Hey mate. I have the same thing. Can you post a recent video or get back to me with what else you are doing to get it better. I too wish to get rid of this infection. Tony Nopo
my mum is 78 and has had lyphodoema for years. she now has cellulitis that is appearing to be external leg blisters and fluid in the back of the hand. and anywhere else it decides to go. There is no cure it is oonly prevention i.e Dont bite nails etc. My mums legs are 3 times the size of my weight. A Dr Pflug wrote a book about the swollen leg worth checking out.
Oh wow! I have this on both my legs and ankles and it hurts very much. I went to a dermatologist yesterday and he took a punch biopsy out of my leg. It's sore but, hopefully they'll get some answers for me soon and get this treated. I have taken prednisone, which is a steroid and eliminated the cellulitis, but as you know, long term use of prednisone causes many other health issues. Maybe you can try that. Good luck mate and I hope you can get that healed up.
oh mate i have got cellulitis just now and it looks a lot worse than yours i`m a 42 year old man and i`m now getting really frightened.i bet there is nothing encouraging you`ll can say to me?
@stevensmith288 Don't worry!. I have had this since 1995. It's sore sometimes and horrible to look at. But it won't kill you!. And anyone who slates you or hates you just because you have a sore leg is not worth knowing any ways. I found out the reason for my legs, it's due to my circulation. There is nothing they can do for me, the infection caused the damage and it simply will never heal due to my circulation. But my friend, there is more serious things in life!... Be strong and smile! :)
@stevensmith288 Oops! not 1995, 2005! 6 years now. Everyone is a different case and the Doctors need to work out the root of the problem. So just because my leg won't heal, doesn't mean the same for you. Keep it clean, use your ointment (Epaderm is very good) keep the skin from drying and see what the Doctors can figure out.
I know exactly how you feel when you talk about the cronic & constant pain caused by the Ulcer ............. I wish you a speedy recovery Kind regards, Aaron
Hello dear, Why do you have an ulcer in the first place do you know? 1st may I recommend you locate some slippery elm bark powdered usually on line, mix it up with a little water and put it on the area. Slippery elm past will harden into a "plaster" and needs not to be changed it will take care of itself is antiseptic and will feed the area bringing it back to life and filling in the ulcerated area. Slippery elm poultice has filled ulcers in on hips from bed sores as deep as the bone.
I know what your going through.....have it on both legs....skin has peeled badly and is real bad right now. Drs. just put me on Levaquin......was on an antifungal at first since thats what my one Dr. thought it was.
it in a Ace type bandage ( not too tight ) with gauze treated with Silver Oxide and calamine lotion mixed to a paste. Leave on for about a week then change after a washing (not too hard) I hope this helps.
Hello Jason I know exactly what you are and have gone through.I am into the 5th month of venous leg ulcers which have multiplied now to both legs and keep getting infected. Luckily the right leg is off the two layered compression bandage and onto stockinett, the left leg is getting there. Roger
Hello Jason, thank you for posting this video about your leg ulcer. I logged on to see if I could pick up any information because I thought (and now know) that my Mum has a leg ulcer too. Thanks to you I know exactly what medication to ask the doc for and also how to help her dress and treat it. Once again, thank you xx Susanna
This will put a white stocking with 10mmHg compression and also a Beige stocking with 30mmHg though you might not need the 30mmHg one. The white stocking makes it easy to pull the compression stockings on, it can be very hard to get them over the foot and heels as they are tight down there. I have been wearing all this for about 2 weeks now and already there is a big improvement, the ulcer is healing well. And the dry skin will heal in time with daily use of Emulsifying ointment. It takes time.
But you have to keep wearing them, only take them off when you are sleeping, after you shower in the morning, put them back on. The longer you wear them the quicker it will heal. So don't give up, I know myself had this 3 years going on 4, Most of the time it's down to your circulation so you really need these stockings. They make your legs feel strange at first, like a cooling sensation because of the compression but it doesn't last long, maybe a day or 2.
As for the ulcer pain, yes its bloody sore! People scream when they get a little mouth ucler which are painful, but yes, having a big one on your leg isn't very nice. It gives a pain sensation right though most of your upper leg sometimes like having an electric shock it can shoot right through you!. I understand. So please ask the Doctor for the Activa Acti Form Cool gel dressings, they do work, and take your pain away. I have more video here, will upload more soon!. All the best and take care
PS> You should also ask for a Doppler Ultra Sound, they will use a little Doppler on your leg and feet, you will be able to hear your heartbeat through the speaker. In most cases the level is lower around the heels and ankles where the circulation is bad. This is why the compression stockings are most tight around that area. Try see a leg ulcer clinic, i found that NHS hospitals are too busy to give you the time needed to help you, best to see some special clinic or go to BUPA if you can.
I was just thinking more, you said you use Aquacel, sometimes it won't work too well on dry wounds or if there is scabbing. If you do have scabbing, try get it off by using Granuflex Hydrocolloid dressing, it's an old way to remove scabs, keep it on the ulcer for a few days, then remove, the scab should come off with the Hydrocolloid dressing then try the Aquacel again over the exposed ulcer. Just a thought, check with your Doctor though.
thanx for theinfo,i have a leg ulcer just like yours, had it about 4 months and my skin around the ulcer is also very dry like yours,
recent swab showed infection so back on flucloxacillin,i cant have any iodine products on my skin as i have an allergy, were using auqacel and biatiane dressings,my ulcer seems to be getting worse and the stinging pain is awful,i dont know wot they can do next, any advice is welcome, thanks again lad for your vid, take care.. martin (liverpool)
Martin, If you can't use iodine, try Activa ActiFormCool. It's quite expensive, about £26 for 5 gel pads, the Doctor will give you them on prescription though, so you only pay for the NHS price of that. They are really good, keeps the pain away and seals the ulcer, they take in water when there is too much, and when too little they release it. The dressings are big and can be cut to size, each patch will last for many weeks. ask for 10x10cm pack.
You also probably need a dry dressing to cover that the gel pad. Go for Allevyn Lite 10x10cm, they are non-adhesive. Then you should really be measured by a Nurse for compression stockings, they will be made to measure for you in 72 hours, Altiform do this, once you are measured and you get the prescription form your Doctor just take the Altiform order to the pharmacy and they fax it through. You will probably also get Activa 40mmHg Hosiery Kit which you wear under your compression stockings.
Hello Jason, thanks for the info, ive got an appointment today with the ulcer nurse so i will take this will me,hope your doing well, and, thanks again,i will let you know how things go, Cheers.
