  • Well done! Verbal attack on anyone isn't nice, especially domestic, great piece, thought that was the teeth falling out from the verbal attack, but I see that's the body, LOL!, Just what the doctor ordered.

Thanks a Million! keep going CandyAcidReign Loved the Artist notes.

  • always impressive and inspiring watching you work!!!!

  • @OmaviNdoto Thank you Omavi!

  • a very talented person

  • @plobzzz thank you! very kind.

  • Awesome art as always.....You are very creative!

  • Thank you Lez!

  • very nice art!

those teeth look like real pearly whites!

  • @Cre8iveSignWorks Thank you!

  • PS: You picked a catchy song that in many ways has a bassline that complements your body movements as you work! A creative coincidence may be? :)

  • Oh no... music selection is never a coincidence. It's selected during the editing process. This song was one from a list of songs by this band member. We spoke on the phone, and he sent me a link to this particular song "Ambivalence" & other songs after spoke to him about what i was looking for. Told him i want something melodic but upbeat, bass, intricate etc. During the editing I match my footage to the music. It usually all works out rather easily. if not I scrap the song, find another.

  • I'm impressed to learn that Dessa! It shows how much you're not limiting your creativity. Great to to know there's no simple coincidence as such and you value the painting process as much as the final product with accompanying music.

I like how you go into researching the best tune that fits, also how you reach out to the music creators. You have that effective networking trait I like in creative folks :) Keep up the good work!

  • it's incredible right? that she can seem to find the perfect songs to match her body movement and the ambiance of the painting...true artistry at work....

  • @ Jay4457, that's got to be one more thing that make her videos even more interesting. The art work is most def off the hook & I'm becoming more & more drawn into it esp bcoz Dessa has us watching & guessing where she's taking us with each piece, but the extra sauce and gravy in the choice of fitting music definitely makes her work more memorable as we connect sound with art we see come alive right before our eyes!

  • Love this Dessa! Really do and again there's a major detail you bring to your paintings that I never see coming from the start. Didn't know the face would fit in the mouf with the big teef (lol!) . So nicely done.

Hey, your colors are rocking the piece. Very, rich, vivid colors. I'm still trying to interpret this piece and several things run up my mind. Love this!!

  • Thank you akiey. You & I both, regarding the face being inside the mouth. I didn't know until after I completed the face. Each step leads me to my next and I follow my spirit, the emotion / energy running thru me, then attempt to translate it onto the canvas. It truly feels good to know you like this piece. I say this often but, I do it & share it, not knowing if it will be well received. It's awesome when it is felt, and to be honest, it's an awesome feat even when it isn't... oh the audacity!

  • (Cont') I saw that too and it took me to a different place than may have been intended. Having the serpentine tail emerging from this supposed city had me reflecting on society and I saw the duality of it's coloring, RGB for the media nonetheless, and black and white checkerboard, like lies and the games people play with one another, all coming together for consumption. And the look of shock in her eyes, mouth open as if caught by surprise, as many of us are when being devoured whole... So deep.

  • I'm so glad to read your thoughts love. Your perception of the concept is right on point. It's really a GRAT feeling to know that you really get it, appreciate, and like it. Thank you so much for watching when you knew you could focus in on it. That makes me feel really amazing, and I loved reading your comment.

  • What a treat! I am so glad I finally had the time to see this! I've been waiting for the chance to just sit back and focus on this free of distraction and it was worth the wait, mos def. Once again, I am blown away with your skills! This piece (peace) seemed to flow effortless from you and the song - I almost felt as if you were whispering the melody as you painted - it really brought the presentation full circle. I think someone mentioned seeing a city in the background and I must admit, (2BC)

  • Cool Miss Dessa....very surreal...I like the expression on the face...

What was you painting on the canvas before this piece cause I see what I think are buildings?

  • Thank you Q. That was the background. I edited out the footage of me painting the background because it couldn't fit with the length of the music used. No buildings, just used a palette knife for the background, instead of brush strokes only.

  • Oh ok. I was wondering what that was. It's good to see you're painting againg....kinda gets me inspired to go back to painting

  • I was on a business trip that turned into a 2 month vacation in LA. I was requested to donate one of my pieces to Rush Philanthropic and attend a black tie event etc. I'm really glad to hear you feel inspired to paint, because you're too talented not to. ;) About the background, I probably shouldn't say it's not city buildings, but it's definitely not city buildings in a realistic way. I purposely made the background abstract and etc... but everything about the abstractness was done purposely.

  • Amazing painting! Love those eyes :)

  • Thank you. Really glad you found me on here... your artsy video's are a pleasure to see.

  • I greatly enjoyed watching this like I enjoyed watching your other videos. Awesome work once again! I featured this video as "video of the day" on my blog. Keep up the great work!

  • Oooh. Thank you very much. Please send me a link of the blog to my messages.

  • You are truly talented, sis! Love how you pick the perfect music to go along with your pieces.

  • Thank you! it was a pleasure working with the member of this underground band "Drew aka SirThumpAlot". He liked my art, I heard his music, and then we went from there.

  • Verbal Attack, Hmmm.

What's the perspective on this one La?

If you are having a conversation with that mouth, do you see yourself in their words. Are they speaking about you, not knowing that you are inside of them?

Is this one side of a reflection? One side of a conversation? If you created the mouth that was speaking to this mouth, would a heart be inside of it, a question mark, or a dager?

