  • Kool, it seems to be expensive, though ...

  • @HorizonDelta Wayne Strattman with Strattman Design in Boston has been known to make similar globes for around $1K. The Bill Parker pieces have a variable-frequency driver, contain multiple images, and can be programmed to sweep through a whole range of different "looks" and power settings by the owner. Most other globes are fixed-frequency, and have to be adjusted by hand to show different version of the same basic image.

  • @TheBigMagicalUnicorn They cost around $3K and you would have to contact the artist William P. Parker, who lives in Waitsfield, Vermont, or an associate of his with a YouTube username Lightningman2 to get this image. The sculpture is called "Sleepless Nights"

  • i want this thing.... i want it very badly... i also want the mony it costs... also very badly... tohugh i might want the globe more

  • @combatplayer I'm sorry but none of the sculptures featured in the online exhibit are for sale, especially the Bill Parker pieces.

  • @StandingWulf -.- Theft it is then. loljks I wouldn't. But this thing is still so epic

  • I wanna have sex with that thing. but not in a sexual way. do you know how I mean?

  • @apapalonglong I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but my understanding is that these sculptures were designed for audience participation, and because they are made from luminous gas and appear to have a lot of "personality" and varied movement, they can evoke a very strong emotional response in some people.

  • I meant that thing is so awesome I want one! other ways to say that you want something is saying that you wanna have sex with it. but i don't, I just want one for teh avsumniss!

  • @StandingWulf where can i buy it ? can you give me the link ?

  • @gfrtemo I will send you the contact information I have for Bill Parker via YouTube message.

  • Bill Parker still will make a REAL Sleepless Nights if you desire one. No need to buy a knock off. Bil's lab is in Vermont. He is not hard to find

  • Thanks for the offer. I did not know Bill was still making his sculptures. This particular globe (and some others like it with different gas mixtures in them) was left behind in the Glass Depot at Studio for Visual Technologies in Stamford, CT with black RTV silicone on the stem. It wound up for sale by a Chicago science surplus dealer for the glass globe in 2003 and was still inside a Corning Glass Works box and packed with some newspaper dated Feb 1984.

  • @StandingWulf You lucky bastard. I live 5 blocks from that place. I'll call them tomorrow but I doubt they'll have any left.

  • @lightningman2 How would one contact this lab?

  • what is different from tesla coil and plasma ball

  • Plasma globes run on much less current and with much lower voltages than the average theatrical-grade Tesla coil, and the resistance of the gas fill absorbs most of the energy, making them normally safe to handle. Tesla coils run in air with about 1,000 times more power and can easily cause serious electrical burns. Plasma globes are domesticated miniature versions of Tesla coils that are usually not housebroken.

  • it is a tesla coil!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yep. Tesla coil in a xenon bottle.

  • just dont put 1 finger on top of the other one when you touch the ball.....it might be painfull :p (cool video, btw)

  • where can I buy one like this from??

I`ve seen large multicolored ones from america but they will not ship them out to the UK ?? any advice would be appriciated.

Nice plasma ball though...thought of selling it ?

  • The Bill Parker Sleepless Nights edition was sold out in the late 1980s. Contact Wayne Strattman with Strattman Design in Boston (USA) I have seen evidence that he can make 12 inch museum-grade globes with an image very similar to this one. ( International shipping for a 12 inch plasma globe starts at $600 USD. ) This specimen of SN is part of a special exhibit and is not for sale.

  • target :))) i hv one

  • nice!

  • gases?

  • It contains a proprietary (trade secret) mixture developed by Bill Parker

  • Xenon Argon & Nitrogen

  • Excellent Example! Nice effect too!
