I'm 15 and I've wanted to learn how to play the guitar since I was about 8/9 but I had no motivation and never found the right place to start! I have 2 guitars and still can't play, haha! But yeah, this video has helped a lot, I'm going to check out Jam Guitar! Thank you!
I learned, well still learning... Even when my fingers hurt, I still tried to find a way where they didn't hurt just to play the guitar.. I know some songs that i love to play, but still have a lot to learn... Thanks for the video.
thanks for the tips ive been playing bass since grade 10 and im going to college soon and i thought i would learn the guitar just to broaden what i can learn, so far hardest thing for me is to get used to the smaller spacing of the strings haha
Thank you so much for posting this. I'm 19 right now and was a little scared at the idea of how well it'd go for me if I try to learn, but because you were almost as old it makes me feel better about trying this later in life :]
Thank you for the tips. I got an adorable pink acoustic guitar for Xmas from a member of a band that I hang/ perform with from time to time. He saw how interested I was in learning guitar and surprised me. I have been practicing ever since and noticed that I am improving little by little. These tips are very helpful. I am looking into the site you talked about as well. I can't wait to post a video here of me actually playing something. I am proud to be teaching myself. Thanks a million :)
I have been playing for about a half year now. (by self learning). and the first finger picking song I learned was Classical gas, too :D think I learned it at my second month. It was very hard! so it took a couple days, or maybe a week. But you are absolutely right about how it changes ones skill level with easier songs. Thumbs up! (; - and good luck to everyone of you out there who wants to learn to play the guitar! it's great when you get started.
My mom was teaching me every day back in high school. When she went through chemo, she lost the sensation in her fingers and couldn't play anymore. After losing her, the thought of sitting and learning from anyone else killed me. It's been 6 years since she passed and I'm finally ready to honor her memory by picking the guitar up again. 24 years old, never too late! Thanks for the tips. Love to all.
@jakehayek frankly... until its too painful to continue. one way to become great at something is to learn to love it. when you love playing guitar, you never want to put it down. that being said, if you don't have to time to play all day (+ most don't), I'd say aim for at least an hour of constructive practice every day. the first 1/2 hour of practice is usually unproductive - your fingers are just getting warmed up. start to push yourself... and you'll notice fast improvement.
Im 15. I Thought I Was To Old To Start. But Now That Heard That There Are People Who Start Way Older Then Me Gives Me A Little Bit More Self Confidence. I Loved The Tips And HOPE The Site Will Help Me As Well. Thanks Bro.
@Invader12100 very nice, I'm sure that you eventually will... and you'll have a head start for sure. Violin is very similar, being another string instrument that relies on the same principles to make music.
I'm nearly 13 and i have just started to learn how to play the guitar. I have started guitar lessons in my school but so far I've only had a couple of lessons and am wanting to carry on. This vid really helped me thank you for the tips and I will definitely use them in the future!!
Talk about getting a late start! I am almost 50 but have wanted to learn how to play for as long as I can remember. I'm a vocalist and want to learn how to play to accompany myself instead of having to depend on others to play for me. Watching this video is inspiring me that it's never too late to learn. I've had lots of false starts and have gotten discouraged because it always seems so daunting and lessons are very expensive. Hope I can be a success story here soon!
Your tips make great sense and are very encouraging. I ordered a Big Baby Taylor yesterday. It's making its way here, now, via UPS and before I sign up for lessons I can barely afford, I thought I'd check youtube... and here you are! Thanks for sharing your experience and your expertise. As is evidenced by all the folks who've posted notes to you, you're touching a lot of lives. Take care!
Music has no language nor age barrier my dear friends if you feel that you should learn to play just go for it, its the fire within you that must be always burning for music the fire within me has become a Volcano and I am going to learn Guitar and BTW I am 27 @flyers821@cmqd......Go make the world a musical place......
@KroghNano yes of course - the difference lies in the way the sound is amplified. one has a hollow body which amplifies the sound of the strings by delivering the energy of the strings into the air (acoustic) and the other uses electromagnetic pickups to create an electric signal which is sent to an electric amplifier for amplification (electric). The acoustic also has thicker strings so more energy is transferred to the body and in turn into sound.
HA! I'm 26 and just now picking it up... But I do have previous music experience (started playing violin at age 5) Thanks for your posts, I hope they will help!
HEY I am 49 (50 in Dec.) I keep thinking the more I buy the better I will get, LOL I have a Les Paul, a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Strat, an Ibanez Js, an Ibanez Vai acoustic, Line 6 tue amp, and a big collection of pedals. Great!!! but my practice is sporadic and I dont know the basics. I keep lokking up videos on youtube try for a while then give up when I can't play these songs. I need the basics and good practice habits. I first wanted to learn when I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. WOW
I'm currently 15 now and I've wanted to learn to play guitar since I was 7. I got my dad to buy me a guitar and everything and I started to play everyday without a teacher. I tried to learn by myself because my dad told me it was too expensive for a teacher so I practiced but I gave up because I learned absolutely nothing. Few days ago I saw my old guitar in my closet and I decided to pick it up again. Someone told me I could just learn from YouTube so thanks for that website and this video
Thankyou so much. I haven''t the money for lessons or even a good guitar! But I hope your advice turns out well! Thankyou I'll keep at it and I'll let you know the impact your advice had on my music career. Check out my youtube, I'm a singer/pianist. Thankyou so much!!
@chubacaschild1 you'll get used to it. ur fingers get calluses. I've been playing since i was 9 (I'm 13) And I already had calluses from farming but they get callused pretty quickly
I'm starting to want to play my brother's guitar.... He got it for his birthday and doesn't even use it >> so I will! Thanks so much for your motivation! I really want to play!
