great movie i think it should have won for best screenplay and best director. tony gilroy is great and the editing done by his brother john gilroy is superb. tom wilkinson should have won for best supporting and clooney should have won for best actor. i think tilda swinton won for best supporting. its just a great movie on my top 5 list.
@brickbusterful Glad to see you have grown up a bit. I never thought this movie was boring when it first came out but I did not understand it. I've since seen it and I think it is George Clooney's best acting role today. The stress and pressure of covering up a scandel within your company, that same feeling dealing with a corporation that only has greed on their mind, etc. The shocking thing is seeing Clayton not go postal. Michael Clayton has intelligent dialogue, intensity, and is a great film
Can't remember how many cast members were nominated for an Oscar, but Tilda's win was well-deserved. Amazing actress-leaves me breathless. Wilkinson and Clooney were outstanding as well...
Clooney was nominated and I was stunned he didn't win. He did a great job in this film. He was a guy who had been able to adjust the truth his whole life and now he is dealing with what appears to be the biggest cover up of his career. Clooney is more than just a good looking romantic lead and this movie is a perfect example of that.
@RealTime88 yes clooney was great. the writer and director to this movie (tony Gilroy) didnt win any oscars but he shouldve. it wasnt nominated for best editing but it should have been. the editing was done by gilroy's brother john gilroy. all the actors shouldve won for their roles, tony gilroy should of won for writing and directing, john shouldve won for editing, and it shuda won for best picture.
I don't know why lot of people didn't like this movie?...This is one of the best movies I have ever seen...the background score...is just breathtaking.....the colour of the movie,.......just perfect....can't get any better......I loved it I saw it like 7 times in last 10 dayz........z.............N George Clooney....should have got an Oscar for this.........Again...my opinion......Thankx....
Had Michael Clayton been even slightly successful in bringing down Britain's largest crime family then I'm sure he'd of checked his rear-view mirrors at least once during the entire film... unlike Henri Paul.
yea same here i watched it last night , its about this guy micheal clayton(george clooney) who works for a attorney firm and he deals with some lawsuit , thats all i know lol
In my opinion Tom Wilkinson is one of the greatest actors of all time! I don't think the academy watched the whole movie cause I think george should have won best actor tom should have won best supporting actor and it should have won best picture but just my opinion.
yep. crash was so cheeseball i was squirming in my seat. unsurprising, though, that crash is what hollywood types take as "truthful, moving ethnographic study." so dumb!
Good movie, but at times I found myself a little bored. That just might've been my ADD kicking in though, haha. All together I enjoyed it, but it's not one of my favoritest. Although Clooney was a damn good actor, I haven't seen him cast a role like this in a while so i'll give him kudos for that.
umm. No Country for old Men won the oscar for best picture. unless you mean a different award Micahel Clayton was not in the league of the films that were nominated, but to be fare neither was juno and atonement. A good movie but not a oscar contender. hey, look at citizen kane that didn't win best picture and it's considered a masterpiece, the greatest movie ever made. so one day maybe you:ll be laughing at us. oh and there will be blood was fantastic so i'll get you for that.
a mistake was win fucking Crash won best picture or when the goddamn English Patient won over Fargo. There Will Be Blood is amazing. Go P.T. Anderson.
Everyone enjoyed that line though help me with this. How could Swintons character hire henchmen and guilt so much at the end tell me what I am missing?
i got lost in this movie from beginning to end. possibly because i don't know much about business and government issues (i'm 15), but i love thriller and critical thinking movies... this one wasn't one of the best for me
basically, think of it in real life, notice the milk labels in your milk containers say "no rBST rBGH hormone added", Canadian Health Ministry found that these hormones cause cancer, esp breast cancer to women. We have "Monsanto" in real life that produces these hormones 4cow farmers so they can get more milk at a faster rate at the expense of gettin cancer, pretend that Tilda Swinton is part of the monsanto company,& she hires a killer 4the lawyer that found other health dangers in their products
I tried REALLY hard to like this movie.. After hearing nothing but good things, this movie really let me down. I may give it another chance sometime, but not anytime soon.
If you are an insomniac you'll love this movie. You will never get the two hours of your life back. This movie is an adult lullaby. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!
Here's whatcha do... rent a little TV/DVD combo - they're cheap. Put in a disc of "Terminator 3" or Bad Boys 2" or "Die Hard 4" or something like that. Every time you need an explosion or vehicle pileup to keep you awake, just switch on the volume for that movie. Simple! Even you might be able to do it.
no country and there will be blood were mad movies. clayton is a corporate law firm horse shit. now dont get me wrong movie is written very tight and smart I just didnt like the setting or any of the charachters
Was a satisfying movie. I love the look on Tilda Swinton's face when she goes "you don't want the money?" and Clayton takes her picture with a cellphone right after she was caught on "tape" accepting a blackmail deal.
I'll admit the pace is ponderously slow...but mysterious at that. I watched the ending 3x just to see the climax again. Sweet payoff. Not as great as "The Game" but damn good.
dude you are really lame...first of all its not even a thriller. It is a amazing film that would go under the genre of drama. And who said the ending was going to me a twist numbnuts, well sorry it isn't SAW or Sixth Sense...

