  • I look at this and think it was before its time, does not sound like 1989, more mid 90's, think this hit was inspiration for many of the dance hits for the following few years. Great rhythm to it.

would love to have seen this at 7.30 on thursday evening in 1989, even the look of the dancer is is before its time, great music

  • Like if you're still listening to this in 2012 :) <3

  • Martha Walsh was the vocalist for all the Black Box songs. This gal lip synced them.

  • Great song, Great miming LOL,

  • Why she doesn't singby her own!?!? I know its a great song but I've been tryng to find a concert where she sings by her own, specially the "ride on time" part. I suppose ther should be one video where she does

  • Shes beautifull thanks for the upload

  • I miss you black box, remind me good times

  • this woman didnt sing a note on this song

  • It's TOTP. Of course they were miming

  • Looks ridiculous coming out of her! Credit where credit is due. I dont believe WE are that shallow that we would not have known how GREAT this song and artist was when we heard it unless she was in a prettier package. Come on people, this is a VOICE that COMMANDED attention no matter what she would have looked like. RIP I will miss you

  • LIP SYNCING HEFFA!!!

  • Does any1 know the name of the song where they say "Oww"?

  • @yoyoyoy500

    Ride on Time

  • LOVE HEATHER THE BEST

  • GREAT PERFORMANCE

  • omg omg omg omg zij is lekker zeg

  • OMG! Knowing she was just miming to the song she sure did make this song visually awesome but still.... Loleatta Holloway's voice rOcks! Thanks for posting this :-) it was a nice trip down memory lane xx Loleatta we love ya baby!

  • Playback best !!!!

  • mightyquinn57, that is the best description of any video i've seen on youtube....my old dad nearly rolled of the couch watching this..quickly followed by me and my brother in fits of laughter at his reaction to this at 7.30 on a thursday evening. still makes me chuckle 20 years on.

  • @dadof4lads, that's very nice for you to say so. Thank you for that. Best regards.

  • The girl had little to do with the making of this track.

  • no....the vocals are Martha Wash....get 'google' in your life next time before you say something else stupid.

  • @michaellangston53 No this version was Loletta Holloway they had to change the track after a court case and got Martha Wash to sing the sampled bits.

  • lip-synched or not, the girl is really hot *-*

  • It's pretty easy to realize this is lip-synched when you notice that 1) it sounds EXACTLY like the CD track, and 2) Miss Quinol sings Ride on Time, and ALL the rest of the BB hits, which are a completely different voice. Also, how often do you hear a voice like this come out of a skinny waif of a woman? This is a big girl's voice. Imagine how you'd feel if you worked hard recording all this music in a studio for a 'demo' and it later showed up on TV being lip synched? Just like theft.

  • That girl/man didn't actually sing on the record, she was just put there cos he/she looked good on camera. Great track though!

  • @Feisty1967

    shut

  • such a powerful voice! xx

  • Its the same history as Technotronic`s Felly.

  • Great and accurate info, and this was a great song back then...my 20s were awesome!

  • For some reason i know that this was number 1 on my first day at school lol!!

  • this was song of 80's in the 21 club on delear st dublin

  • first time I first figured out that samplers were used in music, I was 9 and was thinking wtf she isnt singing that live!? lol

  • I remember this bollox ha ha. I miss the kind of music.

  • just heard this on the Radio - and thought back to when this aired originally in 1989 (20+ years ago) and sought it out on here !

    Very memorable :0

  • I was an "underground" dance music man, good tune, but watching her mime sampling was just another reminder of how mainstream music was desperately trying to catch up with the swelling underground dance music movement, the "pops" still were just for the mainstream and music split up under the surface, by 91 dance music was infected with this mainstream banality and dance music changed, good stuff but some really bad, hardcore (some good) but gloves whistles & gas-masks? chav-music was born.

  • See all the Official Black Box videos on the BlackBoxHouse Channel

  • Actually, Ride on Time vocals are by Loleatta Holloway.

  • @esoniq we all do know that actually...but man...what a great music band BLACK BOX was then..!

  • @esoniq Actually.. Martha Wash, is the main vocalist. Loleatta Holloway was sampled quite heavily in this track.... And the feMALE lip sync ( dare i say singer) that is used in the vids and we see on here is actually a transvestite...

  • I don't know why you felt the need to say all that?!

At what point was I being disrespectful to Martha Wash?!!!

  • Someone commented me and said the lead singer was a bloke. I thought she was female and her name was Catherine Quinol

  • mighty dad will be proud i danced my ass of to this first time ive seen the vid

  • RAAD ON TAMM

  • Fantastic, thanks for posting. I remember my dad banging on aboot how gorgeous she was on totp way back then

  • you can let your dad know that she is actually a he

  • Martha Wash did later BB productions. It was soon realized that the single "Ride on Time" had a sampled the voice of singer Loleatta Holloway from the "Love Sensation" single she made with Dan Hartman in the late 70s. Martha re-did-it later.

    ZER07

  • Martha Wash never recorded this song. She did the vocals for the remainder of the songs on BB's Dreamland album.

The vocals on the alternative version of Ride On Time was by Heather Small.

  • @Jizzz....I never said that! I said, 'MW did LATER BB productions. H. Small did only a U.K. mix of this cut. It was seen, back then in '89, as a cover song of the original.

