In the rain, the CG rex was shinier than the animatronic. And the CG rex has a squarer jaw than the animatronic. I've always noticed this, even as a kid.
@InsightCinema ILM didn't do the documentary, Leslie Iwerks Productions did. Your arrogance blinds you... that raptor was rigged for go-motion, hence the jerky movement, plus it still has the stop motion rig behind it, you can see it, it's a stick holding the raptor up. How can you watch those gallimimus bones run so smoothly and watch that raptor move so terribly and just accept that the documentary is 100% accurate.
@alecton I almost sure about that....just almost. Why? Because i never saw that test in any jurassic park documentary before. I'm totally aware of Phil Tippett's work on this film and how his experience helped animators in the creation of natural movement in all CGI dinosaurs; however, it is not so crazy think that the 2º velocirator could have been made using CGI, or at least go motion with digital motion blur.
I'm sure alecton is right. Second was go motion. Looked pretty good too.
It's crazy how after all this time the CG t-rex still looks as good and convincing as anything. The other CG sequences don't quite hold up though, and the robots less so. Still the entire package is a FX landmark without question.
Lucas saw the means to rapping STAR WARS from its original entity and milking us dry. The film should remain as it was filmed why else was all three honoured with academy awards? Makes no sense to tamper with it if it isn’t broken. The CGI is an excuse.
@dano555666 agree, its sad but thats hollywood for you

The Trex to this day still looks better than 90 percent of the CG animals that have come out in the last 10 years.
If you know anything about hardware and software and how much better it's become, this is really sad.
The trex in the rain, chasing the guy to the toilet is absolutely perfect. Not a single part looks out of place.

That second raptor was not CGI, it was go-motion, difference is: Stop motion shows no motion blur, go-motion emulates motion blur.
