wow, incredible sound and playng , very heavy indeed, I have to try your settings. Is it stock 410H and no pedal in front to tighten things up? pickups? cab?cheers, Oscar
This amp rules. I own it and play death metal. Your settings sound too simular from OD1 to OD2. Can't tell them apart. Your presence is at 1. OD2 can scoop out the mids for a modern metal tone. Your gain on both OD1 and OD2 are low too. This thing on 10 is more than enough distortion. I run my at 10 all the time.
I would like to play on 10 all the time, but I put there so I can increase the volume without any feedback, since then I have rebiased and maybe I can increase the gain more now but haven't tried.
Yeah I want to know that too. I'm in a thrash/heavy metal band and I NEED SOME BAD ASS DISTORTION TOO!!! And I don't like pedals either :D I don't know what to buy.. a JCM TSL or JVM 410?
dude that is some fucking killer tone, and damn nice playing. I'm definitely getting myself one of these once I save up another grand. this thing is fucking intense \m/,
I have no idea where that come from, maybe the webcam? It's not there in real life. Kudos to you though, you scared the shit out of me, how did you even spot it in the first place? ... cheers:)
I recently bought this amp for $800.00 dollars from a good friend. Its only 2-3 months old. I stole it basically. It is definitely a versatile monster. Overall a good amp, a little to pricey new. I would rather have a Mesa Boogie Road King for the price. Same versatility and a much better assortment of tones.
sounds good for tech metal, not super heavy chugs. My brothers 6505 would eat this for lunch. this tone has ZERO bottom end and is way too thin. This is a good high end amp, not low end for chug. A 6505 Peavey head through a Marshall cab is PERFECT for HXC and Metalcore. And if you can afford one a Krank Head and cab which is my ultimate favorite amp company to date.
yeah, I should know, I went this route with heads: JSX->switchblade->6505->fireball->JVM410->VM2266 and 6505 was definately the most brutal with the fireball(with dark valves and 0 on treble) coming second. But I should of bought the 2266 right from start and would have saved me a LOT of money I lost from the trades.
2266 has the sound I was looking for Slayer down to SRV. for the occaisional brutals and aggro I'm eagerly waiting to hear the new EMMA pedal PisdiYOUwaot or whatever it's called. I hear you on the Krank, never tried , only heard it on youtube. But I had to go after my mamma-musics sound, and my mammamusic was early Loudness and Schenker so 2266 just fit that bill perfectly if you know what I mean,
VM-amps are really versatile. I've only played it twice at the store. I tried different setting and it can play glassy cleans, klassic rock, blues or heavy metal. Great amps. I use fireball now. But next time I go for an amp, VM-amps would be a great alternative.
I don't know about the mesa oversized other than from what I've read online, saying that the oversized is bass-boomy and the traditional is tight in the bass. Vintage 30's are perfect if you love mids. I chose between the orange 4x12 and this one.
Hey man, I've got a JVM 410H I don't have a cab yet. I really dig it with a mesa cabinet, but I'm wondering if it retains those poppy mids in the OD orange and Red channels through the mesa cab. Are the oversized and the traditional 4x12s the same thing?
i just looked at ur gain setting and laughed. thats a lot of gain for marshall when its not even near full. I really cant decide between the JVM2 or the DSL. i really like both.
Save up the extra bit and get the JVM4, that's where it's at! As for you saying about the gain, i agree, i've noticed on mine, you have to turn the pots a bit more than i'd expect to get a change in any value
@cabreranthe Not only that, everyone claims that Mesa is better because it has a low end thump. But the average enthusiast fails to recognize that ""thump" is cut from a mix anyways. Guitar is a mid instrument not a bass. Marshall has a wider frequency bandwidth. Lows, mids and highs, not just extended low-end...
@cabreranthe Agree with you mate- mesa rectos are soooo fucking old and dated, fuck they fake ass hype, it's like people raving about EMGs now, for fucks sake they've been out for 20 years +, get some new shit you amateur brand chasing bedroom playing fags!!
@slayerofgodz sucks for you. I literally have my bass over half, and pressence and trebble less than half and I cranked it today (full master volume and 9:30 channel vol) and it was not muddy at all. So fucking loud tho

I hear they are the shit.
mansonrkmc 2 years ago
I've still yet to play my 70's strat on this amp. I keep the amp at the jam spot and my strat at home with a Marshall MG 50. I tend to set my Resonance and Presence at 10. More crisp with the Presence and rounded out with the Resonance on 10. I've recorded thru the DI output into Garageband and it's great there to. Emulated 4x10 cab. I drop the mids recording this way. Loud and Live I bring them up to 6. I always run OD2 RED for rhythm. OD1 RED for solos with more mids and atouch more volume.
mansonrkmc 2 years ago

Have you tried emulating jcm 800 with reso and pres set to 0?

go to my space thesearetheychicago to hear my 410H
mansonrkmc 2 years ago
I'll do so when I come home :)
nossborn 2 years ago
wow, incredible sound and playng , very heavy indeed, I have to try your settings. Is it stock 410H and no pedal in front to tighten things up? pickups? cab?cheers, Oscar
nossborn 2 years ago
This amp rules. I own it and play death metal. Your settings sound too simular from OD1 to OD2. Can't tell them apart. Your presence is at 1. OD2 can scoop out the mids for a modern metal tone. Your gain on both OD1 and OD2 are low too. This thing on 10 is more than enough distortion. I run my at 10 all the time.
mansonrkmc 2 years ago
I would like to play on 10 all the time, but I put there so I can increase the volume without any feedback, since then I have rebiased and maybe I can increase the gain more now but haven't tried.

