The first thing I do with all Terrapin X bearings is to wash them with dish detergent and water. Gets out all the machining fragments and oil....fjh123
hey dude i have a yyf popstar and i loved it but the bearing went all weird so i cleand it out but still a few days ago when i would flick the bearing it would spin for 7 seconds but now when i flick the bearing it spins for like 1 second and makes a weird noise why is this
@nathan7grind No I would not recommend using palm oil at all, especially for the first liquid. The first liquid used here is mineral spirits and it is used to clean out all of the oil that was in the bearing originally. Using oil to clean an oil out doesnt make much sense does it?
Use mineral spirits or paint thinner for cleaning, and then a little YYJ thin lube or gun oil for lube afterwards.
should i do 1 needle drop? or 2 also would i need to break the lube in? cause i did this and put 1 drop on a needle and the bearing spins slow and i just got it
You could just stop being a tight arse and buy a new bearing, to save yourself the time and faff. If you can't spare the pennies then I suggest rinsing it out with water before applying the lube. Just so that any leftover degreaser (and there will be some traces left since it wasn't dried properly/adequately) doesn't break down the fresh lube.
@Luuuke Most decent quality bearings are made from stainless steel, so they shouldn't be affected by water. Also, I maybe should have mentioned to dry them out thoroughly to make sure no water is present.
@condowallace Stainless steel bearings can rust too. They're stain-less, not stain-proof. It's just a bad idea to use anything with water on anything that's metal.
@Luuuke Stainless steel rusts in exactly the same way aluminium and titanium, etc. does. The oxidised metal acts as a barrier, because of it's harder properties, and protects the metal from oxidising further. So in other words, in order to protect it's self it must rust. Rusting isn't noticeable in aluminium, etc. because the metal oxide is near enough the same colour as the pure metal.
@condowallace Luuuke is right. If you wanna rinse them, do it in isopropyl alcohol; shake or agitate the bearings in it, but don't leave it in long. It's not for soaking like your solvent or bearing cleaner.
If you blowdry the bearings, wait for them to cool again before you lube.
@koyukionna, Luuuke, Itsmeubeep13. For christ sake, try reading every comment before replying. Yes, as I said before you MUST dry them thoroughly before applying lube. A quick dip in water will do not harm provided they are dried properly. I thought drying any metal after contact with water would have been common sense, but obviously that's not fucking case.
Always use YoYo Jam lube people! Thin for a less responsive YoYo, and Thick lube for more responsive. I got my Dark Magic :] Imma make a tutorial like this when I get my KonCave bearing.
what yo do u have, a problem i had was that i was scared to put pressure on the bearing because i thought it would break, but bearings are durable so dont be afraid to put pressure
well, i just got a new bearing and was able to clean THAT one. Its a dark magic. Its that the C-clips dont stick out very much and i cant get the pin around them to pry them out.
Thanks for the video, Glad to see it done, I was very nervous about taking apart the bearing on my new Superstar. Do you have any recommendations for lube besides the YYJ Thin? I don't know if the brain lube will make it too responsive.
Remington makes some gun oil called RemOil. You can pick it up in the sporting goods section of Walmart for a couple of bucks. It's very thin oil and works basically the same as YYJ thin. It might not be safe on plastic but it'll be fine to use with your Superstar.
Is there anything wrong with the bearing in your Superstar? The bearings in those are usually quite unresponsive and shouldnt need to be cleaned and lubed.
The bearing itself was great out of the box, but the metal was squeaking\grinding against the axle as I screwed and unscrewed it, so I applied a bit of WD40 to it. Some of it must have leaked into the bearing, which made it very responsive, much to my dismay. The bearings are running great and smooth now thanks to you. I may or may not get some lube for it.
If it ruins the bearings a bit sometime down the line because of it, it doesn't seem like they're too expensive to replace.
Even with all the mods I've done for other people, I've been using that same bottle for a few years now. It's getting low but it has lasted forever. Definitely worth the $5 that it costs.
Yomega Brain Lube will work but it's pretty thick and might cause your yoyo to become responsive. If you add the tiniest little bit though, it should be okay.
Normally, bearings with ZZ shield or LLU seals have grease inside. Cleaning bearings in this way will also wash out the grease. I do not think it is a proper way.
The shields will come off, the c-clips holding them on are just a little harder to see and more difficult to remove sometimes. Make sure there's plenty of lighting and use a magnifying glass if you need to.
i tried but mine didnt have c clips. it just had a metal shield that seemed impossible to get off so i stabbed it and ripped it off and now my bearings are screwed.
I can't find the c-clips. I have a metallic missle and they have really small bearings (size E). Can I even take the sides off to get to the bearings?
Nothing will happen if you dont clean it before lubing it. It will still be responsive and if your bearing was not spinning good before (like it was locked up or something), it'll still not spin good after you lube it.
If there's nothing wrong with your bearing and you like the level of response it has, then just leave it alone.
thanx now i have lost the 1 c ring it flicked out i just left the other in im not bothering with it. oh yeah it spins better with only one c ring still going to clean without deshielding it
yea, they come thick lubed, so they spin slower and higher response to prevent rust. lol, just so you know, if you buy a hitman, it will come extremely responsive out of the box, so u have to break down the lube, "breaking the bearing" lol.

Nothing will happen if you dont clean it before lubing it. It will still be responsive and if your bearing was not spinning good before (like it was locked up or something), it'll still not spin good after you lube it.
If there's nothing wrong with your bearing and you like the level of response it has, then just leave it alone.