I just saw this Movie and i think it isn't good at all. Good Cast, but the story isn't anything special and the Film has much too much Dialogs or Scenes they could have left out.
Vantage point, I saw 2 days ago, i liked much more.
the only reason you like this and not vantage point is because you dont wanna be challenged as viewer. vantage point is a cheezy, predictable piece of crap.
clayton is a smart thriller that actually involves some thinking. you should watch this again
Vantage Point is a movie for idiots like yourself, and it's terrible nothing more than a gimmic of a plot. Rotten tomatoes gave Vantage Point 36 compared to a 90 for Michael Clayton.
It's stupid that i took vantage point as an example, because I don't think the movie is that great.I just wanted to point out, that it's even worse than vantage point. And you kind of right, that vantage point is more the "for idiots"-type of movie. But Michael Clayton isn't that "intelligent" as everyone says. The Plot is quite simple. And everybody here is proud, that they understood the very complex story.I knew what will happen from nearly the beginning. So that's why i wasn't impressed by it.
i saw this movie before any of the other nominations for best picture, and long after i have seen the others i still feel this one was the most complete of any nomination. Don't get me wrong, TWBB and No Country were both very good as well but this should have won.
are you joking me? the beautiful cinematography/acting/study of human behavior/entire atmosphere of TWBB or the near flawless ensemble cast and story telling/symbolism of No country VS. a movie that involves someone being "wired" to trick the antagonist and very obscure references to a book that i don't even remember the title of... this movie wasn't terrible, but nowhere on the caliber of the two movies you mentioned
But well. I still can see why peopole wouldn't like that movie. Most movies today are fast paced and loud and..well. Fast. More quite movies with alot of talking, which require a certain amount of concentration, are often claimed boring. Intelligent movies are those, who are not predictable from the very first minute (like most). And even then, Michael Clayton wasn't really hard to follow. If you paid attention, the story became obvious. (but in a good way)
I loved that movie. It was intelligent and well paced. Ok i agree, some scenes seemed to dragon on forever and maybe it could have been done a bit faster. BUT, what i really liked about the movie was the tension that was build up until the end. I also liked the characters. They were portraied quite real. Even that ice cold bitch had issues with all the things she ordered. After all it's not that easy to kill a person. Even the "killers" seemed to have trouble from time to time. A good movie.
this movie doesn't amount to Atonement or No Country, and i'd be willing to say There Will Be Blood but haven't seen it yet... i think they just needed to put up a movie in the nominations that had good actors, because 2007 didn't have a surplus of amazing pictures... does anyone agree 07' released more parody/terrible comedies than any other previous year? i swear this year made it easy for the great movies to standout because of the amount of crap that came out
Did anybody buy the Michael Clayton DVD and watch the movie with Tony Gilroy's commentary? He makes a HUGE error in it. In the commentary Gilroy talks about the scene at the bar after Arthur dies when Clooney goes to see Pollack. Gilroy says that after this scene, Pollack goes back to the office and the opening late night office scene at the begenning takes place, BUT in actuality, that scene does not happen til the next night in the movie. HUGE screw up by Gilroy. And this is on the DVD!!
What the hell are you talking about??? I'm just saying that it is very odd that the director of a movie would make such a huge mistake like that on the DVD!! I LOVED Michael Clayton, hence why i bought it! But its just find strange that the actual director did not know what was going on in his own movie as he watched it!!
yesterday i watched this at Arclight, it was just great film!!! george cloony was so good (of course, everyone was fucking great) that i didn't see george cloony but i saw michael clayton. well deserved to be an oscar nominee. but, then there's Daniel Day-Lewis... this years oscar will be very interesting.
Americans in particular who keep saying "I don't get this film" need to stop watching crap MTV and learn to appreciate smarter thrillers like this one.
Am i got it right - if they partly wanted to give this film an oscar - does this mean that they UNDERSTOOD it? Or it is just usual prosedures - and this film's scheme just match the oscar standarts ?
I'm talking about the fuckin performances and how powerful the other nominees were compared to george. Just because his acting wasn't as impressive doesn't mean I DON'T "UNDERSTAND" the film. Have you UNDERSTAND the ACTING of all the other films?
Umm, KissKara, Michael Clayton and No Country and There Will Be Blood are hardly action movies. They are rather slow dramas with a psychological thrilling aspect. They are hardly "surface" films, as you suggest. On the surface, they seem slow and unorganized. Once you get into them, however, you realize that they are much much much more than that.
Wow, that was a very eloquent, articulate, well thought out response to a point that you supposedly think is meaningless. I guess what this really means is that you're full of shit.
Anyway, a more appropriate line would've been "I am Kali, the goddess of death".
There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Michael Clayton, and what other two? oh, juno and atoment... i watched Juno and i liked it very much but i don't understand how this film can stand those 3 movies. an evil oil man, an very evil assasin, and a janitor VS this little cute prego teen... though this cute prego teen filmed racked $100m... i'll be watching Oscar this time.
Fucking awesome movie. This and No Country for Old Men are amazing. Hopefully these bring about a revolution in Hollywood that leads back to 1970s style filmmaking.
'No Country' is the best, and it won me over from credit to credit.
'Juno' comes in a very, very close second and almost won over 'No Country.'
'Blood' was incredible, but slightly flawed.
'Atonement' was a deeply flawed movie, it was kind of a mess, and I'm quite surprised with the Academy on this one. Then again, 'Crash' won in 2005 when it should have gone to 'Munich.'
...It's obious that you are one of those who appreciates films by their outter appereance; by saying atonment was a mess, you are only demostrating how films whihch express feelings more than action and laughter aren't your kind.