  • kdwtheartist, Interesting questions. The perspective... hmm, it's up to the viewer... but for me, I'd say the mouth is talking about her & not to her, laughing about her, betraying her, and most likely it thinks it's behind her back, but she's aware of it. She clearly feels betrayed, shocked, swallowed up. Who the mouth is speaking to is irrelevant because it's probably someone who doesn't matter to her. In the piece the only relevant things are this verbal betrayal & how she feels.

  • WoWoWoWoW!!!!!!! I love this Painting! And the Video for it! The video editing was AMAZING! love how I could see the eyes then the back of your head at the beat of the music! That's hot! This song is Awesome too! The painting itself has many meanings about verbal attack! The black and White path of the mouth gave meaning to me but it steamed from a color tail! Awesome! The innocence in the eyes of the girl is unbelievable! This is the work of a genius and an iconic artist! Love It Dessa!!!

  • yemanis415, Thank you sis. Really... I'm truly humbled & glad the editing is appreciated, especially because that is definitely the hardest part of this whole thing. I wasn't sure if i did a decent job of it or not until after I got all of these responses. So, I'm grateful. I'm really my worst critic, because I wasn't completely satisfied with it until after it was made public. lol. About her eyes: they had a shift in emotion as I was painting. Started off one way & ended another, just like emo.

  • There was something so cool happening with the eyes that you were painting and your hair!!!!! I like what you said about collaboration with the music that you listen to......I try to do one work of art per day (Its almost always a person). I try to do it the second after I get home from work/school etc. And I usually get inspired reflecting on the day. I then scan the work and turn it in to a PNG file (Like a sticker)...That way, my reflections talk to one another :)

  • wow, every day! That's awesome. I doodle a lot. Some can be found on that fan page I put in the more info section, or on my myspace page. Same name everywhere. I do what I call "fine graphic art", and that can be found on those same links... and I web design, so the PNG is like a best friend.lol. I completely dig how you show that process and combine your work so that you can stay creative daily. keep up that wonderful spirit. It's inspiring.

  • Thank you very much! ...I accepted your friend request & subscribed.

  • Wow! Part painting / part video art! Love the painting, as always, but equally impressed with the camera work and the choreography!

    -Merrill

  • Great! Really glad you enjoyed it! yeah, I look at the video production as another artform or way to compliment the art. Not much choreography, aside for the editing. Most of the time, things kind of just come together. When I sit down to paint, or when I wore an ipod while painting, I had no clue what I would be painting or what band I was going to collab with. It just all seems to come together, kind of like fate. Thankfully so. Very organic... that's the basic necessity of my process.

  • This is bad, Mike Jackson Bad!!!!

  • LOL! silly... Thank You!

This is unrelated to this comment, but I'm encouraging people to read the 'more info' on the upper right hand side, so they can read my artist notes regarding the meaning of this painting beyond it's initial face value.

  • To me, this raises the question, Can talent or creativity be contained, devoured, commodified? I've always loved your use of color.

  • Ooh, very interesting. Your question only leads me to other questions. :) Why would we want to, when it can be found in each of us? The only question is, how do we find it, nurture it with the purity of true love so that it grows? I have the answers to that. Thank you. I love incorporating as much color as possible, while staying true to my current range and the piece.

  • I'm so Feeling this.....Your creativity is so sweet to the soul! Maybe that's why its Candy?

  • Thank you LocLion! I'm so excited to see your comment here! That's actually a part of my description of my alias: "it's the good & sweet, the toxic & pain, the self-empowerment & wisdom gained". :D

  • That looks like something out of a dream I had some time ago. I'm getting a Lewis Carroll vibe from it. Dig it, baby!!!

  • The language of art is spoken through the pearly whites of your brush...

  • Cool as always! And good to see you.

  • im in love with this video.....You or so good.....

  • Wow! Very Moving. You are very good at this. Get your art on! Five stars!

  • *giggles* It feels good to read "you are very good at this"...especially because Inside me lives a little girl who never thought she'd hear that about her art, and therefore just did it for the love of it. So, wow, yeah... this is very cool... thank you a whole bunch.

  • your paintings are vivid and expressive they appear to breathe life and bleed once you've completed the good work. good work.

  • wow..., I'm humbled... thank you so much.

  • Go Ladessa!

  • LOL! :D

  • Love this painting!

    Very cool!

  • Thank you Amanda!

  • I love it! I want it is for sell ? I need a CandyAcidReign piece to add to my collection.

  • Thank You... I know for sure that I'll be offering limited edition giclee prints on canvas of this piece and other originals (by request). The original itself is open for sale, with the others, if the price is right.

  • Love this piece. This concept is hot and the execution flawless. Look at the enamel on those teeth! Lol. And many many props on the video editing. Two thumbs up! 5 stars. 10 out 0f 10 and all that. Great work!

  • lol! Thank you so much for watching & this comment. The video editing for this one took a bit longer than usual because I had to contact a band I wanted to use for the video, and I had so much footage to condense. REALLY glad you dig it!

  • whoa that was hot as hell!

    Great work!!

  • Thanks!!! *BIG SMILE*

  • great painting! love the teeth!

  • Thank you! I'm going to send you a message about the teeth technique.

  • cool! i posted it up on my fb too, people love it! get it sistasoul! :)

  • Awe... that's awesome! Thank YOooU!