can u give me the setting of the amp

i played on of these jvms at a guitar store and the 4th channel sounded very muddy and to much bassy but it sounds much better in this video!!
i think it was because of the master volume which was set to low so the eq didnt really activated!!
rama6maiden 2 years ago
I hate this amp one day and the next day I love it, it's been like that back and forth. Other amps I've had didnt go back and forth.
nossborn 2 years ago
The beginning was heavy as fuck.
KeiththeTank 3 years ago 4
hey, how would you say this amp is for like thrash/speed metal? I want some heavy ass distortion straight from my amp instead of using a pedal
MetalHead1965 3 years ago
Yeah I want to know that too. I'm in a thrash/heavy metal band and I NEED SOME BAD ASS DISTORTION TOO!!! And I don't like pedals either :D I don't know what to buy.. a JCM TSL or JVM 410?

I have no idea where that come from, maybe the webcam? It's not there in real life. Kudos to you though, you scared the shit out of me, how did you even spot it in the first place? ... cheers:)

Haha sorry for scaring you! I have no idea of how I spotted that, I guess I was looking at the controls and happened to notice it.

I recently bought this amp for $800.00 dollars from a good friend. Its only 2-3 months old. I stole it basically. It is definitely a versatile monster. Overall a good amp, a little to pricey new. I would rather have a Mesa Boogie Road King for the price. Same versatility and a much better assortment of tones.
humpthewhatbutt 3 years ago
sounds good for tech metal, not super heavy chugs.
Bennylovesbeer 3 years ago
yeah, I should know, I went this route with heads: JSX->switchblade->6505->fireball->JVM410->VM2266 and 6505 was definately the most brutal with the fireball(with dark valves and 0 on treble) coming second. But I should of bought the 2266 right from start and would have saved me a LOT of money I lost from the trades.
nossborn 3 years ago
2266 has the sound I was looking for Slayer down to SRV. for the occaisional brutals and aggro I'm eagerly waiting to hear the new EMMA pedal PisdiYOUwaot or whatever it's called. I hear you on the Krank, never tried , only heard it on youtube. But I had to go after my mamma-musics sound, and my mammamusic was early Loudness and Schenker so 2266 just fit that bill perfectly if you know what I mean,
nossborn 3 years ago
no use for me to play the brutalz when I'm really not was just pretending I guess, sry for my rant, cheers.
nossborn 3 years ago
VM-amps are really versatile. I've only played it twice at the store. I tried different setting and it can play glassy cleans, klassic rock, blues or heavy metal. Great amps. I use fireball now. But next time I go for an amp, VM-amps would be a great alternative.
Lol927837 3 years ago
R U KIDDING ME the bass on mine can shake the house this video dose no justice to the JVM and this amp is all low end play the amp then judge it.
hiddenplan1 3 years ago
I don't know about the mesa oversized other than from what I've read online, saying that the oversized is bass-boomy and the traditional is tight in the bass. Vintage 30's are perfect if you love mids. I chose between the orange 4x12 and this one.
nossborn 3 years ago
Hey man, I've got a JVM 410H I don't have a cab yet. I really dig it with a mesa cabinet, but I'm wondering if it retains those poppy mids in the OD orange and Red channels through the mesa cab. Are the oversized and the traditional 4x12s the same thing?
pepporonipie87 3 years ago
The Marshall JVM 410 is a killer amp! I'm saving up for one.

rocknrollman1234 3 years ago 7
holy fuck man. ijust got a boner just listening to this. i can't decide between this and the JVM 2. definetly getting a Mesa cab.
666lespaul 3 years ago
i just looked at ur gain setting and laughed. thats a lot of gain for marshall when its not even near full. I really cant decide between the JVM2 or the DSL. i really like both.
jwalsh8 3 years ago 2
Save up the extra bit and get the JVM4, that's where it's at! As for you saying about the gain, i agree, i've noticed on mine, you have to turn the pots a bit more than i'd expect to get a change in any value

nice but i think i would go for a mesa rectifier

mesa rect is not versatile like jvm
cabreranthe 3 years ago 20
no amp is as versatile as the JVM besides the Egnater tourmaster.
firstgearlead 3 years ago
@cabreranthe Not only that, everyone claims that Mesa is better because it has a low end thump. But the average enthusiast fails to recognize that ""thump" is cut from a mix anyways. Guitar is a mid instrument not a bass. Marshall has a wider frequency bandwidth. Lows, mids and highs, not just extended low-end...
Gtrplyr1 1 year ago
@Gtrplyr1 you fucking nailed it the description of a good marshall as opposed to a mesa :) totally agree
justenbeashel 1 year ago
@justenbeashel Thanks dude! rock on
Gtrplyr1 1 year ago
@cabreranthe Agree with you mate- mesa rectos are soooo fucking old and dated, fuck they fake ass hype, it's like people raving about EMGs now, for fucks sake they've been out for 20 years +, get some new shit you amateur brand chasing bedroom playing fags!!

Just sold my Dual Rectifier for a JVM 410h
Dual rec was muddy as all hell at gig levels.
my Mark III slayed it in every possible way.
slayerofgodz 3 years ago 10
@slayerofgodz sucks for you. I literally have my bass over half, and pressence and trebble less than half and I cranked it today (full master volume and 9:30 channel vol) and it was not muddy at all. So fucking loud tho
ripcliffburtonrip 1 year ago
@slayerofgodz
Good thing man. I've already got a buyer on my ENGL Fireball. Once it's out, I'm getting a JVM.
