thanks for the vid-does the cable come with the housing on it, or is it like wen you buy a bicycle cable and all you get is the cable (housing is the black cable around the wire cable)
@assman12354 Yes, the cable comes with the housing, unlike most bike cables. These clutch cable have both ends one them, which would be hard for the average consumer to make.
Thanks for filling in the gaps .I'm very mechanical, but have never done a clutch cable before. One good tip i might add is to hang the cable before install & soak it with liquid graphite lube overnight. Then hang it from other end & do it again. This Will extend the cable's life & make it pull very smooth. Nothing worse than a rusty cable seizing in the sleeve...
I have a Honda hornet 600; my cable has just broke. like you say days to wait for the new one, not being a mechanic this video has given me a good idea how to replace my cable. Iam hoping i dont have to remove my tank to do this. But thank very much for the video. it has saved me a bill for Honda services.
Everytime I break/wreck something on my KLR, you have a video showing how to fix it. I appreciate the time you take to do these. I'm not very mechanical, but I'm getting there with this bike, and your help!! THANKS!!
great video, but you left out the portion I need - adjusting the clutch cable tension. Yes, I'm a noob, and no I don't have a manual (can't afford it at the moment.)
Hello guys!!So here's the story I was doing some light trail riding and took a break with my buddy, I started it back up after about 2 hours of it sitting. And pulled the clutch and heard a horrid grinding sound?? After about ten minutes of riding, I could hear a nasty metal on metal crunching sound coming from the engine. This morning I tried to pull in the clutch and it's rock hard....any ideas?? Also is your clutch supposed to bounce up and down where it goes into the engine?? Thanks guys!!
Ha! Broke my clutch cable last night, and just watched your coolant video. I thought "no way in hell this guy has done a clutch cable also"... but sure enough, you did. Now the wait begins for a clutch cable to come in...
Great vids. This will help in my decision as to what I am going to buy. Also, If you are burdened by CRS such as I am, You can always tie a string to one end and as you pull the old cable out, the string will mark the path for you. Also, you can use that string to help pull the new cable back through.
Just a tip, if youve got a digital camera just take photos of where the cable goes. This makes it easy to refer back to in order to put it back correctly. I reckon theyre really handy for and of these jobs, expecially the more tricky ones where you end up with 40 bits and peaces lying around.
My clutch cable went in the middle of rural ireland a few weeks ago (during the christmas period) so had to wait 3 hours to be recovered.... Still waiting on the new one to come grrr.
hey bud just got back from the shop with my new clutch cable...same thing happened to my '01 ZX6R last week...frayed at the handle.
Gonna be replacing the cable tomorrow and this has helped a lot. I think the one tip that people gave me that you didn't mention is that you can unhook the old one, then tie the new one to the old one and pull it into position instead of memorizing the path of the original. Might not be possible on a lot of bikes but if it is I'm sure it would save a bit of time.
Thanks bud. Exactly why I love youtube.

What kind of header pipe is that?
ctb619 3 weeks ago
@ctb619 It came with the Big Gun exhaust I had on there. The chrome piece was to prevent burning through my pant legs... :-/
I've since switched back to stock exhaust due to noise.
