I'm looking for a camera for taking video from my car on a rally: so looked at your HQ2 postings from last year: then saw this. This almost looks better than the HQ2... what do you reckon ? I have an LX2 so am a Panasonic fan: I also have a canon 400D so am familiar with DSLRs and that everything is a trade off of course. lol
Am also wanting to use the camera for skiing: so am also considering bulllet cams... any advice?
If you're doing a rally I would go for a proper sports cam. Rallies could get a bit bumpy and the Pano isnt designed for knocks.
I really like the footage from the ContourHD and the X170 (if its still going) as they are self contained and wideangle (16:9 for ConHD but 4:3 for X170). I think a few guys have made ski vids here with the Contour too
The sound doesn't sound that bad... although we would need speech for stationary to find out, or see how the mic will react at any kind of wind speed.
1:31 - you just filming the cars or waiting to make sure they don't turn? You have no need to wait for them (your right of way) and if they really are going that fast, less likely to turn anyway. :p
I always stop to check on corners as half the drivers around here just carry on regardless. I actually feel much safer on the cycle than as a pedestrian LOL! A couple of times I have been crossing, get most of the way there then Mr Angry comes flying around the corner hammering his brake without signalling.
Have a look at my blog and you'll see a 100% zoomed crop of a pic. For snaps the pics are ok, I've had 5 pics accepted from it for a picture library. Pretty good for a compact
Its no where near a basic dSLR. I think the Lumix TZ cameras. The pics made are pretty close to this, though less control.
None of these are weather or shock proof though so be warned about that. :-)
Just clicked 'follow' on your blog. Bought a dSLR a few weeks back, a Canon 500D. Have little idea how to use it so will hopefully be joining a photography course next month if I can get a place :)
Need to buy a compact as I have a few cycle rides planned this year, including a solo JOGLE in July. I've started a blog myself, nowt on it yet but I'll use it when I start my trips I think.
500D is a great camera. Dead easy to use really. Theres a fair few videos of tutorials on here somewhere. I think Dan Chung (pro guy) might have uploaded a few at one time if memory serves.
Best way to learn is to just keep snapping away. Patterns, shapes, people, buildings, anything. Compacts certainly have their uses and their size makes them very worth having
can you somehow remove the blue streaks?

What are the stills like? I'll be looking to buy a new compact in the next couple of months, this is a bit too expensive for what I want though.
