  • She needs an ass whippin'!!!!

  • My Junior High is doing this play.. I'm doing Helen Keller and we were practicing this scene today.. It's so much fun, but it's very difficult! But I love it! :) this show is going to be a big challenge.

  • this is fucking hilarious

  • Hellen Keller was One of the greatest woman in America.

  • WAIT. so patty duke played as the hellen in this movie, and then in the other movie with Mellisa Gilbert ( from little house on the prairie), she plays as the Teacher in the same movie? o_O

  • It's sad that she couldn't see or here! Thats a really difficult life.

  • 7:54 BIG SPLASH! BIG REACTION!!

  • 7:54 Awesome

  • 1:30 epic slapping!

  • tht scene wore me out just watching it lol but great scene!!

  • now a days they would have medicated helen into a coma!

  • She looks like the exorcist.

  • We watched this scene in English class because this was are story for the week it was funny when she slapped her

  • if they could talk it would go: hellen: hey, hey annie annie: -.- what hellen: can i try some food?_? annie: no. hellen: -eats- annie: >:O -SLAPS- hellen: O_O. OH HELL NAW BITCH! -BITCH SLAPS- later.... annie: HAIR, GIRL hellen: BITCH -PULLS HAIR-
  • We watched this exact video in english class today and the class was just giggling under our breaths. It was really funny to watch when Annie splashed all that water in Helen's face, she kinda deserved it, she didn't have to go all berserk on Annie like that, she was just trying to teach her. But cant wait to finish the book. Yea, we're also reading the book in class. We on Act 3(last act), hope it has a good ending.

  • this is amazing on all levels

  • The tried to show us this movie in grade seven. Needless to say we all busted a gut laughing and the principal got all pissed of and shut the film off soon after this scene.

  • patty duke; a hot dog makes her lose control.

  • i laughed my ass off....im going to hell.......

  • Time Magazine said Bancroft and Duke gave the best pair of performances ever recorded on one film.

  • LOL @2:38 WHAT A FUCKING DEKE

  • Patty Duke should have won the Academy Award for her performance as Helen at the time!

  • @lilksweezy ........................she did.

  • Okay which version is the one I belive it's in color...but all I remember is that the deaf/blind girl called the lady teacher, and deaf/blind girl asked teachers husband to kiss her...Am I on the right movie??

  • I bet she didn't SEE that water coming haha

  • 1:12 best b*tch.fight.EVAR!!

  • How many times it took to do this scene, I wonder?

  • This is a certain time why won't Helen just get used to the fact that Annie has come to help her not to kill her

  • Just watching this scene was exhausting me...

  • What were they eating here LOL

  • Actually, she can't see, talk hear or speak either.

  • Ahh that lil spoiled shit needs to get flogged(:

  • Kids are so fucking spoiled these days this is what needs to happen to them. I'd wish they would allow the teachers to hit them these days. Back then, everyone was decent in school or else theyd have a good spanking

  • no offnese but Helen had a shit fit from 0:00 to 0:24

  • Exhausting!

  • Patty Duke is Helen. Isn't patty doing good?

  • 7:52 lol

  • Classic example of how life imitates art and art imitates life...Patty probably had had these tantrums in life because of her bipolar disorder

  • Really awesome acting.

I`m doing a report on Helen Keller right now, and though I don`t like reports, since I`m doing Helen Keller makes it interesting.

  • oh man... this is the greatest acting I've ever seen!

Duke deserved 10 stars out of 10 for it!

  • This looks like a very interesting movie. RIP Anne Bancroft. She was such a good actress.

  • I've never seen such well - timed acting.Bancroft and Duke must have had some real emotional bouts, to rehearse such a emotionally demanding scene.

  • That's pure acting. Something not seen these days. Remarkable.

  • They got to be tired as hell .

  • @kkgirl300 Oh yeah. I play Helen Keller in my school production of this and every time we do this scene I'm so exhausted by the end. The thing about the movie though is that they did MULTIPLE TAKES!!!! I would die.

  • Very epic scene!

