As a history student at the 17th best university in the world it's safe to say that I have studied, thank you very much. I've studied enough to know that when Europeans were burning their own history because it was 'pagan', Arabs were preserving Greek and Roman writings on history, science, medicine and philosophy. @Cellvar America knew it couldn't take on the USSR, if you can't beat em join em. Best America could do was wait till Russia and Britain had done most of the fighting and then sweep in and take as much of Europe before the Communists did. And I'd be willing to bet that Anglo-Saxon, Irish or Italian Americans made up larger portions than German Americans.

Granted the Soviets were just as bad if not worse than the Nazis but joining Germany would have been suicide, America simply couldn't take on the USSR, for economical and political reasons. The lesser of the two evils was to attack Germany and prevent the Soviets from swallowing all of Europe
