Plus, if the video says 'Technical Demo,' that does not mean it is a trailer... usually it means the exact opposite.
In regards to a remake, Kitase said that to do VII with the graphical detail of XIII, it would take 3-4 times the 3.5 years that XIII took, which is too much for the current environment.
What I don't get is why Square Enix doesn't make a sequel. It is obvious that if they just updated the graphics and kept everything else the same, then they would sell millions of copies on Day 1.

Square Enix said it would take either twice the manpower and 3 years to make it. It seems pretty doubtful we'll see it on our PlayStation 3 consoles anytime soon.
@DanielL5583 They never said that lol. During FF13 they said it was impossible to make a remake just because half the people of the original cast was helping FF13. However they just recently said since FF13 is done, that it is a good possibility!

@violink4swords The slap fight was OK. It actually felt good to bitch slap that woman. But the CPR was just... well, dull. And don't get me started in the (waaay to easy) dolphin jump minigame or the (waaaaay too annoying) "jump onto the moving thingie that swings and you can't actually catch it without luck dammit".
The point is that they existed, throughout the ENTIRE game. No other final fantasy title did this.
It was little things like the CPR, Dolphin jump, Shinra March Routine / performing for rufus, slap fight, tifa's piano, breaking tifa out of the gas chamber, ect ect, its things that like that set FF7 apart from every other final fantasy game.
What current RPGs do with a, cutscene, FF7 did with a minigame. Its why its the best RPG ever, really. They keep you in the story

The people who are saying FFVII won't be remade really ought to do their research. According to IGN, FFVI, FFVII, and FFVIII are going to be remake with better graphics and some improvements. They'll be sold separately.

i subscribe to EGM and the magazine stated that ff7 WILL be remade. i think from a marketing standpoint it makes sense to tease people with the idea that it might be remade rather than to just say it will definitely happen. i think it generates more curiosity therefore more excitement and once ppl start talking about it then the company gets free advertising from word of mouth. ANY company would be idiotic to pass up such an opportunity.

Oh, they'll remake it. There are still a few more cents to be milked from the dried-up cow that is the FFVII franchise. That said, I'll buy it as long as they keep the battle system turn-based.

I recived an email of Square Enix and they responded:
Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects. Your feedback will be forwarded to our development teams.

The Final Fantasy VII Technical Demo was a remake of the original Final Fantasy VII opening, showcasing the new graphical capabilities of the Sony PlayStation 3
When it was released, a large number of fans saw this as a hope for a total remake of Final Fantasy VII. Square Enix has denied this.

Was Square even aware that if they made a tech demo like this, rumors for a remake would happen? Anyway, I hope to God that it eventually happens, hopefully for a PSP release. I'd get it for the PS3, but they're too expensive. :(

The people who are saying FFVII won't be remade really ought to do their research. According to IGN, FFVI, FFVII, and FFVIII are going to be remake with better graphics and some improvements. They'll be sold separately.
I can't wait for that. Of all the FF games, I loved FFVII.

i subscribe to EGM and the magazine stated that ff7 WILL be remade. i think from a marketing standpoint it makes sense to tease people with the idea that it might be remade rather than to just say it will definitely happen. i think it generates more curiosity therefore more excitement and once ppl start talking about it then the company gets free advertising from word of mouth. ANY company would be idiotic to pass up such an opportunity.

I heard that too, but I think considering what a HUGE market they could appeal to with such a remake, they might have to reconsider it. Considering how vague they've been in their comments about it, I don't think they're completely discounting the idea.

Final Fantasy VII is one of the best rpgs ever. If they ever remade it(but as of now they say that they wouldn't) count me in for the hundreds of thousands of Final Fantasy Fans who would buy this. Given that the graphics will be like the one in the tech trailer, and they will need voices. Thats how it's gonna sell. Hell if they made a remake of final fantasy VIII, i'd buy that as well

But yeah. I think they should go through with remaking this game. It would be the first they've remade (to my knowladge), which would be pretty nifty. I believe the release of this trailor was made as kind of a toss-it-out-and-see-what-happens thing. If they liked the publics reaction to it, mostly the reaction in Japan, probably, they probably would have remade it. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes, ne?