  • nowadays, anne sullivian wouldn't be a hero, children's aid would be breathing down her neck and helen's family's neck.

  • I love this movie

  • Shoot it in the head!

  • it's amazing when you think that anne sullivan was 19 years old and nearly blind when this took place....

this film always made me cry. I almost never cry at films, but films like this...they just don't have scenes like this anymore. No dialogue. No music telling you how to feel, just raw emotion.

  • PATTY DUKE. GREAT ACTRESS; AND EVERYONE KNOWS HER FROM THE PATTY DUKE SHOW. A HOT DOG MAKES HER LOSE CONTROL!

  • Without language, our students are all, to one degree or another, like Helen Keller. That is why we need teachers like Annie Sullivan who do not choose the path of least resistance. They teach.

  • jesus christ o.0

  • SLAP!

    SLAP!

    SLAP!

    SLAP!

  • Even though, I can imagine how exhausting and hard this must have been for both the actors and the real people, when I itched this with my class in 6th grade, we were laughing so hard when they were slapping eachother.

  • I agree...it is a blessing to be in a good shape

  • Brilliant.

  • It would be pretty fun to be the teacher!!! Give her a peace of my MIND.

  • God blessed Helen Kellers soul

  • no being able to see what the other person is going through.

  • It took 5 days to film this nine minute sequence and 3 cameras.

  • dang... for a blind deaf and mute girl she sure does have some ninja moves..... lol

  • man, you can tell how exhausted patty and anne were doing that scene. i love this movie.

  • o wow thts messed up ,, she got the food from the floor nd gave it to her

  • thank god abortions were invented

  • This has to be one of the best scenes in the movie.......Imagine them doing that on stage......Every night?

  • Yeeeees !

  • I couldn't IMAGINE being blind AND deaf.

  • This scene always scared me.

  • Reageren op deze video... i want a job like that too! just sitting around..eating .. a pity of the annoying girl though

  • She'd be an easy rape victim.

  • @RyanEvH YOU'RE attempt at humor is HORRIBLE!

  • @BikiniBottomHero Your attempt at an insult is horrible.

  • @RyanEvH It's not an insult I'm only stating the truth.

  • One of the most incredible scenes, that I have seen in a movie. So real. Ann Bancroft and Patty Duke are brilliant actresses and this movie touched me so much.

  • i would have spanked her

  • 4:07

  • This scene is the most emotional scene with the last part at the water pump.It had to be exhausting at first for real annie sullivan to tame a wild helen, who also was terribly stubborn.Patty duke was just incredible in helen keller's role. She is the best helen keller since 1962;no other actress has beaten her. She's the greatest helen.

  • @fisteberg

I agree with you completely. This has to be one of the most incredible acting roles I have ever seen two individuals portray. I've seen other performances of The Miracle Worker, but none of them do it as well as young Patty Duke. She gave an incredible performance as Helen Keller.

  • i would be scared

  • that girl should've played the exorcist

  • That little demon.

  • This is one of the greatest scenes in cinema

  • @PurpleMintSam totally agree, you need a great director (this case was Arthur Penn) to see or... to feel in way way you can start to comunicate with someone who is totally muth and deaf ...and worse, is totally spoiled

  • I watched this is school I wanted more fighting lol.

  • This must have been exhausitng to film.

  • lmao how many times did she throw the spoon?

  • Omgoodness, I think I would've just fought it out with Helen. haha jk.

  • Is the black hair lady Anne Sullivan? Why're they running around the dining room?I don't get it...

  • @edxxlovexx are you serious? Well, Helen Keller is the little girl and she's deaf and blind (and thus unable to speak) and Annie Sullivan is the young woman who was sent to her home to teach her language and to communicate. In other words, Helen was a wild child and Annie has to tame her, so to speak. This all happened in 1887 in Alabama, USA.

  • fuck both of u ok

  • What a freak, Dumb Shit! XD

  • LOL

  • What energy both of these actresses have!! I wonder if this scene was all done in one take. . . .lol And they both stayed in character the whole time too, thats just amazing!! If i had been Patty Duke just after filming this scene, the first thing I'd wanna do is take a nap. . . X-P thanx for posting!

