Also, I find the colours more intense on the fish in green water. Only humans prefer a crystal-clear pond, and making it look that way is not easy. often you have to mess about with filters, biological clearing agents and chemicals to make it crystalline- you can do it and still have a great environment for your fish that they will thrive in, but my point is you don't HAVE to.
Also how do you stop goldfish from fighting. My baby red cap oranda is viscous towards my lion head, i want to stop that behaviour rather than provide hiding places.
does this mean the small fish in uv pond have been stunted due to not having the benefits of greenwater, or can they still grow in future if given greenwater?
no, and I'm not saying green water is necessary for development, just that it isn't bad for the fish. When we medicate the fish, we leave the water green because it's easier on the fish, hides slow (ill) ones from herons, crows and hawks, and is one more peice of equipment we don't have to use.
algae is good for fish

Out of the fittings drawer;-)...pond department or irrigation department of a large nursery.

We sell them. This video was taken at my work- we're a large nursery that sells fish and birds and miniature trains as well as plants.

LilyISay , can you tell me where to get the fittings you used on your DIY filter?

with UV steriliser the water will be green?:-/
stvnivan 3 years ago
Um, yes, I did the video to illustrate the difference. The clear tank has a uv light incorporated into the filter. The green tank does not.