this movie doesn't amount to Atonement or No Country, and i'd be willing to say There Will Be Blood but haven't seen it yet... i think they just needed to put up a movie in the nominations that had good actors, because 2007 didn't have a surplus of amazing pictures... does anyone agree 07' released more parody/terrible comedies than any other previous year? i swear this year made it easy for the great movies to standout because of the amount of crap that came out

GQguy24 4 years ago
yeah im sure all the two people, including you, who even watched the movie with the commentary are going to notice that huge error, my god!!!!

What the hell are you talking about??? I'm just saying that it is very odd that the director of a movie would make such a huge mistake like that on the DVD!! I LOVED Michael Clayton, hence why i bought it! But its just find strange that the actual director did not know what was going on in his own movie as he watched it!!
GQguy24 4 years ago
its not like he edited the movie. it probably wasnt his version.

Americans in particular who keep saying "I don't get this film" need to stop watching crap MTV and learn to appreciate smarter thrillers like this one.
What a great film this is.

maybe it's the morons who comment on youtube and not "americans" in general with whom you take issue. Either way, shut the fuck up.

This was a great film, unfortunate that it's in a loaded field of worthy nominees.
I thought Tom Wilkinson was top-notch in this film, only for his best supporting actor award probably to be snatched by Javier Bardem.

Am i got it right - if they partly wanted to give this film an oscar - does this mean that they UNDERSTOOD it? Or it is just usual prosedures - and this film's scheme just match the oscar standarts ?

but it sounds grate - and for movie, which is originaly a DREAM made on a DREAM FACTROY it is more than OK

have you understand what this film was about ?
nanostake 4 years ago
I'm talking about the fuckin performances and how powerful the other nominees were compared to george. Just because his acting wasn't as impressive doesn't mean I DON'T "UNDERSTAND" the film. Have you UNDERSTAND the ACTING of all the other films?
knightfall023 4 years ago
no frankly i havent watch'em) but i will and i will share my opinion with you than. But still you didnt answer my question

I bow to Micheal Clayton. I am not worthy!

Fucking awesome movie. This and No Country for Old Men are amazing. Hopefully these bring about a revolution in Hollywood that leads back to 1970s style filmmaking.

This is the last Best Picture nom I have to see.
KiernanMooney 4 years ago
...It's obious that you are one of those who appreciates films by their outter appereance; by saying atonment was a mess, you are only demostrating how films whihch express feelings more than action and laughter aren't your kind.

Shiva isn't the "god of death". He's known as the destroyer, as in, a destruction that leads to a reincarnation of life.
You'd think the writers would have spent a second googling the damn thing.