  • When you stated "Martha re-did-it later" it reads as though you were talking about "Ride On Time"

    :o)

  • Loleta Holloway is awesome. Its obvious que ella(mili vanili) no tiene los pulmones (lungs) to sing this tune.

  • what a singer!!!!! que voz tiene esta mujer!!!!

  • she is great and she is not a transexual you guys can check on wiki she is from guadeloupe a french island, she was a top model and because she is beautiful ( look this body perfect) the black box i mean the group take her to do like she is singing on the majority of song wich are originaly sing by martha, yes she is not a singer but she is not guy plzz!!!! before stuff like that go first on real source oh gosh!!

  • katrin quinol, seriously gorgeous,

  • and shes raad on taam

  • she's not a transexual you gorp!!!!

  • WWhooooohahahahahahahahaha LOL

    "you gorp!!!" WWAAHAHAHAHA.

  • "she" is a transexual model from france watch the usa verion of everybody everybody u can see the scar under her addams apple fact x shes bril though

  • piss off boneym22 you retard!

  • Did technotronic perform pump up the jam on totp?

  • I saw a comment somewhere saying she was really a man. Is there any basis for that?

  • who is the real singer of this song?

  • Loelatta hollaway

  • Yes, I'm also confused. 'Who is the real singer of this song, and who is the person performing it on Totp? Please somebody clarify.

  • @UKSazzy67 She is a model called Katrin Quinol. She mimed as the guys could not pretend it was them singing, they had sampled this vocal from Loletta Holloway's Love Sensation! So they brought in Katrin to mime when the single was released. It charted at about no. 30 then rose to 11, then 3, 2 and then hit no.1, which was a very fast chart rise in 1989!

  • @UKSazzy67 The woman on TOTP is Katrin Quinol, she is miming to Loletta Holloway's voice, it is a sample from LOVE SENSATION. Loletta Holloway sang Love Sensation with Dan Hartman in 1979/1980. Blackbox (the 2 men at the keyboard were djs and found an acapella recording of her singing) made this Ride on Time from it and had to find a woman to mime to it, as they couldn't & they didn't who the real singer was!

  • fyi: the "woahs" are jennifer holliday's (from "no frills love"), and of course the rest is loleatta holloway from "love sensation" (which mark wahlberg later sampled in his marky mark days)

  • She's absolutely gorgeous, even though she can't sing!! lol

  • You're right she is way overdoing her singing

  • oh yeah!

  • I love this song but she's mimeing there, everyone did mime in the 80's lol this song wuld b 2 hard to sing live

  • Un Saludo a todos los que delirabamos con BlackBox en *La Fabrica-Disco-Temperley-Argentina*...(!!!)

  • is isn't her voice

  • Has anybody noticed that this video keeps disappearing on YouTube?

    -Japanizzle35

  • I'm not surprised it must be her voice!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Saludos.

  • Best Dance Tune Ever!

  • Lovely girl, but not very good at lip-synching..... Shame for Martha and Loleata to have their wonderful voices ripped off. But GOD!! I still LOVE this song!!

  • She's a He.

  • She's still beautiful.

  • Katrin's not a transsexual.

  • oh god i remeber watching this on tv in manchester, the same show, the same song it was beautiful.

    a great song

thanx a million for adding it

  • the MxedUp albun: a real treasure :) Black Box and the Dance Music will play forever.

  • Yes, she is lipsyncing. THat is actually the great and divine Martha Wash...she sued for royalties and won.

Damn, music was fun in 1989.

  • Sorry dc builder your think of ever other song except ride on time witch was song by loetta hollaway

    ;)

  • Oops, you are right...I think I knew that and clearly the voice is VERY different. So, is that Loetta on stage in this video (lipsyncing or otherwise?)

  • no the girl you see on stage (the image of black box ) was katrin Quniol (catherine)

  • that was SO not Martha. that was Loleatta Holloway. search around for "Love Sensation".

even though she doesn't sing it, she was essential for Black Box's success.

  • I cant beleive this bs. Shes lip singing the whole frickin song.

  • Top Of ThE Pops 1989 - This is Uk television music show BBC

  • Black box - Ride on time - Top Of The Pops 1989 - chart position number 1

  • Q energía y vitalidad transmitía esa chica, se me pone la carne de gallina y me recorre adrenalina por las venas..

  • grandi black noi italiani siamo sempre al top nella disco.........

  • top song, top video, love this a lot thank you very much for it....

  • i'm glad people today really get it: Loleatta's vocals are awesome and beef up the song completely but Katrin's looks are part of this song's magic just as much. Black Box would have never happened with any of the two!

  • @jonasmjr I don't know....the track was awesome at the time. The fact that the singer was hot didn't get it to number 1.

  • So this was the original, the BEST - Am I right that the singer was Loleatta? Whew what a performance, wish she would do this right in front of me, I WOULD GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loleatta's vocals with Katrin's looks. Talk about the best of both worlds.

  • THE NERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i remember watching this perfomance at the time and i was only 5 lol

  • i was 5 also :D 22 now... getting old! this, Inner City - Big Fun and Inner City - Good Life, are my fave songs/tunes EVER!!!!!!! i could die happy right now!! :D

  • one of the best dance tunes ever

    absolute anthem

  • Katrin U Rule

  • What is better, models that can't sing such as nowadays or models backed by real singers such as in the earlier 90's?

  • Good comparison :) I choose the second variant :)

  • Loleatta Holloway on Vocals! This was a model!!!

  • increible cancion!(amazing song)