  • Captions not avail! brilliant! thanks for caring about the DEAF!

  • Patty Duke was one of the best (if not THE best) child actors of all times. But Lordy, this kind of "discipline" would get Annie Sullivan arrested nowadays, and rightly so. Very abusive.

  • It's so much better seeing it live the stage, if done properly.

I can't get the fact the Sean Astin looks pretty much just like her mother in this film!

  • This scene makes you a little sleepy but I really like it!!!

  • daaaaaaamn bitch slap!!! xD i love Anne Sullivan

  • It's amazing that this woman didn't give up. There are other handicapped children, which are not so full of hatred. I wonder, wasn't the grown up Helen Keller ashamed to have been such an ugly behaving child. She was lucky that she was not my child, she would have ended up in an institution. She was not so small anymore, as we can see.

  • it's dramatic

  • BTW before anyone accuses me of abusing my own children. I think physical punishment shouldn't be used as a first resort.

  • It's not child abuse. She's being hard on her. What is she supposed to do? put her in time out? Take toys away? When you do something and then pain follows after that action, you learn not to do it anymore. It's very basic. Would you have a conversation with your dog about not digging holes in the yard? No. He won't even understand you. But if every time he digs you come out there and slap him, He'll learn.

  • This one of the most powerful scenes ever put to celluloid!

  • What I love about this scene isn't that Helen is getting punished. It's that she's completely dishing it back!

  • Considering the era that Helen was raised it is amazing her parents didn't institutionalize her, and then to find someone who would help her is just remarkable. I can't even imagine what her world must of been like, no sight or sound. She turned into an inspiration and amazing woman partly thanks to Annie

  • One of my favorite scenes from movies...

I just don't have words to describe....

    simply wonderful,fabulous,magnificent,stunning....

    PEEERFECT *_*

  • this story inspired others obviously,

but I just HAD to see this version instead of the disney version lol

  • Oh. Es ist so schlimm.

Als ich denn Film durch zufall gesehen habe.. ich wollte einfach nicht aufstehen um meine Hausaufgaben zu machen.. Ich musste ihn zu Ende gucken.

  • Thank you for uploading the video clip. God Bless. - Helen

  • brilliant film...both Anne and Patti are fantastic together in this!

    a 10/10.

  • something you could'nt possibly undertsnad..MORON!

  • @nunao123 it is THE most amazing + inspirational story of history. and i agree w/ TheDRAMAChannel1 it is something you couldn't possibly understand. so suck that (:

  • nunao...It's called a scene from a movie. Isn't it cool?

  • The acting sure is great! =]

  • Helen keller used to throw tantrums as a little girl in real life. She was very frustrated and angry in fact because she had no ways of communicating and felt locked inside. That's why she was so violent .Poignant movie and one of my favorites.I always felt attracted by handicaped people. And who really is normal in our society?

  • I can see why both women won their oscars. This is one of the most physically challenging scenes for any actress, and Anne and Patty pulled it off very brilliantly.

  • lolololol

  • oh yes, a disabled child tormented by her disabilities, how hilarious.

  • I do not think, dear kyrannippel, that anyone is laughing at the child not being able to hear or the child not being able to see. As Is with all children of absolutely any background, there will be times when you look back and can't help but laugh remembering the worst tantrums, the antics involved, and how far they come. Yes, the scene is funny, but not because of Helen's disabilities. Just the eggs. =]

  • i was replying to a comment, not laughing at the scene

  • this is better than wrestling

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When Helen Keller was little no one corrected her and let her do whatever she wanted. When Annie arrived she would just walk around and grab off people's plates with her hands - she's trying to teach her how to eat properly and since Helen has lived her entire life with no one telling her what to do she throws a huge tantrum over it.

  • 2:39 DEEKED!

