Just think if a dome house was made of porous clay, then a layer of sand, then clay...basically the zeer pot upside down....you could have a cold home in hot climates...think desert...lim sure it's cheaper to use some water vs electricity to cool a home to 70 degrees in 112 Texas sun
@LunaNott1 Yes indeed! but then again water in a place like the desert would be hard to find, and then if you did, would probably hurt the ppl inside through hypothermia and frostbite if not low-temp exposure. But you are onto something, Saladin supposedly could make ice in the desert. It has been proven that he did not lie in terms of feasibility- I think he did it with an idea like yours: Zeer pots the size of cars left in the shade of the hot 100 degree desert.
How about mixing up some plaster of Paris and filling the gap between the pots above the sand. You could plaster in the top of a bottle to give you a removable cap to fill it with water.
@Hamish121212 naw because that's actually how it is achieving the cooling effect is that ring at the top being unobstructed. That pocket of air creates a good seal. I appreciate the comment though, you should try one and VR me.
@MegaGevehr Hey, don't get fresh with me buster- I seen smartguys like you come and go. The fact is, most wiseguys like you coming down the street aren't fresh off the boat and that's what makes for a quick trip to Davy Joneses locker if you ask me, Jack. I'm just a gumshoe out here taking what I can get; made men like you out here throw a real monkey wrench in my gears any way you look at it.
Can't wait to see it work. I'd like toint out that so much comes down to Volume in relation to surface area. for example. we buff our tinder to make more surface area so the spark catches. I wonder if a larger evaporation surface would translate to a colder cooler.
@MrBudwv We got a cold snap coming in but I'm going to conduct the experiment with artificial heat. All it takes is water and a hot day, and yes the model I built this from is identical to it and it tested 40 degrees F on a 90 degree day. All the testing they did let the air out but it still made beers frosty when they took the bottles out. Supposedly Saladin could make ice in the desert, I bet this is how he did it.
Cool! I think it's spelled zeer. One thing to consider is maybe coat the outer side of the inner pot with something non-permeable like DryLok. Great idea! I'd love to see what the temperature delta is on a hot day.

you might could use the terra cotta bottom (water catcher) for the flower pot turned upside down.

@MyDaddysgirl44 That's a great idea! Totally, I'll look into it. That's a great idea.

@LeonRFpoa Cool. you could be right. I think I'll study up on this tech.
