so technicly it is a handheld, due to the fact that you hold the system in your hands while playing, but it technicly isn't a portable, with the lack of a battery powerscorce or a screen.
Whaaa??? The Nomad has good screen quality? Are you high? I got that thing for my birthday and it was such a piece. The screen was backlit but you couldn't even read the startup text on most genesis games. Such crap
I got a Nomad with a few games, a power pack, a wall charger, and a 12 DC car charger for like $45 on eBay. I had to snipe it because it was a bid only item. There were like 30 bids on it.
you said you don't know what the mode button on the mega jet was for, what was it for on genesis 6 button controllers? i never got anything out of pushing that button on my old games
some games didnt work correctly with the 6 button controller, so holding down mode button when turning the system on disabled the 6 buttons and made it act like a 3 button pad.
The Mega Drive and Genesis are the exact same system, there is no difference other than it was called the Genesis in North America. So whatever compatibility issues you're talking about are non-existent because they're the same system. The only issues I could see would be formats because what's over in Europe and Asia is totally different from North America. I believe we are NTSC and it's PAL over in Europe and Asia.
@TwistedSpeech There is one tiny difference. Each region has its own region code inside the system. This code is controlled by a set of jumper connections. If you mod these jumpers to have a switch you can change between U.S, Jap, and PAL. Pal mode underclocks the cpu so games will run at 50fps. While the other modes are just there for region locking or in-game language defaults. Some games have region lock while most don't. Some also need PAL mode while others can run on all region settings.
just an fyi i believe the mode button is similar to certain controllers which sets it to 6 button or 3 button mode, some games do NOT work well with a 6 button controller and vice versa. at least i think thats what the mode button does, as i have seen it on controllers before and that is what teh mode button did ;)
When you fly JAL today, you`ll Notice That it has IFE w/c includes Games Since This Thing No Longer exist Today Since they Are Now Using Handsets as controllers!
Dude you do great reviews of the games systems you have but ,you don't have enough game play of the system you have , Yes i know that it would take a lot of time to do but , i seen some pretty rare game system video you but like this i would like to see this in action ya know ?
FYI the "Mode" button was used with some really early Genesis/MD games that wouldn't work right with the 6-button controller. @gamerguy425 go find a playstation 1......tada!!! theres your failed attempt at a snes cd based game. if you didnt know that.. if i remember right nintendo dropped the idea and sony went ahead with the plans and made it into a stand alone console......and the war began.......
@Ryio5 no its just a certain style some of the genesis carts had. i got a couple. NHL hockey 98 looked that way if i remember right. BTW genesis = megadrive..... different regions had different names but it is the same damn thing. something to do with licensing issues so the name was changed to genesis in america or some shit.
it,s just insanely stupid that sega never dit had released the nomad in europe, yes i know it has alot of issues,it was very expansive, and it dit,nt sold well as sega wanted but common sega, why they dit,nt atleast had try it,maybe it would,ve been better sold ineurope rather then in america, they never know.
cuzz the nomad still looks hotter then hot,but sure the megayet was worthless, unless you had no room in your house!!
the sega megayet was actualy only designed for airplanes but for some reasons it was also availeble for consummers but duo it,s lack of having a color lcd screen builtin,it becomes obsolete.
now if a companny could design a color lcd screen to fit on it, it would do bring justice.

@rescuehero942 Japan and the US/Canada are all NTSC. I have a Famicom and it plays on my American TV. Also, they use the same power supplies, too, at 100-120V so you can play a Japanese system here without a hitch.

DUde, very nice find. I was wondering if the sega 32x was able to play megadrive games because of the wider cartridge input on the 32x. Just wondering.
Thanks for the review. I have to say that your the first person to review this rare collectors item. But personally i prefer the Sega Nomad since the mega jet didn't have a screen. Does that mean now that you own every sega mega drive/genesis consoles in your collection?
Actually there are a few versions that I need in order to complete the family. There's a rare Aiwa radio that was released in Japan that can play MD games, and there is computer also released in Japan called the TeraDrive that can play MD games. I'm getting close though. =)
That's why I collect American consoles. I can say I have complete hardware collections a lot easier. :D I'm close to having all the American Sega made hardware. Just missing the Nomad, Model 2 SMS and Model 3 Genesis.
It's for games that do not respond well to the 6 button pad. There are certain games on genesis that if you use a 6 button pad on them they do not respond correctly or they start flipping out. So what you would do to solve this if before starting up the genesis you would hold down the mode button and it would put the controller in 3 button mode.
I haven't seen all your videos, but i would like to see a review on the sega 32x cd.

The MODE button is used to switch the controller between 3 and 6 button modes. The same button appears on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive 6-button controller.