  • Must have been a really strong girl

  • oh shit...i just got assigned to do this scene in my acting class! And I'm Hellen!...Oooh boy, dis is gonna be hard

  • accept not except:-)

  • 7:42 THE BEST HAHAHAHA i couldent have done that any better myself XD (not that i would except if someone was force feeding me with a spoon that is) i eat with my hands too but i live in southeast asia thats different !!

  • Comment removed

  • well since im sure everyone is gonna get a bit sensitive...which i see they are. i dont see the point in explaining.

  • what a tremendous scene this is...

it makes me feel like writing a paper on the movie...

  • Wow. watching this makes me feel really tired. haha.

    But the performance is AMAZING.

  • @RunningwithRobots

I thought the same exact thing. Then I discovered (I have videos on my channel) what Patty and Anne had to go through to film this scene. I have great appreciation for the both of them.

  • If you couldn't hear or see and you lived in that period you would be a brat too. She was very lucky t hat her family didn't throw her into one of those dreadful 19th century asylums. That is what happened to a lot of deaf/blind children.

  • One of the most AMAZING scenes ever! The physicality is just outstanding!

  • Ahh absolutely the BEST scene in the whole movie. I really want to perform this play on stage someday...sadly I think I'm too old to play Helen and too young to play Anne but who knows...it would be awesome. XD

  • 2:39!! LOLOLOL.

    JUKKKKE.

  • makes you feel so blessed to be healthy

  • Oh, you hippie. She's not her mother. She's a woman the girl's family hired to turn her into a lady and not a spoiled little brat. Just because someone has a disability doesn't mean they can do without humanity and respect for others.

  • That little girl could ACT!

  • @Reitherocket I know right!?

  • Anne Bancroft is a perfect Anne Sullivan

  • OMG, i love this! i saw this in HS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's because of Annie that Helen Keller turned out to be such an amazing person in the end.

Granted that no one wants to see a blind girl slapped silly, it was the only way for Annie to get Helen to turn around.

    And it worked.

Helen Keller became a great person in the end and became an inspiration to many people around the world.

  • She was a bitch at first but then she turned into a kind person.

  • lets not over look the fact that she was a bitch!

with bad table manners, none the less.

    ha

  • this was amazing. that had to be exhausting. i wonder how long it took to film.

    ~lAUra

  • SPINMOVE!!!! 2:40 gets em everytime!

  • I love her tantrums. Patty Duke did a good job in this.

  • Bitches be trippen

    lulz

  • patty duke would be good for the Exorcist

  • Wow... this is exausting to watch!!! Wow, Annie had to be stronger than Helen, and wow, it took a lot. But from what I understand this was the biggest battle they had... and Annie won. Thank the Lord! Helen turned out to be an amazing person, but she was such a brat, I can't imagine what it was like to have to be her teacher!

  • This is just exhausting to watch!

  • haha. a bit unorthodox for some people... no wonder we have so many kids in america like that because we don't discipline them. high school for example even isn't that mature. she tried to go through the chimney.

  • wow patty duke is really good bein a real wild child :b

  • I love this scene. It is just a reminder of how a lot of humans act for years until they are tired of their nonsense behavior. It is a simple message to do things right so you don't have to learn the hard way. BTW this is one of my favorite movies

  • They are sooo mean to this Handicaped woman

  • But Helen needed it. If Anne would have treated her like everybody else, she wouldn't have been what she is like today. Anne became Helen's best friend, sometimes you need to give someone a slap across the face before the learn what's really best for them... Read Anne's story and you'll see, she is an amazing person also!

  • The Single most DISTURBING thing i've ever seen or wish to see

  • Lmao after she kept jumping out the chair for 5 minutes, i thought she actually got her to stay then she crawled over the table, made me laugh xD

  • Phenomenal acting by the both of them!

  • things were different back then.

  • Patti Duke did a fantastic job.

  • you're an idiot.... hence your screen name.

  • Guess what?

It wasn't today. So get over it.

She was helping Helen and for some reason you don't realize that... If you went deaf and blind I sure hope someone would just leave you in a gutter.
